Ishmael ben Elisha

Jewish sage. The son of a
priest
, Rabbi Ishmael was one of the chief spokesmen of the sages of
Jabneh
. According to legend, he was one of the
martyrs
who was killed in the persecutions following the
Bar
Kokhba rebellion, but this is doubtful.
