What?  Me?  What am I turning into?

“How is that even possible?” I heard Hagan ask.

“I don’t know,” Archer answered.  “I just don’t know.”

“Her eyes are completely pitch-black,” Trey whispered turning to someone I couldn’t see. “They look just like…him.”

“She’s turning,” Archer whispered again, his fearful, shocked eyes never leaving mine.

What?!  Turning as in turning into a vampire?  Oh God no!  I don’t want to turn into a creature like them.  I don’t want to be a vampire at all!  Kill me.  Kill me now!

Archer must have heard my thoughts because he addressed me for the first time.  “I have to end your life,” he whispered in a defeated monotone.  “I can’t let you become what he is.  I love you too much for that.  I’m sorry Skye.  I’m so sorry.”

“Yes,” I managed to breathe right as my eyes closed of their own accord.  I’d rather die and go to Heaven than live and become a monster.  All strength drained from my body and I felt myself starting to slip away.

“You can’t kill her!” Trey screamed, his panic becoming uncontrolled.  “You can’t, Archer!  You can’t!”

“I have to,” I heard Archer whisper right before I felt his fangs sink deeply into my neck.

All sound ceased then and I felt my heart sputter weakly a few times in my chest.

I tasted my bloody vomit suddenly rise again at the back of my throat right before my heart sputtered one last time and I slipped away for good.
