KJ gasped and before she could speak his mouth was on her, teasing and exploring. She steadied herself, gripping the edge of the counter as his tongue darted in and out.
Yes, oh God, yes.
Her body quivered as his fingers slipped over her slick clit. Her body jumped, and her legs began to close.

Grabbing her thighs he said, “Keep your legs open for me.”

She did as he asked. Drew parted her delicate folds and ran his finger over and over her clit again. “Please, I need . . .”

Answering her, he inserted a finger inside her. Her body clenched around it as his thumb continued to stroke her swollen clit. Faster and deeper he took her with his finger. She couldn’t take it; her body wanted release, but he held her there. Moving his hand, he reached for her breasts, kneading them. He inserted a second finger and went even deeper.
“Drew,”
her mind cried out. His fingers found her nipples and pinched and tugged. A sweet pain caused the floodgates to open. Her body shook and shuddered as his assault continued. As her climax began to ease he removed his thumb and sucked her clit hard to bring her another wave of pleasure. It seemed endless.

Her body was still twitching when he removed his mouth and fingers. “You’re amazing,” he said and reached for her hand.

No, you are.
She was still unable to speak. Her legs wobbled when she tried to stand. He caught her around the waist and said, “I believe our bath awaits, my love.”

She would never get tired of him calling her that. KJ loved him more than she could explain, more than she could show. Her mind couldn’t form the words to express what her heart felt.

Stepping into the hot tub, she began to relax her muscles. Drew knelt then had her kneel in front of him, her back leaning against him. KJ could feel his hard manhood pressed against her ass.

“I need you so bad.” His breath was hot against the back of her neck and his lips placed light kisses along her shoulder as his hands came around her, cupping her breasts.

“Drew, I can’t wait anymore. Please . . .” KJ pleaded and rubbed her ass against him teasingly. Her need, to feel him inside her was growing. She struggled to turn around, to face him and take control, but he held her firmly in place. No matter what she tried, he prevented her from doing so.

“In due time,” he said, giving her ass a light smack.

It stung slightly in a playfully erotic way. Something within her wanted it again. Grinding against him, she bent over, holding both sides of the tub. Purposely she flipped her long hair to one side and looked back at him over her shoulder. She swayed her hips against him until he firmly grabbed them. “Damn it,” he said hoarsely. Drew gripped and held himself at her opening.

“Drew,” KJ said as he slowly settled himself deep inside her. “God, yes.” He felt huge, filling her completely. He waited a minute, letting her body adapt, before he started to move his hips. Rocking back and forth he entered and withdrew again and again. His hands were on her hips, pulling her roughly to him. The water in the tub smacked between them as their bodies collided again and again.

“Touch yourself,” he commanded. “I want you to rub your clit while I fuck you.”

KJ had never touched herself in front of another person before and hesitated.

Drew said again, “Do it.” He gave her ass another smack, this time a bit harder. She felt herself tighten around him in pleasure. KJ slipped her hand between her legs and slowly started to stroke herself. At first she was embarrassed, but then the pleasure overtook her inhibitions and she was feverishly circling over and over, her body on fire. Drew was pumping her from behind, and each time he slapped her ass she gasped in pleasure, wanting more.
Oh God, I can’t believe how good this feels. Is this what rough sex feels like?
Moaning in pleasure, as she relinquished her control to Drew.
I’m all yours. Take me.
She couldn’t get enough, meeting his every thrust with her own.
God, yes, Drew.
“Don’t stop,” she cried out. Then her body began to shudder as she released around him.

In the midst of her own climax she heard him cry out her name, “Katherine,” followed by a deep animal growl before he collapsed on her.

Both were quiet as they tried to catch their breath. As they relaxed, Drew adjusted himself and lay back in the tub. She finally was allowed to turn to face him. “That was—”

“Amazing,” Drew finished. Brushing the damp hair from her face, he kissed her softly. “I hope I didn’t hurt you,” he said as his hand brushed against her ass.

Blushing, she didn’t want to admit she liked it, but yet she didn’t want to hide that from him either. Smiling, she answered, “You can hurt me like that anytime.”

Drew reached behind him and grabbed the glasses, champagne, and strawberries that had yet to be touched. Handing her a glass, he said, “I envisioned this so differently earlier, but once I saw you, I couldn’t help myself. This was supposed to be a romantic night. Instead it was—”

“Perfect.” KJ kissed him softly. Raising her glass she said, “Here’s to many more nights filled with romance just like this one.”

He tipped his glass to click with hers. “Now that is something I can look forward to.”

Being with him on any level was more powerful than she’d ever imagined. There was a time she would never have allowed herself to think past the here and now. Since meeting Drew, all she could think about was what was to come next. Everything was new and exciting. She also had envisioned tonight differently. There hadn’t been any romance involved in her vision, just long, open communication and hopefully an acceptance for what she had to say. Normally she would never open that door to the past, but it would come out one day, and the longer she waited the more concerned she felt about his response. KJ had to tell him about Brad.

She sipped her drink and placed her head on his shoulder.
Tonight we hold each other, tomorrow we talk.

Chapter Twenty-Three

A
s they sat
in the kitchen sipping their coffee, Drew could tell there was something on Katherine’s mind. She would look his way as though studying him, yet when he turned to her she averted her eyes. Last night, she’d said everything was perfect; it seemed this morning she had a different opinion.

He’d never been one to beat around the bush and trying to guess what she was thinking was nearly impossible. Normally he could read a woman’s thoughts, giving him an advantage. Katherine, on the other hand, was complex. The challenge was something that had attracted him to her in the first place. “What’s wrong?”
Nothing like easing your way into a conversation there, buddy.
Her eyes darted his way and her hands appeared to tremble. Since when did he make her nervous? Had he overlooked something last night?

