“Nope, he should have—”

Her words were cut off by the sound of protesting. “No, no,
no,
” we could recognize Juan’s voice anywhere.

“I’m just trying to help you out of the train kid.” The man told him opening the car to the train.

“What’s wrong Juan?” Alyssa asked quickly making her way to the front of the car.

“He’s a stranger…” Juan whispered up to her, still holding Cedrick’s hand.

Alyssa nodded, “He’s the bus driver Juan, but you’re right he
is
a stranger.” She commended hopping onto the ground.

“We’ll take them down,” I said as I got out helping her put each one of them on the pavement, watching them line up and wait for us to finish.

Once Chance was sure everyone was set she
then
gave the shuttle bus driver her attention, “You should really make sure someone
wants
to be touched before you attempt to.”

“Whatever you say ma’am,” he conceded, but the smile didn’t reach his eyes and I could kind of see how Juan would feel uncomfortable.

The guy came off as unnerving, the way he watched Chance lead the kids over to the bus, his eyes lingering at her ass as she walked. “Shouldn’t you be opening the bus.” I cautioned.

The driver smirked at me and shrugged, before running ahead to let the kids on to get their lunches.

“Mommy!” Juan burst sprinting towards the picnic tables with Cedrick and the others running behind him, and like always, he rammed straight into her legs.

“Hey handsome!” Tawny gushed picking him up and kissing his cheek before putting him back down to go sit at the picnic table with his friends.

Chance, Tawny and I sat off to the side with the other chaperones watching them watch the some outside stage play production about science as they ate.

“How’s it going so far?” Doc asked eating her tuna sandwich.

Chance shrugged drinking her water. “Juan is having fun.”

“And she is having fun, watching him have fun.” I added eating my chips. “How’s the face painting going?”

Tawny shrugged, “It’s going pretty good, you guys haven’t stopped by yet, though.”

“We were going to make that stop after lunch.” Alyssa promised with a grin. “There’s alotta shit out here.”

“Isn’t some of this stuff is a little advanced though?” I thought, aloud taking a swig of my soda. “Juan’s only four.”

Doc grinned, “This is a
magnet
school Adrian. We can thank Tink for all of those programs she made because Juan was more than ready to attend, and he’s keeping up with no problem.”

Juan ran to the end of the table to see us when he was done. "I have to go to the bathroom, Mommy," he whispered in Doc’s ear.

"Okay," Doc whispered back trying to hide her smile.

"Bathroom break it is. I’ll take them.” I volunteered.

“They probably all have to go by now.” Chance guessed. “I’ll take the girls you get the boys.”

“Thanks, I need to get back to work if I am going to get every kid.” Doc stretched before grabbing her apron.

“We’ll meet back up at the train stop when we’re done.” Chance thought, gathering the girls up and waving to the other chaperones who were also packing up their kids.

I escorted the boys passing Mrs. Flowers on the way. "Heading to the restroom?" she guessed with a warm smile, and I nodded. "Well the boys bathroom is on the opposite side. You might want to go in with them, the restrooms have two entrances so it’s easy to get turned around.”

"Will do," I chuckled, leading them to the end of the fields.

Kyle, the little red head kid looked up at me. “Mr. Adrian, when we’re done can we get our faces painted?”

“Sure thing buddy,” I nodded holding the door open for the boys. “ Mrs. De Luca’s is the next stop on our list.” I heard the door open behind me, but I knew it was probably another family.

Mrs. Flowers was right, the bathroom was fucking huge. One door led to the café and indoor food court that connected to the expedition, and the other back to the field and the parking lot.

Lucky for us the bathroom wasn’t crowded, because all seven boys ran to stalls like it was an emergency. I relieved my own bladder in the urinal while I waited for them to come back out.

“Alright guys let’s wash our hands and buddy back up.” I commanded helping them all reach the soap pump. I saw the quick movement from the corner of my ey

I heard the kids scream before everything went black.

Chapter 4- Violent Storm

“You and Adrian are quite the hit.” Barbra, the head of the RMA commended as we waited on the train. “The kids are actually
listening
to you.”

I smiled at her backhanded compliment, “They’re good kids.” I tried my best to keep the sarcasm out of my voice, because I knew the Room Mothers Association was important to Doc.

She continued on, completely oblivious, “I mean I was a bit skeptical at first when Tawny volunteered you two since you didn’t have children that attended the school, but I have to say I am shocked.”

“I can tell.” I grinned pulling out my phone trying to save myself. “Excuse me, I have to make a call.”

“Hey Chance, how’s Saturday with the kids?” Kristen asked picking up the phone. All of the girls had gone to the bathroom, and we were waiting at the train stop for Adrian and the boys to join us. “Macon and Ross called, they’re on their way.”

