“Oh, Johnny.” Her eyes welled with tears, and she smiled. “I love who you were, who you are, and who you will be—and I will do whatever it takes to spend the rest of my life with you.”

He briefly closed his eyes in relief. “Whatever it takes?” he asked.

“Whatever it takes.”

He laughed softly, slipped the tiny white speaker into her ear, then pressed the Play button on the iPod. “Sometimes, it takes this.”

Together they soaked up the sun, dreamed of the future, and listened to Dino sing about love.
