Chapter Four

We arrived at the big party, which looked like an extravagant festival. Everything there was utterly grand, elegant and beautiful. Nathan introduced me to a couple of people and soon left. “I will be back in thirty minutes.” He said and before I could acknowledge, he left.

I looked around and tried to enjoy the party, but I couldn’t – there was something which was missing in that beautiful evening; may be a soul mate or a friend, but deep inside, I felt that I was incomplete.

I sat at a corner, ate some appetizers and waited for Nathan to return. I didn’t feel delighted to be left out like that. Nathan arrived after some forty minutes.

“I am sorry it took me so long, we can leave now,” he didn’t look at his best shape. He was pacing and was running out of his breath.

“Are you okay?” I asked.

“Yes, everything is fine. We should leave now!” he held my hand and we quickly walked towards the exit. I couldn’t process what happened. He was too mysterious and too handsome to be true. “What is wrong?” I asked him one more time when he started driving. I looked at him and I couldn’t stop noticing the change in his face. He lips turned pale and out of their glorious color. His eyes were no longer blue, they were emerald green. I couldn’t believe it, but his eyes were changing colors in front of me – from emerald green to hazel to blue in no time.

“Are you fine?” I asked him again and after driving for a while, he stopped the car.

“I am fine,” he looked at me but didn’t look fine at all. “I am really sorry for tonight. I am sorry that I got you in the middle of this. You were supposed to be home, sleeping in your bed. I am really sorry for tonight. I owe you one!” I read his eyes and could see that he really meant those words. It was the first time in my life when I could sense some compassion in Nathan.

“If you really want to make it up for tonight, then don’t take me home. Take me to the beach!” I demanded. I had no idea from where did that come from. I have never been a kind of girl who would demand something from her man, let alone from her boss. But that night was different. I was not the same girl anymore. With Nathan, I was not Rebecca Stone. I was someone else – the girl that I always wanted to be!

“I don’t know the way. I have never been to a beach,” he said innocently. “What? You live in the middle of Los Angeles and you have never been to a beach!” I almost shouted those words out loud. I couldn’t believe that Nathan, who was living in Los Angeles, the city which is famous for its beaches, has never been to one.

“We are going to Will Rogers’s beach. Right now!”

“I know the way, let’s go!” I added and guided his Jaguar to one of my favorite beaches in the city of angels.

After driving for another twenty minutes, we arrived at the beach. It was peaceful and looked hauntingly beautiful. The ocean reflected the city lights and looked dark blue, like the color of the midnight sky. I inhaled the fresh air and looked at Nathan.

At that moment, Nathan was not the CEO of a multinational company, he was not a billionaire. He was just another man. He let go of his blazer and his tight pair of shoes. He wasn’t the uptight rich boss. He was somewhere else. He was just Nathan Carter.

“Thank you for this! It looks so beautiful and calm,” he said as we both sat on the ground, feeling the fine sand that found its way on our palm and feet. I didn’t care about my dress or the sand that would go on my hair; I just wanted to feel that moment.

“How are you feeling Nathan?” I asked him. We both were sitting facing the ocean, letting the waves wash our feet. He looked at me with his eyes that reflected the beautiful ocean in its purest way. He didn’t say a word. He just leaned towards me and kissed my lips.

I felt a sudden electric wave coming from his lips and touching each every cell of my body. His luscious lips opened a new world to me and I felt his tongue inside my mouth.

“I am sorry. I got overwhelmed at the moment. I have never felt something so strong, so beautiful in my life before. I am sorry,” he said, but a part of him didn’t want to apologize. There was a tiger in him who wanted to rip apart my dress and do his way with me, but the gentlemen in him stopped him from fulfilling his desires.

“Don’t be!” was all I could say. I let him fulfill his deepest desires and his fantasies with those simple words.

