 Simon Peter, a servant and an apostle of Jesus Christ, to them that have obtained like precious faith with us through the righteousness of God and our Saviour Jesus Christ:
2
 grace and peace be multiplied unto you through the knowledge of God, and of Jesus our Lord,
3
 according as his divine power hath given unto us all things that
pertain
unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue:
4
 whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.
5
 And beside this, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue; and to virtue knowledge;
6
 and to knowledge temperance; and to temperance patience; and to patience godliness;
7
 and to godliness brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness charity.
8
 For if these things be in you, and abound, they make
you that ye shall
neither
be
barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.
9
 But he that lacketh these things is blind, and cannot see afar off, and hath forgotten that he was purged from his old sins.
10
 Wherefore the rather, brethren, give diligence to make your calling and election sure: for if ye do these things, ye shall never fall:
11
 for so an entrance shall be ministered unto you abundantly into the everlasting kingdom of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.
12
 Wherefore I will not be negligent to put you always in remembrance of these things, though ye know
them,
and be established in the present truth.
13
 Yea, I think it meet, as long as I am in this tabernacle, to stir you up by putting
you
in remembrance;
14
 knowing that shortly I must put off
this
my tabernacle, even as our Lord Jesus Christ hath shewed me.
15
 Moreover I will endeavour that ye may be able after my decease to have these things always in remembrance.
16
 For we have not followed cunningly devised fables, when we made known unto you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but were eyewitnesses of his majesty.
17
 For he received from God the Father honour and glory, when there came such a voice to him from the excellent glory, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.
18
 And this voice which came from heaven we heard, when we were with him in the holy mount.
19
 We have also a more sure word of prophecy; whereunto ye do well that ye take heed, as unto a light that shineth in a dark place, until the day dawn, and the day star arise in your hearts:
20
 knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation.
21
 For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake
as they were
moved by the Holy Ghost.

 O how love I thy law! it
is
my meditation all the day.

 Thou through thy commandments hast made me wiser than mine enemies: for they
are
ever with me.
99
 I have more understanding than all my teachers: for thy testimonies
are
my meditation.
100
 I understand more than the ancients, because I keep thy precepts.

 I have refrained my feet from every evil way, that I might keep thy word.
102
 I have not departed from thy judgments: for thou hast taught me.
103
 How sweet are thy words unto my taste!
yea, sweeter
than honey to my mouth!
104
 Through thy precepts I get understanding: therefore I hate every false way.
105
 Thy word
is
a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.
106
 I have sworn, and I will perform
it,
that I will keep thy righteous judgments.

 I am afflicted very much: quicken me, O L
ORD
, according unto thy word.

 Accept, I beseech thee, the freewill offerings of my mouth, O L
ORD
, and teach me thy judgments.

 My soul
is
continually in my hand: yet do I not forget thy law.
110
 The wicked have laid a snare for me: yet I erred not from thy precepts.
111
 Thy testimonies have I taken as an heritage for ever: for they
are
the rejoicing of my heart.
112
 I have inclined mine heart to perform thy statutes alway,
even unto
the end.

 A man that doeth violence to the blood of
any
person shall flee to the pit; let no man stay him.
18
 Whoso walketh uprightly shall be saved: but
he that is
perverse
in his
ways shall fall at once.

 Belshazzar the king made a great feast to a thousand of his lords, and drank wine before the thousand.
2
 Belshazzar, whiles he tasted the wine, commanded to bring the golden and silver vessels which his father Nebuchadnezzar had taken out of the temple which
was
in Jerusalem; that the king, and his princes, his wives, and his concubines, might drink therein.
3
 Then they brought the golden vessels that were taken out of the temple of the house of God which
was
at Jerusalem; and the king, and his princes, his wives, and his concubines, drank in them.
4
 They drank wine, and praised the gods of gold, and of silver, of brass, of iron, of wood, and of stone.
5
 In the same hour came forth fingers of a man's hand, and wrote over against the candlestick upon the plaster of the wall of the king's palace: and the king saw the part of the hand that wrote.
6
 Then the king's countenance was changed, and his thoughts troubled him, so that the joints of his loins were loosed, and his knees smote one against another.
7
 The king cried aloud to bring in the astrologers, the Chaldeans, and the soothsayers.
And
the king spake, and said to the wise
men
of Babylon, Whosoever shall read this writing, and shew me the interpretation thereof, shall be clothed with scarlet, and
have
a chain of gold about his neck, and shall be the third ruler in the kingdom.

 Then came in all the king's wise
men:
but they could not read the writing, nor make known to the king the interpretation thereof.
9
 Then was king Belshazzar greatly troubled, and his countenance was changed in him, and his lords were astonied.

Now
the queen by reason of the words of the king and his lords came into the banquet house:
and
the queen spake and said, O king, live for ever: let not thy thoughts trouble thee, nor let thy countenance be changed:
11
 there is a man in thy kingdom, in whom
is
the spirit of the holy gods; and in the days of thy father light and understanding and wisdom, like the wisdom of the gods, was found in him; whom the king Nebuchadnezzar thy father, the king,
I say,
thy father, made master of the magicians, astrologers, Chaldeans,
and
soothsayers;

