âThanks for helping,' Eva said to Heidi.
âIt's OK.' Heidi slipped an arm through Eva's.
âDo you want to come with me?' Dad asked. âShan's given me the address of the charity shop that wants them, but you could help navigate?'
Eva shook her head. âNo, if you don't mind, I'll stay here. Jamie gets home today and we want to take him to the lodge to show him everything now it's finished.'
Dad nodded slowly. âYes, but it might be better to wait a day or two. He might prefer to spend his first day back with his mum and dad. They have a lot of catching up to do.'
âWell, we'll wait,' Eva said. âWe'll wait until he's ready. We'll always be here for him, like the stars.'

Elen Caldecott graduated with an MA in Writing for Young People from Bath Spa University. Before becoming a writer, she was an archaeologist, a nurse, a theatre usher and a museum security guard. It was while working at the museum that Elen realised there is a way to steal anything if you think about it hard enough. Elen either had to become a master thief, or create some characters to do it for her â and so her debut novel,
How Kirsty Jenkins Stole the Elephant
, was born. It was shortlisted for the Waterstones Children's Prize and was followed by
How Ali Ferguson Saved Houdini
and
Operation Eiffel Tower
. Elen lives in Bristol with her husband, Simon, and their dog.
