Chapter 36

Elijah hurried along the corridor to Mickey’s office and was oblivious to the stares coming from the glass fronted offices. Mickey didn’t usually have visitors so their nosiness was at a peak.

Elijah arrived at Mickey’s office door and walked right in, it was only when he saw Mickey on the phone that he realised he should have knocked or called to say he had arrived. There wasn’t an outer office for him and he didn’t think.

“Stop stressing Elijah and take a seat, I’m just finishing up.” Mickey said with his hand over the mouthpiece.

Elijah nodded to him and instinctively moved to the furthest part of the office to give him as much privacy as possible. He suddenly had an interest in law books and took one out to read, flicking through the pages of criminal fraud he got involved with a case from the 1920s.

“The plaintive lost that case, sorry to spoil the ending.” Mickey said over Elijah’s shoulder.

“Oh Mickey, I was getting into that case, it sounded interesting.” Elijah said.

Mickey put the book back while Elijah stepped over to a chair in front of Mickey’s desk and sank down into the leather chair. He hummed tunelessly and stared into space and it was only Mickey coughing that brought him back to the present.

“What’s on your mind Elijah, tell Uncle Mickey all about it.”

“I fucked up.” Elijah said.

“Well this, I know, what have you done in particular?” Mickey asked.

“I had the perfect opportunity to tell Lilly everything and I bolted. I just don’t know how to tell her.” Elijah said.

“There is nothing wrong with being adopted, you knew who your birth parents were and what happened to them, so what is the issue?” Mickey said.

“What if we decide to have children and she wants to know about the family history. What if our kids want to trace their family tree?” Elijah said.

“These are your concerns? Seriously dude you need to get over yourself, I thought you were stressing about the other thing.” Mickey said.

“Well I am stressing about that but am trying to ignore it and channelling all my worry into the adoption thing instead.” Elijah said.

“You’re being ridiculous and you know it, she’s besotted with you and you need to man up and tell her. She’ll accept you for who you are. Now let’s move on to William, what are we going to do about him?” Mickey asked.

“I think we need to tread carefully with him, he needs help as well as a good hiding. I’ve a plan that should work. I’m pretty sure he’s either following her or is tracking her. If we can set something up then I think everyone will be happy.” Elijah said.

“All right, spill your ludicrous plan, I’ll fill in all the loopholes and you can sod off and go and make up with your girl. She’ll get snapped up if you hang around any longer.” Mickey advised.

Elijah talked Mickey through the plan and Mickey laughed for most of it but got the basics. He kicked him out of his office and Elijah had no choice but to head over to Lilly’s place to grovel.

He hoped that he wasn’t too late.

Chapter 37

Lilly paced back and forth in her morning room, she was too distracted to paint more of Elizabeth’s portrait. Elizabeth gazed back at her, almost screaming advice to her, but she couldn’t think what it might be. The wooden floor beneath her bare feet felt cool and it helped focus her. She needed to speak to Elijah but didn’t know how to approach him. She’d successfully avoided him for days. The incessant ringing of her phone and hammering at her door drove her mad.

She needed time to think, in her heart she knew she loved Elijah but she didn’t like his quick temper. Her rational thoughts led her to understand that whatever he had to tell her must be difficult. It didn’t excuse the ugliness that came out of him when she asked a simple question.

Jack and Olivia’s question came to mind a few times over the last couple of days. They had warned her that if she wasn’t all in then walk away. Walking away was not an option for her so she needed to talk things through with him and see what happened next.

The connection between their families intrigued her and for a passing moment she hoped that there were not any blood links between the two. If her mother did have a fling with Elijah’s dad when they were younger maybe they did have a child. She needed to find out and also needed to talk to Elijah about it. Maybe he already knew.

Her pacing ceased the moment she heard the intercom buzz in her apartment. Her heart raced and she hoped that it was Elijah. Hurrying through the morning room and out into her living room, she picked up the receiver and prayed it was him.

“Hello.” She said.

“Will you please let me in this time?” Elijah spoke back.

She didn’t hesitate and pressed the button that opened the door release. She looked in the nearest mirror and pinched her cheeks to add colour and fluffed her hair. There was no time for anything else. He had seen her at her worst in hospital, she assumed she looked a damn sight better than that. The thumping on the door made her jolt out of her vanity and she hurried across the room to her door.

Opening the door, she looked into his green eyes and smiled. She had missed him so much. Standing on tiptoe, she wrapped her arms around his neck and hugged him hard. Nestling her face into his neck she breathed in his aroma and it comforted her. Lilly could have stood there in the doorway wrapped in his arms all day.

