CHAPTER SEVEN

Micha

I
flopped down on the bed and cursed myself a million times over. I was such a fucking idiot. I wanted to kick my own ass. Why the fuck did I say anything about not wanting a mate? Like that wasn’t going to hurt her? I could feel the pain radiating off her and even now I knew she was in the shower crying. How do I make this right? Jesus, when I fuck up, I fuck up royally! Pun intended.

I got out of bed and pulled on a pair of drawstring cotton pants. I picked up the phone near the bed, calling down to the kitchen for food. Just as I hung up I heard the retching. I immediately went to the bathroom and walked in to find Bliss wrapped in a towel bent over the toilet. I grabbed her long hair and held it back while she emptied the contents of her stomach. I could sense the pain radiating through her. More transition symptoms. When would her transition hit and be over? I wasn’t sure her body could withstand many more of these episodes.

“I’ve got you baby,” I told her as I rubbed her back.

“Just leave me,” she murmured resting her head on the seat.

I reached over to the sink and wet a washcloth. I wrung it out and brought it to her forehead. She sighed when the cool material hit her skin. We sat there for a few minutes without her emptying her stomach any further.

“Can you stand?” I asked holding my hand out to her. She nodded and slowly climbed to her feet by taking my hand. She was shaking and looked worn out.

“I need to brush my teeth,” she murmured shuffling over to the double sinks. She made quick work of cleaning her teeth then turned to me. I didn’t even give her the option of walking. I just picked her up and carried her back to bed. I laid her against the pillows, pulling the sheet over her. I picked up the phone calling back down to the kitchen to order her some dry toast and ginger ale.

She groaned and curled into herself, sweat breaking out on her temples. I bit into my wrist, then put it to her lips. She didn’t hesitate to take what I was offering. Her body soon began to relax as the pain subsided. She pulled away from my wrist, licking at the wound I’d made. Surprisingly enough, the tears closed up quickly. She had the agent in her saliva like all vampires, after all.

“Thank you Micha.”

I leaned in, kissed her forehead then sat next to her on the bed. She wouldn’t look at me. She kept her eyes downcast. “Look at me Bliss.”

She was slow to comply but she finally looked me in the eye. “I’m your mate. It’s my job, no, my privilege to feed you. You never have to thank me for that.” I ran my thumb against her cheek, caressing her. She leaned into my hand and closed her eyes. “How is the pain now?”

She opened her eyes, taking a moment to answer. “Better. Not completely gone, but better. It doesn’t feel like my insides are being twisted anymore.”

“That’s good. We need to get into the habit of feeding you every few hours. It might help alleviate some of the worse symptoms of the transition. Do you get any forewarning that the symptoms are about to start?”

She shook her head. “No, it’s always like a punch in the gut. It just hits me all at once.”

We both turned at the knock on our bedroom door. I got up to open the door. Lucy was standing there with her doctor’s bag and a grim expression on her face.

“I came to check on Bliss. I waited till you ordered food, and I followed it up. Can I see her?” she asked.

I opened the door wider so she could see Bliss sitting up in bed. “Good timing doc. She just had severe retching and pain. I gave her some blood. She’s feeling a little better now.”

Lucy walked into the room and went straight to the bed. She immediately touched Bliss’ forehead and listened to her heart. “No fever, heart rate is good.”

She pulled away from Bliss, putting her things back in that black bag she carried. She turned to me, then back to Bliss. “I got the results back from your blood work,” she started.

“And?” I asked a little impatiently.

Lucy sighed. “There are some anomalies. You have human genetics and vampire genetics, but there was also something else mixed in. I’m not sure what it is. How long have you been having transition symptoms?” she asked.

“Over a month now.” Bliss responded, worrying her bottom lip.

“When is your thirtieth birthday?” Lucy took out a pen and pad and started to write Bliss’ responses down.

“December. Is there something wrong with me Lucy?” Bliss asked concerned.

Lucy shook her head. “No, no, not wrong, just different. Transition symptoms usually begin a month, maybe six weeks before a vampire’s thirtieth birthday. Yours have started so soon. Tell me about the symptoms.”

Bliss ran her fingers through her hair. “Umm, there’s the burning pain in my stomach and tightness in my chest. There are other times when I feel like my whole body is on fire. My gums hurt near my incisors. My fangs have grown some. Then there are the times when I feel so aggressive I want to rip things apart and then I’m over emotional and feel so lost.”

