He stood behind the tree across the street, watching as she made her way toward the courthouse. She was carrying the package from the restaurant. It was undoubtedly someone’s lunch as Cocoa the old short-haired Pointer happily led her owner at a pace of the canine’s choosing.
Molly was completely unaware that only yards away a lovesick young man followed. A young man whose daily activities revolved around seeking her out for the mere purpose of getting to lay his eyes on her.
You would think small town life would make this a rather easy thing to accomplish, but not for Hunter Dennison.
He knew he was teetering on a slippery slope by constantly running into her here, there, and everywhere. After all, she was quite intelligent, and he guessed she would surely figure out what he was doing one of these days and look at him like the pariah he was.
But, given the choice of following Molly Sowards around or something else, he would pick this every time. No contest.
As far as Hunter was concerned, Molly was his.
However, since she was only fifteen to his eighteen, he understood the ramifications of their three-year age difference, and the conclusion of what his only option was; he had to wait.
He might have to wait on admitting to the world that he’d found the girl for him, but he didn’t have to suffer entirely. So, he did what he found to be an easy consolation—he became her friend. Making such a sacrifice allowed him to justify running into her more often than not, which was much more gratifying than leaving their encounters to his dreams only.
His older brother, Gage, was the only other person who knew Hunter’s private agonizing ordeal. He concurred that Hunter was doing right by waiting for Molly to come of age, but it didn’t help that Gage had his love life out in the open and dated whomever he wanted.
So this was the private cross that Hunter chose to bear. He would crush on Molly from afar, without her knowing his true feelings or the pain he went through daily because he couldn’t show her how he felt.
To add insult to injury, he allowed his eyes to roam over her, thank God for his 20/20 vision.
From this distance, he could clearly see her beautiful just-coming-in curves beneath her white cotton shorts, which showcased her beautiful long tanned legs. The green tie-dye shirt, which he knew set off the luminous green eyes he saw in his dreams, didn’t cling but didn’t hide much either. He couldn’t help but smile as he watched her high swinging blond ponytail swish back and forth in a hypnotic way. The rhythm perfectly matched those of her hips; the same hips that called to him whether asleep or awake. Add in the most beautiful smile, the type of smile that made you smile yourself just because only true joy could be that reactive, and she was the perfect woman.
Did she have any idea how much of a wet dream she was?
God, he hoped not, just as he dreaded the day he would seek her out and he would find she wasn’t alone.
