Chapter 1

Julie

"You look happy today." Martha said, walking to me from the corner of the club. I was washing my oily hands after massaging one of my clients.

"I'm not," I said, trying to hide my grin. She was right, it wasn't a normal boring day for me in the health club. I had a secret in my heart, which I was dying to share with someone.

"Come on. You're practically blushing right now. I never saw that much pink on your face, ever."

"I'm going...nothing, just forget it. Actually, I'm just planning something...um..."

I bit my lip. I couldn't tell her about my plans. But part of me longed for her to dig more. I was dying to share the news with someone. I was on the fence, and I just wanted someone to say yes.

"You ought to tell me. I'm your friend. Don't you dare hide something from me!" Martha insisted.

Martha wasn't my best friend. She was the gossip queen in the health club I worked at, so telling her would mean announcing it to everyone. The news would travel faster than the speed of light. But I was itching to share because it was the best news I had in decades. I just couldn't let it slide.

"Meet me for coffee exactly in a half hour. Let me clear my cabin. I'll come to the cafeteria straight after."

I had my own cabin now. Last month I qualified for the elite trainer category, and I was given a masseuses cabin for my therapy sessions. A feeling of pride was associated with the elite trainer category and I carried that with me every day.

"Roger that. And you are going to pay for our coffee, because you're the happy one. Remember, the happy one pays." Martha winked and walked away. She was always like that, ready to jump on anything free that she could get her hands on.

I sighed and walked to my messy cabin.

I saw Martha walking towards me through the array of wooden chairs. The cafeteria we were sitting in was recently acquired by the health club I worked in, but they kept the old wooden look of cafeteria intact.

I knew she must have ordered the quantity equivalent to her dinner, because I was paying. But I ignored it because I was too thrilled to pay attention to such things.

"I will propose to Eddie tonight." I sputtered out the news. I was holding onto it for so long, I feared that my chest would burst. I had been planning it for months now, and as the moment drew closer, I was getting more and more impatient.

"What?" Martha's eyes widened. "Wow, you're proposing to Eddie! That's big news." I knew she must be getting impatient to tell it to all the common friends .

"Yes, tonight."

"How?" she asked.

"I will buy a bottle of champagne, and then when I get home, I'll cook his favorite dinner. Glazed Country Ribs with extra cheese. I'll play his favorite tune on my iPod, and then I will bend down on my knees and ask him to be mine forever." In my mind, I could already see it happening. I knew once I did this, he would say yes, and I'd put the ring on his finger. I wished for the evening to come early.

"How romantic. I wish I could see it with my own eyes. Anyway, how long have you been together?" she asked.

"Almost three years now. I met him in college."

"So college love story, finally coming to a happy end." Martha's order came, and as I suspected she'd ordered a max jumbo burger with loads of French fries and a chilled coke.

"Yes. We never discussed this, but I plan to have three children, at least." A grin covered my face. I'd been thinking about this for a long time, and today was the day I set the plan in motion.

"What's so special about today?"

"It's the day we met for the first time, in one of those boring classes of physio-therapy." I closed my eyes, to relive watching him enter my class. He wore those nerdy glasses that were out of fashion at the time. On top of that he wore a full sleeve tee and formal trousers. He looked like Sheldon from the famous nerdy TV show. Actually way cuter than Sheldon.

"But why you? I don't understand why you're proposing to him. Shouldn't he be the one doing it? The man should always take the lead, if you ask me." She took another large bite of her burger.

Martha was really irritating me with that burger."It's not like it's written in stone. I have seen girls proposing to men," I defended.

"Yes, it happens sometime. But I thought you'd give Eddie a chance to be the man." She gave me a fake smile. I knew she'd be adding spice to the whole story when she told it to others. But I couldn't care less.

"You can say I'm the man in the relationship." Eddie was little shy. He didn't even talk to me in our first class together. But he was too adorable to avoid, a cutie with nerdy glasses. Many of my friends wanted to put a marker on him, but I succeeded.

"I bet you are." Martha giggled.

I knew she remarked on my appeal. Many girls in the health club called me manly, only because I lacked some common things girls loved, like lipstick, makeup and curves. But I loved my work, and I was good at it. That's why those girls remained laughing while I was promoted to Elite Rank at the club in less than a year.

"I think I should leave. I better get to my apartment and arrange everything." I wanted to show her the ring, but I decided not to. She was a jerk, and I was already regretting talking with her.

Come on, Julie. Cheer up. None of this will matter once Eddie says yes.

