I guess there are worse ways to go.

Just when I feel like I might have to beg her to stop she begins to shake under me, gasping and I see the remote slip out of her hand and fall on the pillows. The waves in me recede slowly as she crests, whimpering my name.

“Tully…ohhhh…Tully…”

We hold each other for a long time after that, not speaking, barely moving.

“W-w-was beautiful,” she says. I kiss two tears from her cheeks.

“I love you,” I say.

But I’ve worn her out. She’s still so tired from the effort of recovering. Her eyes flutter closed. “Stay with me?” she asks sleepily.

“Forever.”

She breathes in my arms, and I carefully fish the remote out of the tangled pillows and tuck it into the drawer of the bedside table. Then I lie beside her, pulling the sheet up to cover us both.

There are things we need to discuss. I feel much more prepared to face them now that we’ve been together again. She makes me feel strong, as though I can do anything. Her love empowers me. Yes, we have plans to make. But all that can wait for tomorrow.

For now, love is enough.
