Chapter Twelve

May 4th

Arianna threw all the clothes on her bed she thought were date appropriate.

Ginni picked them up and started shaking her head. “How often do you go on dates?”

“My last date was right after I finished med school. He wanted a doctor, didn’t want the doctor’s daughter.” Arianna went back to the closet and sorted through the hangers.

“Just go sit down.” Ginni walked to her closet.

Arianna sunk onto the bed. “He told me he loved me yesterday.”

Ginni spun around a grin on her face. “That’s wonderful. I’m assuming you feel the same way?”

“I do.” Arianna looked down at her lap. “Do you know how long it’s been since a man has told me he loved me?”

“Scott?” Ginni went back to scanning the closet.

Arianna nodded.

“Then never, because as much as you loved Scott back then, he was a kid.” She pulled a white lace dress with tan stripes. “This.”

“It’s a little cold to be outside in that, don’t you think.”

Ginni grabbed a jean jacket and held it up. “I’m sure Trevor can find a way to keep you warm.”

Arianna blushed.

“Do you need me to help you figure out what to wear under this or can you do that on your own?”

“I have that covered.” Arianna went to her dresser and pulled out a gray and white lacy bra with a tiny green ribbon on it and matching lace panties.

“Sexy.” Ginni grinned. “Shoes and accessories?”

“Shoes are in the bottom of my closet and I have a jewelry box on my vanity.”

Ginni kneeled down and went through the shoes. She held up a pair of tan wedges with a bow on the toe. “These are cute.”

“I think I bought those shoes to go with that dress.” Arianna laughed.

Ginni shook her head, handed Arianna the shoes, and headed over to the vanity. “Let me ask you this. Do you feel the same way for Trevor that you did for Scott?”

“It’s a different feeling entirely.” Arianna stepped into the bathroom to get dressed. She stared in the mirror and grabbed her make-up bag. Nothing too heavy. A little eye make-up, light cover-up, and a light pink lipstick. She walked back into the bedroom. “What should I do with my hair?”

“We’ll curl it a bit.” Ginni put a double gold chain over her neck and handed her a pair of gold and emerald teardrop earrings.

“Those aren’t mine.”

“They’re mine.” Ginni smiled. “I brought a couple things with me when you said you needed help.”

“Thank you for this.” Arianna turned around, her arms outspread. “What do you think?”

“You look beautiful.” She patted the seat next to the bathroom. “You sit here, I’ll get the curling iron and finish you up in no time.”

True to her word, fifteen minutes later Arianna’s hair was done.

She stood and looked in the mirror. “It looks wonderful.” She hugged her friend. “Thank you.”

“What are friends for?” Ginni grinned.

The doorbell rang.

Arianna bit her lip.

“Go get it, you two have been dating for like a month and a half already.” Ginni prodded her gently toward the door.

Arianna opened the door.

Trevor stood before her. He wore dark wash blue jeans and a dark blue button up shirt. “You look stunning and I feel under dressed.”

“You look handsome as always.”

He leaned forward and gave her a quick kiss.

She reached up to wipe the lipstick off his lips. “The color doesn’t work on you.”

“It looks gorgeous on you.” Trevor motioned to the truck. “Are you ready to go?”

She nodded.

“You two have fun,” Ginni called.

Trevor and Arianna both waved and headed to the truck.

He opened the door, helped her inside, and closed the door behind her.

Arianna looked around for something to wipe her hands on only to tug her bra out from where she left it earlier.

“Taking it off this soon?” Trevor chuckled.

She blushed. “It’s the one I took off earlier.”

“I know.”

She rubbed her hands together. “What movie did you want to see?”

Trevor shrugged. “I figured I’d let you pick. I’d pick some action adventure movie and I didn’t know if you were up for that on a date.”

“We could do that. I think there’s a new comic book movie that came out today.”

“There is.” He nodded.

“Why don’t we see that?”

“Are you sure?” Trevor glanced over at her. “I don’t want you to watch something you don’t want too.”

“Just because I’m a girl, doesn’t mean I don’t like comic books, action movies, and video games.” Arianna rolled her eyes. “Where do you think Mina got her love for video games?”

“You play?”

“Of course, I play.” Arianna chuckled. “I even play the same Star Wars game you play.”

“Really?” Trevor smiled. “We can stay home and PVP? I belong to a guild. I’m even their recruiting officer.”

“Well, maybe if this date goes well, your guild will have a new recruit.”

Trevor raised an eyebrow. “The guild will have a new recruit?”

She smacked him in the arm. “Not in that way.”

“I’m joking.” He pulled out of the driveway.

“What’s the guild name?”

“Dark Lords of Hoth.”

“Hoth?” Arianna shook her head. “Who likes Hoth? It’s cold and desolate and why would anyone want to be there.”

“To be fair, none of the other guildies like Hoth either.”

She laughed. “I’m glad we were finally able to get out by ourselves.”

“Me too. I hope you’ll enjoy the evening.”

“I think we will.”

He wrapped his hand around hers as they were headed down the road.

*****

“Did you enjoy the movie?” Trevor took Arianna’s hand as they walked out of the theater.

“It was good.” She smiled.

He peered at her shoes. “Think you can walk a bit in those shoes?”

“Sure. I take it the park you were talking about is around here?”

His knee made a cracking sound followed by intense pain. “Maybe we should take the truck.”

“Are you okay?”

“A twinge, I’m sure it’s fine.”