“Ok, some of those are normal transition symptoms but I felt your pain yesterday and yours is off the chart. Everyone picked up on it and we shouldn’t have been able to. Aggression is normal in males but usually not females. I’m not sure if it’s the human genes playing havoc or if it’s the anomalies I found that are affecting your transition. It is taking much longer than a normal vampire transition. I’d like to consult with another vampire doctor. He specializes in genetics. Would that be ok?” she asked looking from Bliss to me.

“Don’t give him Bliss’ name or tell him anything about her. Just the blood work and symptoms. There are lots of human vampire hybrids out there, but I don’t want anyone to be able to point directly to Bliss.”

Lucy nodded. “Understood Micha. Bliss, I’d like to take a little more blood, if you are okay with that.”

Bliss nodded, exposing her arm. Lucy opened her bag and got out all the necessary implements to draw blood. Bliss winced a bit when Lucy pricked her with the needle but overall it was a quick process. Lucy thanked her, then headed out the door giving me a pointed look.

“I’ll be right back sweetheart. I’m going to see Lucy out.” I followed Lucy out of the bedroom and into the sitting room where she turned to me.

“What is it you aren’t telling us Lucy?” I asked.

“I didn’t want to scare her Micha, that’s why I’m only telling you this. The anomalies I found in her blood are another genetic marker, I just don’t know what. She’s vampire, but she’s more also, and—not human. She has very little human in her blood. It’s all vampire and something else. Something I haven’t seen before.”

“She can go out in the daylight, Lucy, and it doesn’t bother her. I’m almost three hundred years old and I can only go out on overcast days. How can that be if she’s mostly vampire?”

“I don’t know Micha. Your Bliss is very unique. Has she shown any other vampire traits?” Lucy asked curiously.

“She has the healing agent in her saliva. Her fangs are becoming more pronounced. Dante and Reardon mentioned that she has a knack at prediction,” I informed her with a smile, remembering the conversation about the $500 they lost to her.

“Let me know if she develops any different symptoms than the usual ones. And if her pain ever gets to be too much to bear, I have painkillers Micha. Don’t let her suffer unnecessarily.”

“I won’t. I also told her this morning we are going to make sure she gets some of my blood every few hours, it seems to help ease her pain.”

“Good plan. See you guys later.” After I saw Lucy out I went to the table where our food had been placed on warmers. I grabbed a couple of toast slices and the ginger-ale for Bliss, then headed back to our bedroom. I had a mate to take care of.

CHAPTER EIGHT

Bliss

I
closed the book I was reading, stood up and stretched my cramped muscles. I’d been under this tree for way too long reading. The sunbeam that filtered through the trees warmed me on this cool fall day. The sun would soon be setting. I absently wondered if Micha was up and about. Vampires did tend to sleep the daylight away.

As promised Micha fed me every several hours and it seemed to keep the worst of the transition symptoms at bay. Now that I thought about it, I hadn’t had any transitions symptoms in over a week. However, I hadn’t been sleeping well at all. Just a few hours each day. So, it was mostly me roaming the deserted halls of the mansion during the day along with the servants who kept everything clean and sparkling. I’d cooked a few meals that everyone raved over, much to the cook’s dismay. He didn’t particularly like me in his kitchen but he never told me no. He even helped chop vegetables. Which was very sweet of him.

I haunted the library on a regular basis. I had my E-reader, but there was just something about holding a book in your hands and being able to turn the pages that I loved. Micha had a library that could keep me occupied for centuries. The book I was currently reading under my new favorite tree was from his extensive library.

It was going on three weeks since we’d fought about Micha’s lack of enthusiasm over being gifted with another mate. We didn’t discuss it but occasionally, Micha would wrap me in those strong arms of his, rub his slightly bristled jaw against mine and whisper, “I am deliriously happy you are my mate” in my ear. It always made me smile. It was hard to stay angry with him and better yet, I found myself falling in love with my mate.

He hadn’t fully claimed me–though. We’d never gone back into his playroom since that first night he’d shown me everything. We did, however, “fool around”. The foreplay was amazing and Micha satisfied me on every level but I was getting impatient. Every time I thought we were at the point where he’d take me, he’d back off. It was quite frustrating. He’d taught me how to please him with my hands and mouth, and the lessons had been quite fun, but he never took it further than our just fooling around.

Last night, he asked me if I trusted him. I, of course, said yes, because I did. Well he’d proceeded to flip me over his knees and spank me. The ten swats had stung but didn’t really hurt. And, if I was being honest I’d admit it had turned me on. When he pulled me off his knees and placed me on the bed, he kissed the daylights out of me and told me how proud of me he was. I hadn’t cried and begged him to stop. It made me feel ten feet tall that I’d made him so happy with such a small thing. He’d proceeded to show me how happy he was with me with his tongue. After my fourth orgasm he finally let me rest. Just thinking about it was making my panties wet.

