within the body, specifically in the ‘domain of
Brahman
’, the interior of the heart.

Daibosatsu
(Jap., ‘great bodhisattva’). The title of
Hachiman
understood as the incarnation of a great
bodhisattva
. Daibosatsu is, therefore, any bodhisattva
(Jap.,
bosatsu
) who has reached the stage (
futai
) of not falling back into a lower state, and who is thus assured of becoming a
buddha
. It is used as a title of respect for an outstanding monk.
Daibutsu
(Jap., ‘great Buddha’). Statues of
Buddhas
or
Bodhisattvas
exceeding a height of 4.8 metres and found throughout Asia.
