O.k. all done I write these up while you dress” leaving her alone with her thoughts. How careful is Alan? Are there others girls he sleeps with? No he faithful she tells herself but not succeeding now that the doubt has entered her mind.

Feeling dazed and light-headed she heads out to her car in the light rain that started to fall
. Helen is feeling lost and empty inside. It feels like if it a missed opportunity slipping by her and she knows she being stupid she should be relived she scolds herself. A girls night out with Lynne and she will feel better she tells herself. She decides to walk home as she feels a little weak from giving blood and she skipped dinner in work as they were short staffed today and heading home but going home the long way and passing Alan’s flat. Should she go and see him? She thinks, she not even sure if he home and what if he not alone? He could have Rebecca there and she keeps walking pass and keeps heading home with her head down. He will think she some crazy possessive girlfriend if he sees her here and quickens her pace and heading home as fast as she can.

“Helen is that you?” shit he has seen her

“Wait there” he shouts from his window but Helen keeps walking, she needs to go home and get ready for Lynne. Helen sees him coming out of the side of his flat and running to her in the rain. Alan is soaked in seconds and she is surprised as she never even realized how much it was raining.

Are you o.k. Helen? Is something wrong? You soaked to the skin Helen, where the car? Come on baby I will get you a drink you look like you need one” guiding her into his flat he talking to her like a child she thinks.

It o.k. Alan I got to go home, I have got to go out soon with Lynne. I am only walking because I feel a little faint from the blood I give earlier” and pulling away from him, she needs to go out with Lynne if she goes in he not going to let her go home, she knows him, he never wants her to go home.

“It wasn’t a request Helen” lifting her in his arms as he carries her into his flat.

She soaked how she got so wet she thinks as he wraps his arms around her and slowly undressing her as soon as he shuts the door of his flat and coxing her out of her blouse and bra. Helen feels like she a child and remembers when her mother used to do this when she was sick.

“I get you a towel” walking
off to the bathroom and coming back with two towels. Wrapping a child’s one around her and encouraging Helen to sit on the settee that no-longer a bed. Alan stands and dries her hair from behind her.

So what wrong Helen?” he asks with concern in his voice

Sorry, it’s just a bad day I think I need to go” she wants to see Lynne

“I had a shitty day
too” he says and kissing her hair, so she back to the child with him she thinks

Where are you going tonight?”

“The Blacksmiths
, you know the nightclub in town, Lynne wants to go, have you been?”

“I will pick you up after, about
half past one outside and Helen please can you drink from a bottle and don’t let it out of your sight or someone could spike it” and he continues to dry her hair gently

O.k. Helen, all dry. So are you pregnant? Is that why you are upset Helen?” wishfully he asks her

“No Alan
I’ve had a test today so I am not pregnant, I know you want me to be but we not ready. It’s just been a shit of a day Alan and I just ended up here” she says a little frustrated with his need for a child

Sorry Alan, but we hardly know each other” are you faithful to me or do you have others in your life? She adds in her head

Sorry Helen, they more likely to give a man full custody in a strong relationship. Helen I do love you but I love Rebecca more” he says truthfully, so he wants a happy ever after with her playing mum to a child she hasn’t even met yet Helen thinks shocked.

Shit Alan, getting me pregnant won’t make us a strong relationship, they will just think rebound and I am, aren’t I?” frustrated that he feels she the child when the truth was he was.

No Helen, you not and don’t be so stupid I never felt like this not even with Ali” and kissing Helen on her lips to make his point

“I love you and only you” and he deepens the kiss. Helen wrapping the towel tighter around her
body, she going out she scolds herself as she returns his kiss but pulling away from him

No Alan, I am going out tonight” she whispers but the need for him getting the better of her.

O.k. Helen I will drive you home” and laughing at her as he lets her go

“I get you a shirt for you to borrow and you can give me your keys
, I will get your car later” he says going over to his cupboard and getting Helen a shirt out.

“The keys are in my bag” and slipping into
his large shirt. Alan opens her bag up and all the leaflets the nurse gave her fall to the floor.

What are these?” he says as he picks them up from the floor

The nurse she gave them to me today”

There no need for these Helen” and dropping them in the bin noisily.

“I am always careful Helen”

“Alan you not with me, that why I had to have a test remember?”

O.k. Helen, sorry no more trying to get you pregnant not until you ready, I promise” and holding his hands up in defeat.

We can talk later and tell your parents you are staying tonight” and gently kissing her on the lips

Come on we better go, or I will have to give in and make love to you, I’m having withdrawal symptoms from you Helen”

Helen was not having a great night like she hoped. Lynne was living in the toilets and Helen stayed in the corner of the nightclub. The music was too loud and there was no space to move. What was Lynne doing in the toilets, was she sick? Helen watches Lynne coming back out and grabbing the guy she been glued to when not in the toilets. A man named Smugs. He has tattoos all over him and Helen wasn’t sure what colour he was. If she had to guess she say he was green or red and he had piercing in his nose and lips.

