Hakkafot
(Heb., ‘circuits’). Jewish ceremonial circular processions. This practice is continued in the
synagogue
when the
Torah
scrolls
are carried round on
Sim
at Torah
. Hakkafot are also performed in some communities by brides encircling their husbands during the wedding ceremony, and round the coffin before the burial (see
CIRCUMAMBULATION
).