Ross wanted to be here for Juan’s field trip, but Macon and she had a case they had to finish up before they could, she promised to meet us up here a little after lunch time. “Well Juan is in my group so just have her call my cell when she gets here.”

"How many licks does it take to get to the center of a Tootsie Pop?" Tink asked picking up another line.

"Tink," I sighed.

"No seriously. I'm actually running this experiment," she giggled, but I could hear her crunching on the other end.

"It won't work if you bite into it, Imp," I snorted.

"Oh, yeah, damn," she sighed, tsking  herself. "Oh well, what are you calling for?"

“Bored, just thought I’d check in,” I admitted.

I could hear Kristen scoffing in the background after she put me on speaker. “Stop working and enjoy the damn field trip.”

Tink just laughed. “I can’t believe Adrian is even letting you on the phone right now. Where is he? Put him on.”

"He took the boys to the restroom, so I’m waiting fo

Taylor, the little blonde boy with a lisp came running out by himself to us. “
Miss Alyssas! Helps
!”

“What’s going on?” Barbra wondered looking at the door. “Where is his buddy?”

I kneeled in front of him, “What’s wrong Taylor?”

“Mr.
Adrians
is on the grounds! He needs helps!” He panted tired from the run.

I immediately went into control mode. “Barbra, watch them until I get back. Tink and Kristen I need you two on the line something’s up.”

I didn’t wait for Barbra to answer me, instead sprinting to Adrian’s Charger to get his gun out of the glove compartment. I secured it in the small of my back before hauling ass to the men’s restroom.

When I broke through the small crowd in the bathroom  I was greeted by Kevin, one of the male chaperons on the trip. "Alyssa...we were just about to go find you... We just found him this way"

I didn't wait for him to finish, but brushed past him, to Adrian on the floor. “Go get Doc.” I ordered. Then realized that no one would understand that. “Tawny, go get Tawny De Luca!” I demanded, tilting his head back, but keeping my phone at my ear. I tried a few gentle strokes, but when he didn’t respond I resorted to a few taps at the base of his jaw. "Baby, wake up... Come on…"

My boyfriend squeezed his eyes closed, and then finally squinted up at me. When my hand came out from behind his head, my fingers were covered in blood. If there were an accident, Juan would have came to find me himself. This was something intentional. Juan.

"Baby, where's Juan? And Cedrick?" I asked him, looking around seeing the other five boys standing around him.

Kyle, the red head answered, “The men took them!”

"Oh fuck!" he groaned, trying to sit up, but blanched when he got about halfway. "Ther

My head swam and my breathing stopped as I stood up. "
Juanito
?" I called out.

"Chance, talk to me," Kristen demanded over the phone. "Did I hear that kid right? Did someone knock him out? And Juan's not there?"

"Yeah… Which way did they go?” I asked looking to the boys.

They pointed to the door leading towards the café and food court. I wanted to sprint towards the door, but I was halted at the sound of Adrian groaning and trying to stand. “Sit!” I demanded before returning my ear to the phone. “I’m going after them.”

Kevin was dialing on his phone, “I’m calling the cops, we should wait until they get here.”

“I’m
going
after them. Stay with the kids and make sure Adrian gets checked out. Tink I’m going to need support.”

My heart was truly in my fucking throat.

"Fuck, fuck, fuck," Tink hissed over the phone. I could hear her order instructions to call not only Dario and Jackson, but Cam Riley too. "Call Ross and Macon first; their closer. He can haul ass the rest of the way. Now, Kristen!"

“I got Cam on the phone, he’s filled in. Tell him what you need.” Tink reported

"I'm heading out to the café area now.” I informed running full speed out of the second entrance into the crowded food court. “I need Ross and Macon to get here. Someone took him," I breathed, trying to stay focused. If I were taking two kids away I wouldn’t drag them through the crowded expo. I looked around and saw a service door for workers only. The door was askew, I headed that way.

"You've got it," Cam said soothingly. "I’m on my way.”

"Chance!" Tink called over the phone. "Jackson says he’s coming. Ross and Macon are less than five a miles out."

"Alyssa, I’ve got two units heading your way, complete with search dogs. They'll do regular procedures until I can get to you, got me?"

"Yeah," I breathed, darting down the long hall that seemed to be heading to a loading exit, but I could barely see straight, because my godson was nowhere to be found. "And an ambulance, Cam," I muttered. "I don't know how bad it is with Adrian..."

“Already called them.” Tink swore ten steps ahead.

"Who've I got?" I growled, keeping the path.