“Are you going to let me in or shall we have this conversation for the entire corridor to hear?” Elijah whispered into Lilly’s hair.

“I want to stay here, I’m comfy.” Lilly said.

Elijah chuckled and took a stronger hold of Lilly and lifted her up so that he could move them from the doorway. Once they were a few steps into her home and he had kicked the door shut he released her from his grip and set her down. He cupped her cheeks and simply stared into her eyes. He barely blinked as he tried to read Lilly’s mind, he tried to work out what she was thinking and how she was feeling. It was a coward’s way of finding out, he needed to ask her and find out the hard way.

“Elijah let me go so that we can sit down and talk. I’m ready to hear what you have to say to me.” Lilly said.

“Thank God for that, because if you didn’t want to listen, it would break my heart. I hope you’re ready.” Elijah said.

“Shall I make us some coffee?” Lilly suggested.

“No, well maybe later, I need to tell you and coffee will only delay things and then there is a possibility that I will back out or we will get interrupted.” Elijah said.

Lilly took his hand in hers and took them through to the morning room. She sat down on the sofa and left Elijah standing. He seemed lost for a moment and she didn’t want to push him. She would wait as long as he wanted her to. Elijah moved across the room to Elizabeth’s painting and fiddled with the pendant, turning it repeatedly in his hand. It felt heavy to him, not the delicate thing he thought it would be.

“You haven’t met my parents, but you will at the wedding, they are the most-amazing parents I could wish for. I didn’t meet them until I was five years old. Jack and my parents are my adopted family. Jack is not their child either, we were adopted at the same time. My adopted father had an accident that meant that he was sterile, and couldn’t have children. My adopted mum loved him anyway and was thrilled that he would adopt children and that is when Jack and I found our new home. Jack and I are not blood related either.” Elijah said.

Lilly was perfectly still on the sofa, watching Elijah stare out of the window. He had his hands in his pockets and seemed lost in thought.

“I remember meeting them,” he said and laughed humourlessly, “I was so confused, my birth mother was there one day and gone the next. She took her own life, not wanting to live anymore, I never did find out why. Then I was taken to my new home and never looked back. I don’t remember too much of the first five years of my life, who does?” Elijah said.

Elijah moved to sit next to Lilly and took her hand in his and held on tight. He shifted so that he could see her whole face, he braced himself for the next part.

“Growing up with Jack and two loving parents, I wanted the same for my life, I wanted to fall in love and have children of my own.” Elijah said.

“There is nothing wrong with that Elijah, what is it that is so difficult to tell me, are you ill?” Lilly asked.

“No, sweetheart, I’m not ill. In order to make sure I got my wish, I waited for the right woman to share my life with. That’s you Lilly, I want to spend my life with you.” Elijah said.

“I want to spend my life with you too Elijah but I still don’t understand.” Lilly said.

Elijah took a deep breath and let it out through his nose, it was now or never.

“I’m on old fashioned kind of guy and didn’t want to risk starting a family with anyone other than the one I loved more than anything. To make sure that didn’t happen, I didn’t have sex.” Elijah said and waited for a reaction from Lilly.

“You’re a virgin?” Lilly whispered and grinned up at Elijah.

“Yeah, I’m a virgin, I’ve never had sex before.” Elijah confessed.

“But what about what we have done so far, you are pretty talented Elijah.” Lilly said.

“I never said that I’d not been with women, I wasn’t a monk, just wasn’t willing to go all the way with anyone, that is until I met you. We kept on being interrupted and I took that as a sign and when there was no chance of being interrupted and you asked me to make love to you I panicked. It was too much pressure.” Elijah said.

“I’m sorry that I put you in such a position, you should’ve told me earlier Elijah, I would’ve understood. Is that why your brother remarked about the gift?” Lilly asked.

“I know that now, which is why I’m here. I feel a little foolish though, a grown man not having had sex before but I wanted what my parents have. I feel ridiculous at calling it a gift but it is to me.” Elijah said.

“Can I ask you something about your parents, your adopted parents?” Lilly asked.

“Of course, ask away, I need a little distraction.” Elijah said.

Lilly pecked his lips several times until he started to respond, he kissed her back slowly and with a dark intensity that took her breath away. She had managed to distract him and pulled out of his kiss.

“Did you know that my parents and your parents went to school with each other?”

“Yeah, I found out recently, it really spooked me that this is such a small world. I think my dad and your mum had a thing when they were younger, but it didn’t last. I was worried for a short time that we were related but then remembered that Dad’s condition was from a small child. Mickey set me straight on that one, but there is a buried secret there that he hasn’t uncovered yet.” Elijah said.