“You didn’t hurt yourself pulling me out of the stream today, did you?”

Trevor shook his head. “No, I think I over did it the last couple days. I’ll be fine. I need to ease into longer walks.”

“That has to be hard on you. You spent so much time in the military and that focused life, I can’t imagine you spent a lot of time walking.”

Trevor opened the door to the truck for her. “I was on the cross country team in high school, I’m used to going long distances and I’m used to running.”

“I ran track in Junior High. I started on the team in High School, but then I got pregnant and that shot the hell out of that.”

“I came in second in the state my freshman and sophomore year and then finally made it to first my junior and senior year.” Trevor chuckled.

“I take it there was a bit of a rivalry there with someone?”

“Not quite. He was on my team, at least it was our school who won those first two years.”

“That’s awesome. How well did you know him? And what happened the last two years?”

“He graduated. He’s my brother Jake’s best friend. I think he still hangs out with Julian and Drew. His name is Ethan Steele, we’d always call him Superman, because he could run super-fast.” Trevor chuckled.

“Did you have a nickname?”

“I was the Flash, I came close to beating Ethan a couple times, but he’d pull out the super human speed at the end and that was the end of that.”

“The Flash, huh?”

“Don’t get any ideas—”

“Does flash stand for flasher, or over in a flash?”

“You’ll pay for that, later.” Trevor turned down a road with a wrought-iron fence around it. The big black gate opened as he drove up.

“This is fancy.”

“I told you it was a private park.”

“Private?”

“As in family owned.” He drove into a parking lot. He turned off the vehicle, got out, and came around to the other side. He grabbed a basket and a blanket out of the back seat of the truck. “I thought we could have a picnic.”

“That’s perfect.” She smiled at him as she hiked with him to a grassy area where he lay the blanket down and placed the basket next to it.

“I’ll be right back.” He headed back to his truck.

Arianna looked around at the forested scenery around her. She heard him heading back. She looked up to see him with a guitar slung across his shoulders. “I didn’t know you played guitar.

“Not many people do, it’s a hobby I took up in high school, but I don’t do it in public much.” He placed it on the blanket and sat down next to her. “You look beautiful tonight.”

“And you’re handsome.” She leaned into his arms. “I think I’m going to enjoy this. It’s not often I get to sit and talk to someone.”

“You’re a doctor, I’m sure you have lots of conversations during the day.”

“I do, but most of the time it’s about something in the medical field and let’s face it there’s only so much about a woman’s nether regions that a person wants to talk about during the day.”

Trevor’s face reddened. “Wow – okay, can’t say I needed to hear that.”

Arianna laughed. “You’d think it was something your sister talked about more, seeing as how she’s in the same field.”

He pressed his lips to hers, his arm around her back, as he lowered her to the ground. He broke the kiss and brushed her hair out of her face. “Let’s not talk about my family or any of that tonight.”

Arianna wrapped her arms around his neck. “Promise.”

“We should eat.”

“We don’t have too.” She ran her hands down his back and cupped his bottom.

Trevor closed his eyes and flexed his hips against hers. “It feels wonderful to be alone with you.”

“Then why don’t we make the most of it?” She moved her hand under his t-shirt. Her fingers traced the lines and contours of his muscles.

Trevor pressed his lips to her neck.

There was a loud whistle.

He glanced up to see kids running away from the edge of the fence line. “Maybe we should have moved back further.” He sat up.

Arianna blushed and propped herself into a sitting position. She rearranged her dress and folded her legs underneath her. “Maybe we should wait until later for that.”

“We can go back to my place or your place afterwards.”

“Either works for me.”

Trevor unpacked the basket.

*****

He stopped and grabbed his guitar. He played a few notes, made an adjustment on the tone and then continued.

Arianna cocked her head to the side, as he continued to play. Her eyes grew wide. “You’re playing my song.” She beamed. “I’d say come and dance with me, but then you’d stop playing.”

Trevor laughed as he continued to play the song. “Surprisingly enough I knew how to play it before I met you.”

Arianna sung along. When he finished the song, she scooted next to him and took the guitar strap off his neck and set it aside. “Thank you.”

“For what?” He put his arm around her.

“For making me feel like the most important girl in the world.” She snuggled her head onto his chest.

“You are one of the most important women in my world.” Trevor gestured to the food. “We should eat.”

“We should.” Arianna nodded.

*****

Arianna gazed into Trevor’s eyes as he hovered over her. His leg nestled between her thighs. Heat pooled there as she caressed his biceps. She ran her fingers to the top button of his shirt. “You should loosen up.” She unbuttoned the button.

“I think I am.” Trevor smiled. His cell phone sounded from his pocket. He picked up his phone, tossed it in the bottom of the basket, and closed it soundly. “Not tonight.”

Arianna laughed as she unbuttoned the next few buttons.

Trevor rolled over, dragging her with him, so she landed on top of him.

“Hmm, control. I could get used to this.” She ran her hands up his chest.

Trevor’s phone rang again.

She groaned and laid her head on his shoulder. “You should answer that. What if it’s important?”

“What’s more important than being here with you?” Trevor rubbed his hands over her back.

Arianna pressed a kiss to his lips as her own phone rang. She let out a heavy sign and grabbed for her purse.

“You’re not on call, come on.”

“Yeah, but everyone knows we’re together if they can’t get you, they’re going to try me.” She pressed the talk button on the screen. “Hello Marissa.”

“Is Trevor still with you?”

“Yeah? Why?”
