AUTHOR’S NOTE

A note on the murder of the MacKay chief.
According to history, two MacKay cheiftans—father and son—were murdered by a laird of a junior branch of the Sutherland clan at Dingwall Castle. However, this happened around 1371. For the purposes of my story, I used creative license to move the date by nearly 100 years.

A note on Pluscarden Abbey:
This abbey is real, and was built in the early 1200’s. It is known to have been attacked around the time of my novel by the English, but for the sake of fiction, I made it the Ross clan.
