God help her, Ash had ruined her. If this thing between them didn’t work out, Maggie didn’t know what she would do. Finally Ash rolled off of Maggie, pulling her so she was tucked into his side.

“Maggie.” Ash spoke her name with the reverence one would reserve for a holy figure.

“Ash.” Maggie’s reply was as full of wonder as his own.

Ash rolled to his side until they were facing each other. He looked into her eyes with the weight of everything they’d been through bald and clear for her to see.

“I love you Ash.” Maggie couldn’t keep it inside. She didn’t know if this was the worst idea any human on the planet had ever had in their entire lives, but Maggie couldn’t keep from saying it. The words were like lava in her belly and if she didn’t release them she would explode.

Ash leaned forward, pressing his lips hard against hers. He pushed his tongue inside her mouth and kissed her with everything he had inside him. And when they were both panting, hearts racing, he finally pulled back.

“I love you too Maggie.” Ash replied.

“You never have to be afraid again. I want you to know. You’re my woman now. I’ll take care of you. The club will take care of you. When you’re feeling better I want to take you to The Hole and introduce you to everyone. I want the world to know you’re mine Maggie. My woman. And I’m your man. I belong to you, body and soul, and nothing will ever tear us apart. And nothing will ever hurt you again.”

Maggie didn’t realize she was crying until Ash reached out and gently wiped the tears from her cheek. “I love you Ash. I can’t tell you how good it feels to be with you. How safe I feel. For the first time in I can’t remember how long I feel safe. I… I think someday I want to know what happened to… what happened with everything last night, but not right now. Jack said it was better if I didn’t know, and I think he’s probably right. I trust him when he says that everything was taken care of. I trust you too, but I want to reserve the right to ask for the details at a later date, when I’m ready.”

Ash nodded his head slowly, taking in her words. “You
can
trust me Maggie, and I’ll agree to that. He’s right that for right now you probably shouldn’t know, but in the future, when things calm down, I agree to tell you anything you want to know.”

Maggie snuggled closer to Ash, pushing her face into his skin to smell him as Ash did the same to her hair.

Chapter 24

ASH

… Three months later

Ash pulled his motorcycle into the clearing at the end of the dirt road and cut the engine. He heard Maggie’s gasp when she saw the overlook for the first time. The clearing was at the edge of the mountain they’d been making their way up for the past forty minutes. It had a really awesome view overlooking the valley below where their town lived.

“My mom used to bring me here when I was a kid. If my step-dad would start drinking early, and we didn’t have money to go anywhere else, she would bring me here. One time we even spent the night in the car.”

Maggie turned to Ash and smiled. She lifted her arms and wrapped them around his neck. “It’s beautiful Ash, thank you for bringing me here.”

Ash bent down to brush his lips across Maggie’s then grabbed her hand and pulled her over to the flat rock at the edge of the overlook. He pulled himself up and settled before reaching a hand out to help Maggie. When she was beside him he wrapped an arm around her and pulled her into his side. Maggie rested her head on Ash’s shoulder and sighed.

“Maggie… I uh… I brought you here for a reason.”

Maggie lifted her head from Ash’s shoulder and looked at him, her eyebrows drawn together in a questioning frown.

“What’s up sweetie?”

Ash looked down at his boots before turning to Maggie. He could feel his gut rolling. Never in his life did he think he’d find himself in this position. In love with a girl like Maggie and asking her to marry him. What if she said no? Ash shook his head to clear that thought. Maggie loved him. If there was anything in this world that Ash could count as a guarantee it was that Maggie loved him.

“Maggie… You know I love you baby… right?”

The smile that broke across her face was stunning. This woman was beyond perfect.

“Of course Ash. I love you too.”

Ash nodded his head, secure in the words that confirmed what he was just thinking. He put his hand in the pocket of his leather cut to grasp the small box. He didn’t pull it out yet, he just sat there looking at Maggie and taking deep breaths.

“I know this is gonna sound kinda crazy, but I don’t think I could live without you Maggie.”

He watched as a mixture of confusion and love filled her eyes.

“Ash what’s this about? You don’t have to live without me. We’re together forever babe. You and me against the world right? Well… You, me, and the club against the world.”