“Oh, thank God for that as I was getting worried too, I was at my parents place this afternoon and my Aunt Jane was there. She also went to school with your parents and Aunt Jane and my mum had a weird conversation that they were clearly speaking about a past bitterness.” Lilly said.

“Interesting that your Aunt is here, she’s coming to the wedding isn’t she?” Elijah said.

“Maybe, she said that she might not as she doesn’t want to open old wounds, there seems to be some hurt buried in the past that maybe should stay there.” Lilly said.

“Probably, now Lillian Harrison, are you ready to pop my cherry?” Elijah asked with a serious tone reserved for judges.

Lilly’s head whipped around to face Elijah, she felt thrilled that she would be the one. The honour of taking someone’s virginity was a daunting prospect, she thought that she would let him down. She didn’t know anyone who had a really good experience when it came to first time sex. Jumping up from the sofa, she went to Elizabeth’s picture and silently asked for the courage.

Turning around on the spot, she grabbed the edge of her jumper and took it off, and nodded towards Elijah in silent agreement. She had lost her voice and was nervous as hell. She was impatient to get the first time over with to concentrate on the second time. This wasn’t her choice or pace, it was Elijah’s, she would take his lead.

Getting to his feet and within four strides towards Lilly and his mouth was on hers, hungrily kissing her. Elijah and Lilly removed their own clothing as they kissed, they had a silent race to who could be naked first. Elijah won, only because he had fewer clothes to take off.

He heard a squeak as he lifted her off the floor and carried her vertical to the sofa and pushed her body down. Bouncing on the soft sofa cushions made her breasts bounce too and that made him hard. Her eyes never left his as he gently lay on top of her. He was ready to give Lilly his gift.

He pushed his cock slowing in, little by little as he continued to explore her mouth with a searing kiss. The further he pushed in the further Lilly’s mouth opened and he could kiss her more deeply. Once he was all the way in as far as he could go he started to pull out. His hips moving up and down casually as he built her orgasm. In and out he went, adding a hard thrust when he felt her quiver. He didn’t speed up but did use more force behind his thrust. Lilly had started to whimper into his mouth but still he kissed her as he made love to her. For the first time, he wasn’t going to fuck her hard no matter how much she begged him. She was pleading with him to move faster and harder, but he ignored her pleas. He was going to be selfish the first time and he was going to take his time making her come.

As she started to tighten around him, his thrusts became shortened but harder, gaining friction and building Lilly higher. It took them both by surprise when she tipped over with a single yell and then her open-mouthed, silent scream was all he could feel. He stopped trying to kiss her as her body tensed and she enjoyed the orgasm coursing through her. The tight grip on his cock nearly made him lose it, but he wanted her to come again before he did.

Releasing his arms from her body, he lifted his chest off her and pushed deeper into Lilly. Concentrating on listening to her breathing, Elijah dropped his head and took one of her hardened nipples into his mouth, sucking hard. Lilly’s gasp of pleasure was only just audible, but her back arched and her breasts pressed into his mouth, greedily wanting more. Tightening her legs around his waist she pulled him deeper into her, raising her hips off the sofa she met his increasingly hard thrusts. Their bodies’ slick with sweat crashed against each other, Elijah needed to concentrate and buried his head in Lilly’s neck as he pounded into her. Their gasps and moans coming in unison as they both climbed to their release.

Lilly tipped over a second time, wave after wave cascading down Elijah’s cock, seizing hold of him. Unrelenting spasms that sent him leaping over the edge of his orgasm and he spilled into her. His momentum was so great he kept thrusting into her, three more times until he stayed deep inside her as he emptied all of him into Lilly.

He rolled them so that she lay panting on his rising and falling chest, her legs astride him and they were still joined. They lay in silence as their breathing became more manageable.

“You feel amazing Lilly, I can still feel your lazy aftershocks, it's making me twitch inside you. Never move from where you are right now.” Elijah said.

“I don’t think I could, you are a pretty intense lover Elijah. For a first time lover, you were spectacular. I’ve never had a man make me come twice in one evening before. I think I could become addicted to that.” Lilly said.

“You’re already my addiction, you became my favourite addiction the first time you came into Blue’s for lunch. I have been addicted ever since.” Elijah told her.

Elijah was bursting with happiness, he had made love for the first time with the woman he loved and adored. It was daylight, he was naked, she knew everything about him and she still wanted him. It was enough to make him want to come again.
