I picked up the phone and my face instantly lit up with a huge smile. I hung up and immediately texted Sydney. She was at work today, but we were both only working half days.

Me: Sydney, the doctor called with the results of my bloodwork from my checkup.

Sydney: Oh, my God. And what did they say?

Me: We’re in the clear.

Sydney: I’m so happy, honey. We’re going to have a lot of celebrating to do tonight.

Me: Yes, that’s the plan. Where do you want to go? I’ll take you anywhere. Just name the place.

Sydney: Well…

I knew she had to be biting her lip. She probably wanted to go somewhere expensive and was scared to tell me. She always offered to pay given she had hit the jackpot, but I never let her.

Me: Spit it out, baby. We can go anywhere you want. Tonight we’re celebrating.

Sydney: I sorta have a craving for steak.

Me: You know I love steak. Where did you have in mind?

Fuck yeah. I could tear up some steak tonight and a loaded baked potato. My girl had good fucking taste. I felt like I was cock of the walk at the moment. I normally wasn’t this vain, but it felt good to know my test results had come back negative and that I was going to live a long, healthy life with my girl and our baby.

Sydney: Hmm…

Yep, it was most likely some place pricey. But I would spend any amount of money to make her happy. In fact, when I ravished her tonight, I wanted it to be at a hotel suite. I would make reservations at whatever hotel was close to the steak restaurant she chose.

Me: I’m waiting.

Sydney: Well, either Gordon Ramsey’s Steak House at Paris or Gallagher’s Steak House at New York, New York.

Me: Hmm

Sydney: Is that not okay with you?

Me: Fine, babe. I just don’t know which one I want. How about if I surprise you?

Sydney: Oh, I love surprises. You know that.

Yes, my girl loved her surprises, and I fucking loved to give them to her. It was the warm smile that graced her face and the hopeful look in her beautiful eyes that made it all worthwhile.

Me: Perfect. What time will you be home?

Sydney: I should be getting off here around four and then I’ll head home.

Me: I’ll plan to meet you at home then.

Sydney: Can’t wait to see you.

My girl couldn’t wait to see me. My heart swelled. It felt so fucking right to be with her. It was like God had created her just for me. I planned to give her
special
for the rest of her life if she’d have me.

I went back to my client. “Hey, man, sorry for the delay. Let’s get back to this dragon.”

I finished the dragon that took up my client’s left shoulder and started working on my next client. By the time I was finished, I looked at my watch and saw it was five o’clock. Shit, I was late. I’m sure Sydney was getting worried. I picked up my phone to send her a text.

Me: Hey, sweets. I’m sorry I’m running late. I have a few more things to get done here, and then I’ll be home.

Sydney: No worries. I had a last minute walk in so I just got home. I’m outside playing with the dogs. I’m so happy they get along so well. We’re very lucky.

Me: Yeah, did she have any accidents while we were at work?

Sydney: Not a one. She’s a very good girl.

Me: She is.

Sydney: I don’t even think that Zeus was this good with the potty training when I first got him.

Me: That’s because he’s a rat.

Sydney: Don’t start!

I could see her getting mad throwing out the attitude and putting her hands on her hips and popping that leg. She was fiery when you pissed her off. It was funny as hell to watch.

Me: All right, I’m just going to wrap up a few things here and I’ll be home.

Sydney: Bye!

Oh, she’s pissed all right. I chuckled to myself, set my phone down, and started cleaning up my work area. It wasn’t long before I was done. Upon finishing, I headed back to my office and fired up my desktop. I needed to figure out dinner and hotel reservations for the night.

Looking at both menus, it was easy to make my decision. Gordon Ramsey’s Steak House seemed a little too foo-foo for my taste. Gallagher’s seemed just right. I called the restaurant first and made our reservations for seven o’clock. I was fucking hungry, so we needed to eat soon. Then I had them transfer me to the hotel where I booked the best suite they had available. It was going to cost me a mint, but I didn’t care. I wanted to give my baby
special.

Entering the house, both dogs came running up to me. I picked them each up giving them some good lovin’. These little fuckers were cute as shit.

“Honey, I’m home.” I love saying that. It just felt so fucking right.

I didn’t hear her respond so my guess was she was in the bedroom. Walking into the family room, I spotted Bee vegged out on the couch. “Hey, Bee, what’s up?”

“Oh, you know, just chilling and catching up on my shows. I missed all the good ones this week because I was working.” She had started working at the hospital in the pediatrics unit a few days after moving in. She was hardly ever home at night, because she was on the graveyard shift. She said it made more money and she was a night owl anyway. So I guess if that shift worked for her, then it worked for us. Plus I could be as loud as I wanted with my woman. She was a screamer, so it was good we had our privacy.

“Hey, I’ve got a favor to ask you?” I hoped like hell that she didn’t have plans tonight.

“Sure, shoot?” She was a ‘give it to me straight’ kind of girl. She was even feistier than Sydney and sort of a wild woman. I still think back to that night she dragged us to the strip club.

“Syd wants to go to dinner tonight to one of the nice steak houses at the casino. It’s a special night for us, so I booked a reservation in one of their suites for the night. I was hoping you could take care of the dogs? If not, I can call one of my siblings to see if they can help.” Please say yes. I hated owing my siblings any favors.