When she spoke her voice was soft, barely a whisper. “Drew, last night . . . we . . .” She swallowed hard, looked down at her now empty coffee cup then back to him. “We didn’t use any protection.”

What the fuck? I never forget.
He could tell she was extremely concerned. Somehow the lack of a condom didn’t bother him quite as much, if at all.
Now that’s crazy.
He’d never pictured himself as a father and had always made sure to protect against it, yet her words didn’t inflict panic within him. A baby with Katherine actually sounded . . . nice. Her concerns needed to be addressed now, not his. “It was only once,” he said, trying to console her. By the expression on her face, those words were a bad choice.

Her eyes darkened, and her voice perked up, stating firmly, “It only takes once.”

Reaching for her hand, he said as calmly as he could, “What I meant is, it’s okay. We love each other, and if a baby is conceived from one heated night, then I’m okay with that.” He wasn’t sure she was.

Katherine pulled her hand from his and sat back, arms crossed against her chest as she glared at him. He knew she was searching for the truth in his words. Why wouldn’t she? They had never spoken about a future before, and his reputation was not one that would say “family man” anywhere. Prior to Katherine, the word
relationship
hadn’t been used either.

After a few minutes of silence, she seemed to relax. “You mean that, don’t you? It’s not something you’re saying just to appease me.”

Smiling, he said sincerely, “No, I’m not. I can’t speak for how you feel, but Katherine, you have found a way into my heart I didn’t realize existed. I’m not sure if there is anything you could tell me that would change that.”

What he thought would have eased her mind hadn’t. Instead, a serious look crossed her face.

“Drew, there is something we need to talk about.”

More than a possible pregnancy?
Whatever she had to say now should be a quick fix, and they could get back to enjoying their time together. It was almost time for her to head back to Napa Valley.
God, I don’t want her to leave.
Two weeks were not enough.
Only a lifetime would be enough.
How I want to steal her away from everything and everyone. Just the two of us on my private island.
She must be realizing that as well. “I know. Your vacation is almost over and we have only just begun.” His next words flowed from him without censorship. “Stay with me. Don’t go.” Her eyes widened as though she had expected him to say something else. He’d tried to show her how he felt; maybe he needed to step it up. Or was he rushing her? When Drew knew he wanted something, he never let anything or anyone get in his way. Shouldn’t he use the same tactics with a relationship? She said she loved him, and he didn’t doubt that for one moment, yet he could tell there was something holding her back.

“You want me to . . . stay longer?”

Does forever sound long enough?
“We have something good, really good, and I don’t want you cross-country.” That was about as noncommittal as he could get. No wonder she had doubts. “Unless there’s a reason you don’t want to stay?”

“It’s not that I don’t want to stay, Drew. I can’t picture myself as a city girl for long, but I don’t want to be away from you either.”

Smiling, he said, “Good, then it’s settled. You’ll stay.”

Katherine added, “I would love that, but there is something we still need to discuss first.”

Leaning back in his chair, he watched her. Whatever had been troubling her earlier hadn’t been resolved. Everything else had been fixed with a bit of communicating, what was one more?

“I’m listening.”

Taking a deep breath she began. “I know we both have a past.”

“I haven’t been a saint if that’s what you are getting at. But there hasn’t been anyone special if that’s what you want to know.”

She shook her head. “No, I really don’t want to know about your past conquests.”

Good, because you won’t think too highly of me.
It would be the truth, but an ugly one. He never considered himself a person who used others. It was purely a mutual satisfaction and nothing more. He couldn’t even remember names or give a count.
Yeah, I’m a real prize catch.
“So what do you want to know?”

“I wanted to talk to you to about me—my past.”

I don’t want to hear your details either.
Was there someone out there she still cared for? Was he still in the picture?
Whoever you are, she’s mine.
Drew was going to make it clear to him that Katherine was off limits. “I’m okay with leaving it all in the past, Katherine.”

“I wish it were so easy, but it’s not. It’s complicated, and if we don’t talk about it now before we get . . . more involved, then it will only be harder later.”

God, this can’t be good. Maybe she was married before.
If he let it, his mind could imagine many things he didn’t want her to say.
Guessing isn’t going to solve anything.
She was right, whatever it was, it was now eating at him to know. Might as well hear it now, so they could move forward. “You’ve got the floor. What’s on your mind?” For the first time in his life, his gut twisted in a knot, waiting.

“I wanted to talk to you about a man I dated a long time ago.”

“Are you still involved with him? Is he in your life now?” His voice was stern, but he hadn’t meant it to be.

Softly she answered him, “No. We were very close, a dear friend, one I could share all my thoughts, hopes, and dreams of the future with, and he did the same with me.”

Drew clenched his fist. He hated the guy already. Why? She said it was all in the past.
Because she is still thinking of him now. Damn it.

“I loved him very much, but we weren’t lovers.”

Thank God.
But still she shared a connection he had yet to understand and wasn’t totally sure he wanted to. There were some things best left unknown. “You don’t have to tell me. I get it. You cared for him and wanted me to understand. I do, but I think it’s best if we leave the details out.”

She twisted her hands nervously and said, “That’s the problem. We can’t ignore this. It could change everything. It could change how you feel about me.”

Impossible.
Maybe she had dated a real creep who was wanted for murder. Or had been abused and was ashamed. Or . . .
God, not knowing is killing me. What the fuck?
“Tell me.”