He didn’t wait any longer and kissed my lips harder than before. The adrenalin rush had taken our judgments instead of our hearts. He unzipped me from my dress and threw it away towards his car. I took the clue and unbuttoned his crisp white shirt. He had a flawlessly chiselled body and I would see each and every muscle crafted with perfection. I touched his face and followed my fingers to his bare chest that felt hot as fire.

“You are on fire!” I said as he looked at my naked body and pressed my breasts. “You are so hot!” I mean it, in each and every possible way.

“Who are you?” I asked him. I was serious this time. I looked at his eyes and they started changing their color once again. He looked at me with the azure blue eyes and blinked and voila they turned emerald green. I blinked and saw again and they were brown. That just couldn’t happen!

Nathan didn’t say a word but pressed his body towards me. The pleasure of touching him was so exotic that I couldn’t utter a word either. He rested his fingers above my bare breasts and nuzzled them. He lowered his mouth and planted a kiss, slowly sucking them and I found it hard to breathe, let alone think. He was not done yet as he drew tiny little circles on my back with his other hand and the movement was so sensuous that I found myself pushing hard to him.

He kept moving down and headed further south. He pushed my legs apart and then as his lips made contact with the softest part of my body, I cried out his name. Nothing mattered in that instant; neither the changing color of his eyes, nor the unnatural heat which he was exuding. In that instant, all I knew was that I wanted him, badly, desperately and completely.

I was breathing hard and the pain was immense as all my nerve endings were on an alert. He seemed to be enjoying it and I was in no hurry whatsoever. He played with his fingers as he kept drawing patterns and when I just couldn’t take it longer, I commanded him to steer me to my release. He liked what he was doing to me and then he slowly entered inside, giving me what I had been asking for.

I had already peaked and the moment he entered; we were one. I rocked him with the intensity of my release. The pleasure washed over me and I simply rested there on the sand, naked and completely at peace. Before I could open my mouth or restart my thinking capacity, he again pushed inside me and I held on to him for my life and for the ride which was going to knock me down.

In a very brief instant, he had learned the ways which could instantly trigger my release and he basked in the glory. I tugged his lips and he let me do that. He was licking my neck and I knew this was the best night I would ever have. However, I needed answers and he seemed to be least interested in offering them.

I decided to play the game this time. I quickly got over him and let my hair fall on his face. I tried pinning him down which was hard because of his muscular built but I knew it turned him on. He liked to see me in charge. I slowly kissed him and then whispered in his ears, “Who are you? Try me. Trust me. Look at me sprawled all over you. Giving everything I have to you. Tell me, who are you Nathan Carter?”

His eyes were now still. They were caramel colored and I could see my face in them. He was gorgeous beyond words. I thought he would get up and leave but he stayed and after a very long pause, he started to talk.

“I can’t tell you who or what I am. You know that I am different but you should also know I am not here to hurt you. If this suffices, I would love to lie down next to you, every night. You excite me. I have watched you since the day you have walked in my office and I have wanted you. I tried avoiding contact for as long as I could but my mind is filled with too many images of you. I had often fantasized about holding you in my arms and kissing the sense out of you. Now that I have done it, I want to do it again. I am not a bad guy. I don’t have criminal records. I am not a stalker or a pervert. You have to trust me Rebecca. Can you? I have let you in but I give you the chance to walk out. You can choose to go or stay. The call is yours to make. I, however, cannot share more of what or who I am.”

I was baffled by the man. He was both kind and rude at the same time. He could share the whole of his body and possibly his soul but didn’t trust me enough to tell me who he was. Why did everything seem to be a riddle? I saw my body conjoined with his and I couldn’t decide what to do.

As much as I craved to kiss him and to touch him and to feel him inside me, I knew this was not the way things worked. He might be a billionaire but I would never be with someone who would not trust me. I chose my respect over my feelings.

“Nathan, I really want you. However, I can’t be with someone who can trust me with his body but not his heart. As long as I don’t know who you are, I won’t be with you. Not here, not in the office. I love my work but I can’t work with someone who is a closed book. You will have my resignation letter on your table tomorrow. I had a great night but sadly, this would be our last encounter.”