"Please pay the bill. I don't have my wallet with me right now." Martha took another bite of her large burger.

"Sure." I didn't want to pay for her dinner, but I did anyways. I didn't want to start my happy evening on a bad note.

"Thanks, and all the best." She flashed me a fake smile.

I felt proud when I took out the ring box from my pocket while I walked to the taxi stand. I'd spent thirteen hundred dollars on the ring, and I was damn sure that it would look good on Eddie's finger.

I caught the first taxi and told the driver my address. If I could, I would have flown to my home, but they haven't invented flying cabs yet.

He'll like this. He is definitely gonna like this.

I felt nervous when I thought about what Eddie's reaction would be. Would he be angry at me? He didn't like surprises. He even complained when I bought him surprise gifts on his birthday. But this surprise wasn't a birthday gift.

I should focus on what should I say when I go on my knees.

"Eddie, this is a thirteen hundred dollar ring, and I have sacrificed my savings on this. So please accept it."

It sounded so funny when I thought about it that way. But I didn't think about what I would say when I proposed.

Damn, shall I go on one knee, or not? I will just ask him plain and simple.

Yes, plain and simple sounded good. Going on my knees was a shitty idea. He would freak out if I did that. I just needed to prepare dinner, make him feel nice and cozy, and when the timing was right, I'd ask him if he would marry me. How simple and nice. I giggled.

"Come on, taxi, get me there fast," I mumbled. The taxi driver was taking a lot of time to reach my apartment.

"Hey lady, don't worry, he's going to say yes." The driver looked at me through the mirror and smiled.

"Thanks." Even the taxi driver noticed that I was going to propose to someone. How foolish was I?

My heart was racing faster with every step I took up to my floor. I could have used the lift, but I chose the stairs instead.

I would've never thought I would propose to Eddie. When I was small, I always thought that my prince charming would come on a white horse to take me with him. Eddie was my prince charming, but it was me who would take him along with me. Just a reversal of the role. Nothing unusual.

I smiled as I thought about the scenario. But my hand was shivering when I put the keys in the hole. I stopped for a moment and took a deep breath. I needed all my courage to do this. Thank God, Eddie was on a business tour and wouldn't be coming back before eight. I would have just enough time to prepare.

I should have practiced this with someone.

I heard some weird sound when I opened the door. Like someone was crying. It was coming from Eddie.
What is happening to him? Is he all right?

My heart sunk with all the possibilities. I ran towards our bedroom, freezing when I came to the door.

Eddie was laying on his stomach, completely naked and tied by four ropes to the corners of the bed. And a bulky hulk kind of person was fucking him. He was almost six feet tall, and spread horizontally. His body spread fear in my mind.

I took a moment to understand what was happening. That man was raping Eddie.

"Please!" Eddie cried. He was in pain, I could see the veins popping out on the back of his neck.

"Fuck!" I shouted out loud. I didn't know what to do.

That man turned when he heard me, his cock came out of Eddie's ass. Eddie turned his head. When he looked into my eyes, I could see the fear that man induced in my Eddie.

"Julie, please." Eddie begged.

Something burned inside me. That man had assaulted Eddie, the love of my life. God, I wanted to kill him.

I looked at him. He was twice my size. But I didn't care, I charged and lifted my knee up to hit him on his mouth. When my knee landed on his chest, he stumbled backwards from my surprise attack. I jumped on his chest and hit his neck with a vertical hand, very hard. I knew it would knock him out for at least an hour. I had learned Martial Art's techniques very well when I was a child, and I built up on the training when I joined college.

That hit did the trick, and the bastard got knocked out easily. I checked his pulse, but it was steady.

"Eddie, my baby!" I ran to untie him. He was crying loudly. When I untied him, I held him tightly to my chest.

"I'm so sorry, baby." Tears flowed through my eyes. I felt horrible for him.

"Why did you do that?" Eddie wept.

"Don't worry, baby. He's out. We will call the cops and get him arrested. Don't worry. I'm with you."

"Why did you hit him, Julie?" Eddie shouted.

"What?" I held him at an arm's length. "What do you mean? He was raping you, and you are asking me why I hit him? Do you mean why didn't I kill him?"

"No, why did you hit him? He was just doing what I asked!"

"What?" I let him go and jumped backwards, away from the bed. "What did you say, Eddie? Did you ask him to fuck you that way?"

"Yes. He's a male escort. I called him to fuck me."

"Have you gone mad?" I asked. I couldn't believe him.

"No. I've been trying to tell you forever, but I couldn't. I'm gay, Julie. I'm so sorry."