Helen didn’t want to judge a man she didn’t know but he scared her and his friends were just as scary as they blocked her into the corner with their stares. It was only ten o’clock, but she wanted to go home. Lynne been drinking water all night and Helen was keeping safe, and she was only drinking juice from a bottle
.

Can I borrow your coat? Hel Smugs and I are going out, I will see you later” and picking up Helen’s coat from the floor

“Lynne
, don’t leave me here with his mates” she pleads as Lynne walks off with Smugs

“It just will be quick shag and we will be back, you are such a baby
. A good fuck will loosen you up Helen, I am sure one of his mates could help with that. Here you can have some of this” and handing Helen a small packet of white powder.

Shush Helen I will be back before Alan comes” and she leaves with Smugs

Nearly two hours have gone by and Lynne still wasn’t back. And one of Smugs friends moves
in closer to her, he has been trying to get Helen to have a drink with him as soon as Lynne left. She given up saying no and accepted a beer of him but going straight into the toilets and poring it down the sink. She didn’t trust him; it was the way he looked at her.

You should be ready to fuck me now and especially after the Roofie, you just drank” and pulling Helen towards the exit.

“Piss off
, I tipped it out you pig” and pulling away from his grip. Grabbing Helen and throwing her over his shoulder and marching her towards the exit. Struggling she falls with a sickening thud to the dance floor as the crowd grows around them, entertained by the show.

“I said P
iss off you prick” she screams at him and he starts to kick her on the ground before him, Helen starts screaming as the kicks hits her hard, she can feel her arm break as his foot makes contact. He continues kicking and laughing at her as each bow hits her hard. And curling her arms around herself, to try and protect her from his assault.

“F
ucking, get him” a man calls out from the crowd and the men crowd around her attacker. A woman bends down and helps Helen onto her feet.

Come on honey” she says as she coxes Helen to her feet.

Helen is in the office at the nightclub waiting for the police. She just wanted to go home. She just wanted Alan arms around her, she tried to phone him from the office but she got no reply. She needs to go to the restroom she thinks; she still had the white powder from Lynne, what if they searched her? And where was Lynne? It was nearly one now and Alan would be here soon.

Could I check your arm please” a kind looking man and about the same age as Helen, with brown eyes and soft wavy brown hair. Helen instantly felt safe in his company.

It’s o.k. I’m a doctor, in training anyway” he says smiling at Helen and lifting Helen arm

“Ow
it hurts” she winces as he examines her arm

“I think it’s broken, have you got anyone picking you up
? As you should go and have an x-ray”

My boyfriend said he be outside at half past”

We are going to wait outside. Tell the police to meet us at the hospital if they need to or call us at home, you got our addresses” he says to the manager and leading Helen outside

There still no sign of Lynne or Alan
. It now nearly two and he waits with her. He gently puts his jacket around her shoulders. Helen is feeling foolish and sore as she waits. Her arm ached and her side where she fell was burning hot from the pain.

Give me the number and I go and phone again, if there is still no answer I’m taking you to hospital because I don’t like the colour your arm is going” she gives him Alan number as the doctor in training walks back into the nightclub

He not gone long but he shakes his head when he comes back.

“Sorry, it must be a wrong number some woman answered” he says shrugging

Tears springs into her eyes as she hears that Alan was with someone else.
Helen’s soft tears grow into painful shuddering sobs. How was she going to get into her house? He got her keys and shaking loud tears and his arms gently go around her

God I’m such an idiot, sorry the selfless prick, come on I will take you to the hospital. I could have dialled the wrong number, you know it is dark in there you can try later, come on” and he leads Helen to the car park.

He helps her into his car and she feels numb with the shock. She shaking, he said he loved her and now he was with someone else, she knew she gave the right number but perhaps the doctor did dial the wrong number
? But deep down she knew he was with someone else.

Talk to me, I think you may be in shock. I’m Phillip Taylor, what your name?” he says quietly

It’s Helen Evans, my bag? I’ve lost it” the confusion setting in

Did you know that guy?”

No, my friend went off with his friend. He said he put something in my drink, I am so glad I poured it down the sink now. Do you think you might have dialled the wrong number?”

No Helen I rang the number twice and he grabbed the phone the second time. Sorry but he is a prick and you need to start thinking of better friends too, a good friend would never have left you with that man” she hears his anger in his voice

Don’t go to sleep, keep talking to me Helen did you have any alcohol to drink?”

No I drank juice from a bottle but my friend gave me something but I left it in my bag what if they find it?” she thinks sleepily out loud

What did it look like? And did you take any?”

“It was a white powder and no I don’t do drugs
, what if they find my bag? And how am I going to get home, Alan got my car and house keys and I don’t want to face my mum yet” her tears start to fall again but she feels safe here with Phillip. And she starts to go to sleep.

“HELEN keep talking don’t go to sleep yet, we nearly there honey
, how old are you? Where do you work?”

“I’m nineteen
. How old are you?”

“I’m twenty-two, keep talking Helen…” but she slips into sleep
