Chapter One

Ashley Steele lounged
across her king-sized bed in nothing but a thong-style panty and a bra,
twitching her foot. Her best friend, Rebecca Sue
"Don't-Call-Me-Becky" Davenport stood in the walk-in closet, trying
on the clothes that Ashley didn't want anymore. It was great having a girl of
Ashley's taste and means as her best friend. Her parents hadn't needed to buy
her clothes since the fifth grade.

"Becky,"
Ashley called. Rebecca Sue suppressed her annoyance as she poked her head out
of the closet.

"Yeah?"

"I'm bored."

"So, what's
new?"

"Let's do
something."

"Okay. What?"

"Let's go dancing.
Wanta drive into Denver, grab something to eat and go to a club in LoDo?"

"Sure! Am I
designated driver again?"

"Nah, I'll get a
hotel room for us. We can drive back tomorrow."

"Sounds good. I'll
go home and get my stuff."

"Don't bother,
I've got enough for both of us. See if you can find a couple of tote bags in
there."

"Okay. Which
outfit do you want, so I won't pick it."

With that, Ashley
levered herself off the bed and strolled over to the closet. Flicking through
the section where she kept her clubbing attire, she picked out a hot little
sleeveless pencil dress in black. With sheer chiffon covering a keyhole cutout
that would reveal her cleavage as well as the entire back, it would require
some art to show off her curves to perfection. Fortunately, her boobs were
still firm, thanks to a little help from a cosmetic surgeon who added a cup
size to her natural Bs. Ashley dug through her lingerie drawer until she found
a black backless bra with under wires that would help keep her girls in place.
Digging a little further, she found the double-sided body tape that would hold
it on. A fresh thong, this one sporting red rhinestones in case she wanted to
flash someone, went into the bag along with the bra. Black strappy heels
followed.

Ashley moved over to
her casual rack, giving Rebecca Sue free run of the clubbing outfits. Long
accustomed to dressing as a sort of accessory to Ashley, Rebecca Sue found a
form-fitting electric blue sheath, featuring a scoop neck decorated with an
attached two-strand silver chain. The back dipped, but a normal bra would do.
Rebecca Sue traced Ashley's steps to the lingerie drawer, where she found a
black lace bra and thong set that went into her own bag. Silver heels with
laces to wind up her ankles would go nicely with the dress.

By now, Ashley had
picked out a pair of jeans and a tunic blouse to wear to the hotel and to
dinner. After dinner they would get dressed and made up at the hotel and afterward
decide whether to go to the Beta Nightclub and put up with the under-21 crowd,
or to Howl at the Moon and take a chance on the band. No one showed up anywhere
before 10:30, so they had time to kill, too.

"Are you going to
call Dirk and tell him where to find us?" Rebecca Sue asked.

"I guess so. Want
me to have him bring a friend for you?"

"Duh, of
course."

"Okay."

The girls made a
striking pair. Ashley, a little more blonde than nature intended, with perfect
features, a mouth made for sin and gray eyes. Rebecca Sue, while not a
show-stopper, was nevertheless pretty, with a rounder face than Ashley's, dark
chestnut hair and brown eyes. She was content to play the sidekick role, aware
that living Ashley's dream life with her would not otherwise have been possible.
The only price: that she be okay with leftovers. Hand-me-down clothes, leftover
boys, admiring looks only from men who, realistically, didn't think they could
ever be in the same league as Ashley. Somehow, knowing Ashley's secrets and
what made her who she was made it all so much easier to deal with. Ashley
relied on her best friend for emotional stability, and she gladly provided it,
loving Ashley like a sister.

Both girls scanned the
room for interesting men, but Rebecca Sue spotted him first. His blonde hair
glinted with red highlights whenever the spotlight hit him. A scruff of blond
five’oclock shadow, a body that even his cowboy shirt couldn't obscure, slim
hips in his faded jeans, and the obligatory cowboy boots--he was a hottie. She
stared too long and hard, though. Ashley picked up on her interest.

"Who are you
looking at?"

"That guy over
there at the table just to the right of the bandstand. He's gonna burn this
place down, he's so hot."

"Where. Oh, the
blonde guy?"

"Yeah, that's
him."

Ashley took a longer
look. After a moment, she frowned, and said, "I'll be right back."

She wanted to be sure,
but Ashley could have sworn she had seen this guy before. Walking casually past
his table to get a better view made her certain. She
had
seen him
before, but where? And Becky was right, he was hot. So hot, she'd like to take
that shirt off him to cool him down. But then she was afraid the heat would be
coming from her. She continued to the bar to get drinks for Becky and herself.
As she walked back past the table full of men, someone let out a low wolf
whistle after she passed. Ashley smiled to herself. She was going to claim this
one. Becky would have to pick another.