I wanted to kiss him before I left but I knew it would be the wrong thing to do. I was humiliated, ashamed and broken. I walked naked to the car, picked my dress and started wearing it. I thought Nathan would come and chase me, apologize and make it up but no one came. I turned back and I saw him looking at the ocean. He could have absolutely anyone. I was just another dot on his map. I was a chapter, best forgotten.

I cried and I let the tears fall. I headed home and though it was still summer, I felt icy cold. The next morning I woke up feeling empty and hollow. In less than a night, I was jobless and was nursing heartbreak. It was such a foolish idea to get involved with Nathan but even as I said that, his changing eye colors called out to me. As ridiculous as it sounded, I still wanted to hold him and to guide him inside me.

Chapter Five

A week passed and I was still on the lookout for a job. I had got calls from numerous agencies but somehow I didn’t feel like I could fit in any of those. However, I knew I had bills to pay and so reluctantly, I agreed for one of those jobs that seemed just right to fill in the gap.

The firm was a government funded agency and they were looking for someone who had a profile like mine. It was really strange as to how impeccably I fit into their job description. I had felt like it was tailored for me. I put on my A-line black skirt and teamed it with a white blouse and added just a little makeup and was all set to leave my home, when a bell rang.

I wasn’t expecting any visitors so it was strange to hear the bell. I was a little apprehensive and then opened the door to find Nathan Carter standing there. He was wearing a pink tee and faded ripped jeans. His eyes looked tired like he hadn’t slept and I wanted to see what color they were. They looked azure blue and when I blinked, they were still the same.

The kind of passion I felt simply seeing him was inexplicable. I had wanted to curl my hands in his hair and crumble his tee and toss it apart. He had a very strong grip on me and I both hated and loved him together.

“Mr. Nathan, what brings you here?”

“Please Rebecca. Let me in. “

“I have an interview. I can’t sit and get my bills paid. I am not as rich as you. Excuse me now because I don’t like being late for job interviews.”

“You can’t have this job Rebecca. This is why I came here. They are not good people. They want to exploit the knowledge you have. Trust me on this.”

I gave a hollow laugh when he said the word ‘trust’.

“I could do a lot of things Nathan but trust certainly seems to be a wrong choice. Did you trust me with your identity when you were passionately inside me? Did you trust me when you looked at me like you wanted a forever with me? Don’t bullshit me with trust. Let me go now. If you think, I am one of those bitches who end up spilling secrets about their ex, let me get two things straight. We were never a thing, so I am not your ex who wants vengeance for being unceremoniously dumped or worse used as a sex toy. Second, I regard my work principles very high and would never stoop to such behavior. I love you Nathan. I realized it the day I left, the day you left. However, I know that there is nothing which that icy cold heart of yours allows, you to feel. I hold no grudge. You may leave now.”

Nathan looked at me and said, “It is not what you think.” He brushed his hair absently, something which I noticed he did quite a lot and then left; once again, leaving me alone. It was silly to even get my hopes up that he would fight for me because he never did. For Nathan, it was always “Do it” and everybody obeyed. I was an exception who had stirred his ship.

As I headed for the interview, I couldn’t forget Nathan’s words. If he said something, I knew there was veracity because in the world of business, there was no one who was as influential and powerful as Nathan Carter. He ruled the world of business and the job description had started to look a little too personalized for my application.

Still, I couldn’t just give up the opportunity as I wanted to come to my own decision. As I entered the building, I put on a business approach. I pressed the elevator to the 11th floor and waited. There was another guy in the lift who was taking to someone over the phone. I was generally not the one to eavesdrop but when I heard Nathan’s name, I decided to hear closer.

“Yeah. Get her in. She would be the key to Nathan. We’ve heard the guy is spending sleepless nights over her. Getting her in can help us get hands on those equipments. I think your theory on Nathan is right. We just need to expose it by documenting facts. Make sure she knows nothing about the plan.”