 forasmuch as an excellent spirit, and knowledge, and understanding, interpreting of dreams, and shewing of hard sentences, and dissolving of doubts, were found in the same Daniel, whom the king named Belteshazzar: now let Daniel be called, and he will shew the interpretation.
13
 Then was Daniel brought in before the king.
And
the king spake and said unto Daniel,
Art
thou that Daniel, which
art
of the children of the captivity of Judah, whom the king my father brought out of Jewry?
14
 I have even heard of thee, that the spirit of the gods
is
in thee, and
that
light and understanding and excellent wisdom is found in thee.
15
 And now the wise
men,
the astrologers, have been brought in before me, that they should read this writing, and make known unto me the interpretation thereof: but they could not shew the interpretation of the thing:
16
 and I have heard of thee, that thou canst make interpretations, and dissolve doubts: now if thou canst read the writing, and make known to me the interpretation thereof, thou shalt be clothed with scarlet, and
have
a chain of gold about thy neck, and shalt be the third ruler in the kingdom.
17
 Then Daniel answered and said before the king, Let thy gifts be to thyself, and give thy rewards to another; yet I will read the writing unto the king, and make known to him the interpretation.
18
 O thou king, the most high God gave Nebuchadnezzar thy father a kingdom, and majesty, and glory, and honour:
19
 and for the majesty that he gave him, all people, nations, and languages, trembled and feared before him: whom he would he slew; and whom he would he kept alive; and whom he would he set up; and whom he would he put down.
20
 But when his heart was lifted up, and his mind hardened in pride, he was deposed from his kingly throne, and they took his glory from him:
21
 and he was driven from the sons of men; and his heart was made like the beasts, and his dwelling
was
with the wild asses: they fed him with grass like oxen, and his body was wet with the dew of heaven; till he knew that the most high God ruled in the kingdom of men, and
that
he appointeth over it whomsoever he will.
22
 And thou his son, O Belshazzar, hast not humbled thine heart, though thou knewest all this;
23
 but hast lifted up thyself against the Lord of heaven; and they have brought the vessels of his house before thee, and thou, and thy lords, thy wives, and thy concubines, have drunk wine in them; and thou hast praised the gods of silver, and gold, of brass, iron, wood, and stone, which see not, nor hear, nor know: and the God in whose hand thy breath
is,
and whose
are
all thy ways, hast thou not glorified:
24
 then was the part of the hand sent from him; and this writing was written.
25
 And this
is
the writing that was written, MENE, MENE, TEKEL, UPHARSIN.
26
 This
is
the interpretation of the thing: MENE; God hath numbered thy kingdom, and finished it.
27
 TEKEL; Thou art weighed in the balances, and art found wanting.
28
 PERES; Thy kingdom is divided, and given to the Medes and Persians.
29
 Then commanded Belshazzar, and they clothed Daniel with scarlet, and
put
a chain of gold about his neck, and made a proclamation concerning him, that he should be the third ruler in the kingdom.
30
 In that night was Belshazzar the king of the Chaldeans slain.
31
 And Darius the Median took the kingdom,
being
about threescore and two years old.
1
 But there were false prophets also among the people, even as there shall be false teachers among you, who privily shall bring in damnable heresies, even denying the Lord that bought them, and bring upon themselves swift destruction.
2
 And many shall follow their pernicious ways; by reason of whom the way of truth shall be evil spoken of.
3
 And through covetousness shall they with feigned words make merchandise of you: whose judgment now of a long time lingereth not, and their damnation slumbereth not.
4
 For if God spared not the angels that sinned, but cast
them
down to hell, and delivered
them
into chains of darkness, to be reserved unto judgment;
5
 and spared not the old world, but saved Noah the eighth
person,
a preacher of righteousness, bringing in the flood upon the world of the ungodly;
6
 and turning the cities of Sodom and Gomorrha into ashes condemned
them
with an overthrow, making
them
an ensample unto those that after should live ungodly;
7
 and delivered just Lot, vexed with the filthy conversation of the wicked:
8
 (for that righteous man dwelling among them, in seeing and hearing, vexed
his
righteous soul from day to day with
their
unlawful deeds;)
9
 the Lord knoweth how to deliver the godly out of temptations, and to reserve the unjust unto the day of judgment to be punished:
10
 but chiefly them that walk after the flesh in the lust of uncleanness, and despise government.
Presumptuous
are they,
selfwilled, they are not afraid to speak evil of dignities.
11
 Whereas angels, which are greater in power and might, bring not railing accusation against them before the Lord.
12
 But these, as natural brute beasts, made to be taken and destroyed, speak evil of the things that they understand not; and shall utterly perish in their own corruption;
13
 and shall receive the reward of unrighteousness,
as
they that count it pleasure to riot in the day time. Spots
they are
and blemishes, sporting themselves with their own deceivings while they feast with you;
14
 having eyes full of adultery, and that cannot cease from sin; beguiling unstable souls: an heart they have exercised with covetous practices; cursed children:
15
 which have forsaken the right way, and are gone astray, following the way of Balaam
the son
of Bosor, who loved the wages of unrighteousness;
16
 but was rebuked for his iniquity: the dumb ass speaking with man's voice forbad the madness of the prophet.
17
 These are wells without water, clouds that are carried with a tempest; to whom the mist of darkness is reserved for ever.
18
 For when they speak great swelling
words
of vanity, they allure through the lusts of the flesh,
through much
wantonness, those that were clean escaped from them who live in error.
19
 While they promise them liberty, they themselves are the servants of corruption: for of whom a man is overcome, of the same is he brought in bondage.
20
 For if after they have escaped the pollutions of the world through the knowledge of the Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, they are again entangled therein, and overcome, the latter end is worse with them than the beginning.
21
 For it had been better for them not to have known the way of righteousness, than, after they have known
it,
to turn from the holy commandment delivered unto them.
22
 But it is happened unto them according to the true proverb, The dog
is
turned to his own vomit again; and the sow that was washed to her wallowing in the mire.