Rebecca Sue took her
drink with a quick thanks. Ashley remembered her preference, and this was
perfect. A Sex on the Beach. She didn't care what she drank, really, but she
loved it when a bartender or server asked her, 'do you like Sex on the Beach?'
She always answered, 'every chance I get.' It always got a laugh, and the drink
didn't taste bad.

"So what's the
deal, Ashley? Why did you go over there?"

"I wanted to see
him better," said Ashley. "I think I know him. Sorry, Becks, that
one's mine."

Rebecca Sue had known this
would happen, so she had already picked one of the other men at the table. But
she needed to ask, anyway. "What makes this one so special?"

"Well, for one
thing, look at him!" she exclaimed. "I mean, that's too hot for you
to handle, Becks." With a wink that took the sting out of the words, she
mouthed, 'sorry'. "Listen, Becks, I have my reasons. You know that."

Rebecca Sue did, but voiced
it anyway. "Does he work for your dad?"

"Yeah, I think so.
I've seen him before, at Dad's office."

"Lucky man. You're
gonna hit that, I guess?"

"Oh, yeah. Bet on
it."

Rebecca Sue had watched
Ashley following in her mom's footsteps to seduce her dad's employees ever
since it started. But, she understood. Being abandoned by your mom at seven
because your dad threw her out of the house would hurt. A lot. Thank god Ash
gained a step mom who loved her when Wally married Jessica, but it didn't keep
her from blaming him that her mom simply left, without her.

Ashley waited until
after the band came back from break. She didn't want to call attention to
herself yet, since she had checked him out before. Instead, she made her move
on the second song of the set, one that would give an opportunity to toss her
boobs at him a little during the dancing. Ashley walked in a direct line from
her booth to his table, ignoring the men with him. The guy sure did have a lot
of friends, but Rebecca Sue could be counted on to break up any talk after she
and the hot one started dancing. Becky would ask another one to dance, and the
rest would be envious.

"Hi, I'm Ashley.
Would you dance with me?"

The hot guy looked up
at her where she stood beside him, her boobs enticingly close to his shoulder.
My god, the guy had eyes like aqua ice. They regarded her with interest as she
steeled herself to appear cool, not fall into them and drown. She died a little
as he hesitated, but was restored to full diva glory when he said,
"Sure."

This was a fast number,
and Ashley took every chance to shimmy, watching him closely for signs of
appreciation. She had forgotten to ask his name when his eyes threatened to
drown her. Must correct that between songs. She hoped he would stay on the
dance floor with her. He moved like a cobra, sinuous, graceful, and full of
hidden menace,  his expression slightly amused. Whatever; he wouldn't think it
so funny when she had him in bed.

When the song ended,
she moved into him and gave him a quick hug. Surprised, he straightened, but
didn't move away.

"What's your
name?" Ashley asked.

"Jake. Jake
Daniels."

"Jake. I like
it."

The next song was
starting and they were still standing on the dance floor, so they began to
dance to it. At first, neither recognized it, but after a confusing
introduction, it settled into a slower number. Ashley moved closer, and Jake
took her into his arms for an easy two-step. They were dancing like lovers,
Ashley's head resting against Jake's chest, when an angry voice startled her.

"What the hell is
this?" Dirk had arrived.

Ashley jerked away from
Jake, but Dirk had seen enough. "Keep your hands off my girl!"

Jake gave Dirk a cool glance.
"Your girl asked me to dance. It was the polite thing to do."

Ashley turned to Dirk,
but before she said anything, he seized her arm and propelled her toward the
table where Rebecca Sue and his friend Jason waited. She shook her arm free,
and sat down, pouting. Embarrassed, Ashley would not look toward Jake, who
shrugged and returned to his table, irritated.

Dirk was still angry.
"Why do you have to be such a little tease, Ash? One of these days you're
going to get me in a real fight."

"I was just
dancing with him, asshole. You didn’t have to go all caveman on him."

"Come with me, we
need to talk."

Yanking her up by the
arm again, Dirk force-marched Ashley outside to the patio, where a few people
were smoking. He looked around for a quiet spot and shoved her into a chair.
Leaning over her, his face only an inch from hers, he spoke with a vicious
snarl.

"You don't dance
with other guys when you're with me. You're with me until I say you're not. You
don't call me asshole, especially when other people are around. Do you get
that?"

Ashley got it, but she
didn't have to like it. Her defiant glare set Dirk off again.

"You're going to
pay for this little stunt. It's about time you wrapped those lips around my
cock again. Just wait 'til I get you in bed."

Ashley retorted, but
only in her mind, that it might be a cold day in hell when she went to bed with
him again. It wouldn't do any good to antagonize him though, so to salvage the
evening she pretended to reconsider  her attitude. Later, she would decide what
to do about Dirk, who was getting too cocky for his own good.

"Okay, Dirk. Let's
have a nice evening."

Mollified, he put his
arm around her as he led Ashley back into the club to dance.