It didn’t take me a long time to understand I was the bait here. I was the girl he was talking about. He had not seen me; perhaps he never thought it would be me because I had come in an hour earlier. Nathan’s presence in my home had perturbed me and so I had left earlier, not knowing how else to avoid him.

As the lift stopped at the 11
th
floor, the guy waited for me to get out. As I did, I slowly lobbied into the sofa and sat there. I let the words sink inside and then decided I had to talk to Nathan. Maybe, the stakes were too high. I just didn’t know what to do and I debated whether or not to call him up.

It looked like for once the timing in my life was just right. My cell phone chimed and it was Nathan calling.

“Rebecca, don’t do this. I will explain it to you. You need the answers. I will tell you. I will tell every goddamn thing, but don’t go there for the job. They’re dangerous. Trust me once and I swear I will win over you. I love you Rebecca Stone. I was just an uptight ass refusing to say those words until I was shit scared of losing you. You’re the only best thing to have ever happened to me. I am not your ordinary guy but I am going to fight till the end of times to keep you safe. The firm you have applied for is after my research lab whose work I had assigned to you. I can’t tell more stuff over the phone but I promise to tell you everything. Meet me for coffee tonight at the Café Bizanto, beside your home. Please come as soon as you can. Those guys there are assholes. If they come to know that you are already aware of their plans, they are going to mess around. Are you with me, Rebecca?”

I couldn’t believe my ears. Holy crap, Nathan Carter had just told that he loved me and somehow the rest of the words didn’t matter. Well they did but not as much as the words I have been longing to hear.

“You love me, Nathan? You really do? You’re going to trust me with everything?” I couldn’t hide the happiness in my voice.

“Yes, Rebecca. Yes, yes and a yes to everything. You mean to me more than anything in this world. Come back babe. I am waiting at Bizanto.”

“I will be there in half an hour.”

As soon as I disconnected my phone, I\saw two guys standing tall over me. They were huge, muscular and looked menacing.

“Rebecca Stone, you are called to the office”, the taller one barked.

“I am sorry I have an emergency. I need to leave.”

“Rebecca Stone, you need to see the boss right now.”

I sensed danger and I didn’t know what to do. I tried being clam but I was sweating. Nathan’s words started ringing in my ears. What were they up to!

“Okay, I will be there. Will you please excuse me for a moment? I need to go to the washroom.”

“You can use the one inside the office.”

“Excuse me! Who are you to force this upon me? This is a job interview. You can’t force me into anything.” I quickly dialed back Nathan’s number, avoiding their gaze so that I could relay the information to him. He was the only one I trusted who could help me because I understood that I was certainly going to need a lot of help.

Seeing no other alternative, one of the guys cuffed me and I was appalled. He forced me inside the room and I kept shouting. I was eternally grateful for the call I had connected just in time and I prayed to God that Nathan had picked it up and could hear all of it.

As I was taken inside the glass doors, I kept pushing and trying to break free.

“Chris, here she is. She was trying to escape and we heard her talking to Nathan over the phone. It is true, she is his love interest. We have picked the right card.” One of the guards narrated.

“What do you want from me? Why are you doing this? You know I could sue you and land you all in jail. I am an independent woman and you can’t do this to me. You are a government funded firm. What makes you go to such heights?” I tried to be strong but my insides were shivering with fear.

The guy who was addressed as Chris got up.

“So, you are Nathan Carter’s girlfriend, the girl he would do anything for.”

“I don’t know what you’re talking about.”

“Oh honey, you know everything but did Nathan tell you who he truly is. He surely isn’t as human as you or me.”

“I don’t care who he is and you have no rights to tell. Leave me now.”

He looked at me and smiled in the meanest way. “You are not going anywhere, honey until you share the information you have. His research labs are gold mines. Did he tell you that he doesn’t belong to Earth? He is an invader, an alien with a motive of wreaking havoc on this planet. Did he tell you any of this?”