Ash looked down at his boots and nodded.

“That’s what I was hoping you’d say.” He pulled the box out then and held it between them. He laughed a little when he heard Maggie’s gasp. Ash moved until he was kneeling in front of her on the rock.

“I want shit to be official. I mean I know my club knows you’re my girl. I know your friends know I’m your man. I just… I want everyone to know. I want anyone that looks at you to know you’re taken. So I thought you know… let’s make it official.”

Ash held the box out and opened it. Maggie made a small choking sound when she saw the ring. Ash looked at her face and saw she was trying desperately to hold back tears, but they were still spilling from her eyes and running down her cheeks.

“Will you marry me Maggie?”

That’s when Maggie really lost it. Ash watched her face crumple when she looked at him, tears streaming down her face, she nodded yes then between deep breaths spoke.

“Yes Ash. God yes!” Maggie dissolved into a blubbering mess and Ash wrapped his arms around her, holding her tight until she got herself back together. He pulled a bandana from his back pocket and handed it to her so she could wipe her face and blow her nose. Then he pulled the ring from the box.

Ash knew Maggie loved antique jewelry so he spent two months looking for the perfect piece and finally found the white gold ring with a filigree design and a deep blue sapphire. Ash slipped the ring on Maggie’s finger as she wiped away more tears.

When it was done he cupped his left hand behind Maggie’s neck to pull her face to his. Then he leaned forward and kissed her. He put every ounce of love into that kiss. Maggie wrapped her arms around Ash’s back and squeezed tight. This was the moment Ash would remember until his deathbed. The moment Maggie agreed to spend her life with him.

EPILOGUE

PRENTICE

… 6 Months Later

Prentice stretched out his legs and kicked his feet up on the chair across from him. He didn’t always go out for weddings, but this was his Steel Breed brother and best friend… so what could he do? He watched as Ash and Maggie danced their first dance as a married couple. Maggie had been married before to a real piece of shit abusive fuck-head so instead of the traditional white gown she wore a baby blue dress with little yellow and purple flowers all over it. It had those thin straps instead of sleeves, and it fell to just above her knees with one of those poofy skirts underneath in yellow. Maggie definitely looked hot.

One of Maggie’s best traits, in Prentice’s opinion, she wasn’t one of those stupid bitches who tried to change a man as soon as she got her claws in him. Ash was dressed in black jeans, with a white t-shirt, and his leather cut. They’d ridden his Harley to the reception with Maggie on the back, skirts tucked around her waist. Prentice thought they made a good match.

The other benefit of being at this wedding was Jessi Day. Jessi was Maggie’s best friend, maid of honor, and the entertainment for the party. Jessi was one of the hottest women Prentice had ever seen in his life, and had the best voice he’d ever heard. Not only did she have luscious red hair, covered in freckles, with sweet grapefruit tits, but the woman had to be six feet tall. Prentice had never been with a woman that tall. It was lust at first sight.

Prentice normally avoided The Hole, the Steel Breed Motorcycle Club’s hangout, on Monday nights like the plague. He hated mingling with the outsiders that usually came in on Monday’s for open mic night. Fortunately for Prentice about nine months ago he happened to make a special trip to The Hole for Ash and got his first look at Jessi Day. He’d been hooked ever since, and made it his business to be at open mic night when he knew Jessi would be there.

Prentice shifted his eyes to the stage as the song ended and everyone clapped. Jessi stepped back from the mic and turned to talk to the lead guitarist standing next to her. She moved off the stage as the guitarist stepped up and they started a new song. It looked like Jessi was taking a little break.

Prentice’s eyes tracked Jessi as she moved across the dance floor and headed for the bar. She was wearing a skin tight, sleeveless, green dress that hugged her ass and ended about mid-thigh. Prentice let his eyes peruse her legs and imagined them wrapped around his shoulders. When his eyes hit her feet he saw the pumps she was wearing.

“Oh shit.” Prentice thought to himself. Those pumps had to put her at the same height as him. Prentice adjusted his growing hard-on as he swung his legs off the chairs and stood up. He didn’t give a fuck if anyone noticed the massive bulge in his pants. Prentice needed to talk to Jessi. Now…