I gathered my book and headed back toward the house. I went through the kitchen saying hello to Jean-Luc and Benny, the cook. I grabbed an apple from the counter and started up the stairs to Micha and my suite.

As I climbed the stairs, I took in the scent of someone new. It hit me suddenly that I could smell that another person, a female, had climbed these stairs recently. She wasn’t part of the household; I knew it instinctively. I went through the double doors of our suite, still following that scent. It lead me to Micha’s office door. I was so intent on finding the source of the scent, that I opened the door without knocking. I stood agape in the doorway, my book and apple falling to the floor. I stood stuck in the doorway trying to decipher what I was seeing. Micha’s arms were wrapped securely around a naked blonde, her hair flowing down her back to her ass. His face was buried in her neck, feeding from her. Her low moan forced an instinctive growl from me.

Micha opened his eyes and looked directly at me. He immediately pulled away from the woman but was considerate enough to close her wounds, which had my hands curling into tight fists. My nails dug into my palm, grounding me. I wanted to rip the blonde’s head off, then Micha’s balls.

“You bastard.”

“Bliss, sweetheart, it’s not what you are thinking,” he began as he walked over to me.

I backed away when he tried to touch me. “Don’t touch me,” he smelled like the blonde. Her scent was all over him and it made me see red. “You smell like her. Her scent is all over you,” I hissed at him.

“I needed to feed. That’s all this is,” he explained.

“Really? She needs to be fucking naked for you to tap a vein?” I was so angry. I could feel the anger boiling through me.

Micha ran his hands through his hair once, twice and then again. “She misunderstood my purpose in calling her.”

“Sire, who is this person?” the blonde asked putting on a ruby red robe. She approached us, stopping next to Micha. They made a beautiful couple, I thought absently.

“Jade, this is my mate, Bliss. Bliss, this is Jade. She feeds me when I’m in need.”

“This
human
is your mate? Humans are so weak. No wonder you called upon me,” Jade said, snidely looking me up and down.

“This human is going to kick your blonde ass,” I hissed just before I made a grab for the bimbo. Micha grabbed me just before my hand wrapped around her throat.

“Baby, calm down. Jade thank you for your service. You know the way out.” Micha kept his arms wrapped tightly around me, holding me against his hard body.

“But Micha…” Jade began in a whiny voice.

“Goodbye Jade. Thank you again.” Micha said pointedly. Jade huffed, gave me one last evil glare and flounced out of his office. Micha turned me in his arms so that we were facing each other.

“I can’t take your blood right now Bliss. You are in the middle of your transition and my taking your blood would weaken you too much. I’m not going to take the chance of hurting you. I needed to feed and Jade has served as my blood source for fifty years. Yes, we were once lovers, but we haven’t been for a very long time. When I called upon her again, she thought I’d reconsidered and was going to take her on as a lover again. I’m sorry you walked in on that,” he explained with great sincerity.

“You should have told me what you were going to do. I should have been here. Maybe then she wouldn’t have misunderstood,” I said angrily.

He nodded his head. “Would you be ok with watching me feed from another woman or would you try to take her throat out?” he asked with a smile.

“If I was forewarned of what was going to happen, I’d be okay with it. I’m not saying I’d be happy to watch you feed from another woman, but at least I’d be there, to share in the experience with you since I’m the one who can’t feed you.”

“Understood sweetheart. Next time I need to feed, you’ll be there. I’ll also find someone different. Someone I don’t have a history with.”

“Thank you.” My anger subsided just as quickly as it had flared up. “Please go shower, you smell like her.”

He kissed my forehead, then let me go. “My brothers want to take us to a club tonight. The owner is a friend and they mentioned that you like dancing. Wanna go?”

“Really? You’ll go? You’ll bring me?” I asked excitedly. Micha smiled at me, flashing his fangs while he unbuttoned his shirt.

“Yes sweetheart, we can go.”

I ran to him and hugged him tight. “Thank you, thank you so much.” I kissed him quickly but before I could release him, Micha grabbed hold of me and deepened the kiss. Our tongues dueled and that unique taste of Micha filled my senses, until the scent of the blonde bimbo interrupted.

“I can’t, you smell like her.” I pulled away shaking my head.

“Sorry baby, I got carried away. I’ll go shower.”

I watched him walk away toward our bedroom. As soon as he was out of sight I whooped and jumped in the air. I was so excited to finally be getting out. I was going a bit stir crazy. I picked up my apple and book then headed for my own room and shower. I was going dancing!