It didn’t make sense. Nathan Carter was an alien! Holy shit! As hard as it was to process that Nathan was an alien. I could not agree that he was here to invade Earth. Sure, he had kept the details confidential, even when I was working for him, but the guy never looked to be the one who would do something so horrendous.

“He is not like you Chris. I don’t care if he belongs to another planet; he still has a better heart than yours. He doesn’t treat women the way you do. He didn’t abuse me, once when I was working at his place. You’re a fucking asshole and you will pay for your deeds.”

He put his hands in my hair and pushed me back. My head hit the side of a chair and I cried in pain.

“Lock her up in room 034 on the third floor and we will wait for Nathan to react.” Chris barked the orders and left, leaving me in tears. I had no clue as to whether or not Nathan had heard the conversation, if he had ever picked the call, but I kept praying he did.

They tied my hands to the chair and locked me in the 4x4 room and I suffocated. I tried to break free but I knew there was no way I would succeed. Nathan Carter was an alien. The news came as shock. I had imagined a lot of things but alien never was one of them.

What was he really researching about? Suddenly I felt something move on my hands and as I looked down, I was shocked to see that the ropes were severed and my hands were free. I couldn’t understand what had just happened but as I tried to look, I saw a silhouette climbed above the window. It was Nathan as his eyes looked into mine. They were golden orange and I knew he had used the power of his eyes to untie the knots in my hand. He signalled me to pick my phone.

I had a text from him.

“Rebecca, do as I instruct. Their buildings have very strong instruments and alarms which will go off the moment I enter inside. You will have to fight for the two of us. You have to trust me completely but be very brave. I have cut down the ropes and I will help you but I can only stand outside lest they will capture the two of us.

They have alarms embedded everywhere. So, you need to slowly climb out of this window without letting anyone notice you. Once you are out, I swear no one can get their hands on you.”

The window was very small and it would take a lot of skills to climb. I had never been good at such things but the danger of my own life and that of Nathan’s made me try hard. I had climbed halfway when I heard footsteps, I quickly got back to my chair and pretended I was asleep and my hands were still tied.

The guard looked at me and left.

I started climbing again careful not to make any noise. I tried hard to get through the window and after a ridiculously long 15 minutes, I managed to do it. Nathan was waiting on the other side and the moment I climbed out; he hugged me and kissed me.

This was not the right time but I found myself kissing him back.

“Are you an?”

He stopped me midway and said we needed to leave.

I couldn’t believe what he did. We were swirling in the air and I knew he was the alien Chris had been talking about. However; I was not scared or petrified because I knew he was not here to sabotage world peace.

When we were a mile or two away, he got down and we landed in the middle of nowhere.

“Yes Rebecca. I am an alien. However, my great grandparents had migrated here and so I was born here. I am almost one among you, except for the powers which I have. My research lab is for sending my findings to the outer space. I am not here to invade Earth as you were told. We are looking at a protocol that could make things better for both the planets. However, Chris and his team are greedy and want to make wrong use of our energy. This is why I had kept it secret. Before I came here, I locked the lab and I have timed it to destroy itself. The company will no longer exist because these guys would get their hands on the details sooner or later. They are more powerful than I gave them credit for.

The news will portray me as dead and you, honey will elope with me. Let us hit the road and never look back again. Let us start once again because I don’t care where I am as long as I am with you.”

He fell on his knee and asked, “Rebecca Stone, would you marry an almost human?”

“Yes,” I shrieked and didn’t care about the uncertainty that lied ahead.

I kissed him hot, hard and tight and he made love to me, right in that unknown land as we held on to each other for the rest of our lives. He undressed me and I unbuttoned his shirt. He kissed me everywhere from my forehead to the lips to the breast and even underneath. I held him and dug my nails on his beautifully carved chest and took charge by getting over him. He smiled and said, “that’s my girl” and together we came home. He was with me, inside me, over me and near me. Life was perfect. My fairy-tale dream had come true.
