I would like to acknowledge the staff and volunteers at the International Exotic Animal Sanctuary in Boyd, Texas. They do amazing work to provide a permanent sanctuary for big cats that have been abused, abandoned, neglected, or saved from dangerous situations, and they have been working tirelessly to improve the plight of these magnificent creatures since 1988.

I went to visit IEAS while writing this book, and I was surprised to find a real-life Barnum the Bengal tiger there! Over sixty animals are being cared for in this amazing facility, and the price is high to give them the lives they deserve. If you’re interested in helping, or just finding more information, you can go to www.bigcat.org/how-to-help to see the many ways you can help give a big cat a better life. I also encourage anyone who is near a big cat sanctuary to visit, donate, and take a stroll. There are many across the United States, and all of them need every bit of help they can get.

I will be donating 10% of my earnings from all 2012 sales of Stars & Stripes to IEAS in honor of Ty and Zane, my loyal readers, and Barnum the Bengal tiger and all his brothers and sisters who deserved better than to be born in a cage.

Abigail Roux was born and raised in North Carolina. A past volleyball star who specializes in sarcasm and painful historical accuracy, she currently spends her time coaching high school volleyball and investigating the mysteries of single motherhood. Any spare time is spent living and dying with every Atlanta Braves and Carolina Panthers game of the year.