“Actually, Jensen is coming over tonight, and we were just going to stay in, cook some dinner, and watch a movie. So, yeah, I can do it. No problem.”

Thank fuck.

“Thanks, woman. You’re a life saver.” I’ve wanted to talk to her about Jensen. I know that Sydney had voiced her opinion about not liking him, and I felt now was my shot.

“So you really into this Jensen dude?” I walked back into the kitchen and let the dogs out the sliding glass door.

I walked back into the family room. She was sitting up ramrod straight. I could tell she was on the defensive. “Yes, I happen to like him a lot.”

“I’m gonna level with you here, Bee. There is something about that guy that I don’t like. He just doesn’t seem like he’s a good match for you and he’s rather shady. When he looks at me, my body breaks out into goose bumps and it isn’t the good kind. They are the type that makes my hair stand on end.”

“Oh, really? You’re going to talk to me about guys?” She folded her arms across her chest. The bee was a buzzing and ready to strike.

“Yep. I think of you as another sister, and I’m just looking out for you. I don’t want you to get hurt.” I tried for nice and concerned, and put it back on her.

“While I appreciate your concern, Damien,” she said sarcastically, “who I date or have in my life is none of your fucking business. Besides, you have no room to talk.”

“What the hell are you talking about? I’ve always been good to Sydney.” Oh, now she had poked this bear. My cackles rose.

“I know how you were when Sydney first moved in here. Don’t think that she didn’t tell me all about you. So you,” she pointed to me, “don’t have any business talking to me about Jensen.”

“Fine, suit yourself. I’m just concerned. If he fucking hurts you, I will lay him into the ground.” And I was serious.

Very fucking serious.

“While I appreciate it, it won’t be necessary. He treats me with respect.” She looked away from me, and I could tell this conversation was done.

“All right, I’ll say no more. Just remember, I’m looking out for you.” The dogs started barking so I knew it was my cue to go let them in and get on with my night.

After my heated conversation and letting the dogs in, I headed upstairs to see my girl. I walked into the bedroom to find her sitting on the bed holding her belly with a concentrated look on her face. I instantly rushed to her side. “What’s wrong, sweets? Is there something wrong with the baby?”

She looked up at me, and then gave me a gleaming smile. Fuck, she scared me half to death. She took my hand and placed it over her belly, and what I felt put the same smile on my face.

“Was that our baby kicking?” And I felt it again.

She giggled. “Yes, isn’t it amazing?”

“It’s fucking beautiful.” I got on my knees in front of her and kissed her belly. “I love you so much, baby girl. One day, you will have a name for us to call you by.”

“I know we need to start looking at names for her.” I got up off my knees and sat next to her.

“Have you even looked at the book?” I had, but I wasn’t quite sure if she had. There were a few names I really liked.

“Yes, I’ve been looking a lot, but I feel like we can’t give her a name until we see her. I do know that I want her middle name to be Suzanne after my mom.” She looked at me with hopeful eyes.

“Sure, I’m down with that. I wish I could’ve met your mom. You don’t talk about her much.” I raised an eyebrow. She gave me a pained look. I knew that her mother’s death was still fresh for her. She had told me they were close. I couldn’t imagine what it would be like to lose my mother or even my father, for that matter. It would have to be fucking hard.

“It’s just so hard to talk about her. I miss her more than you know. She would’ve been thrilled to be a grandma.” A tear leaked from her eye, and I pulled her in for a hug and kissed her on her forehead.

“It’s okay. We don’t have to talk about her. But if you do ever want to, I would love to listen.” And I would. I wanted to know as much about the woman I loved so much as I possibly could.

“Thank you.”

Okay, time for a subject change. Tonight was about good times, not sad times.

“So are you ready for some steak? I’m so hungry I could eat a dirty shoe.” My stomach chose that moment to growl loudly.

“I’m famished.”

“Okay, well, I’m going to head to my room and get ready. Make sure you pack an overnight back.” I hoped like hell she liked this surprise.

“Why do I need an overnight bag?”

“It’s a surprise, but I’m sure it won’t be hard to figure out.”

“Oh, okay.” Her eyes lit up.

When I got to my room, I changed my clothes. I put on a pair of black slacks with an untucked steel gray collared shirt, and I had my sleeves rolled up to my elbows. I went for a bit nicer since we were going for a fancy dinner. I hoped like hell that Sydney appreciated my clothing choice.

I went to her room or our room at this point. I didn’t know but felt like a conversation was needed. I wanted to move all of my stuff into her room and just stay there. I entered the room and the site of her took my breath away.

Sydney was dressed in a white sundress with an empire waist, her belly on full display. It was sleeveless and showed her beautiful toned arms. She had on some low red wedge sandals and simple diamond necklace. She looked fucking breathtaking. Her golden blonde hair was flowing down her back in loose curls, and I just wanted to dive my hands in it and play. It looked so silky smooth.

“You look beautiful.” I think my mouth hit the floor.

She twirled her tiny little body around giving me the full display and my fucking dick went rock hard. “You like?”

“Oh, I fucking love. My dick just went solid, babe. If we didn’t have reservations, I would throw you down on that bed and take you.” And I meant every word of it.

“I can’t wait to have you inside of me.” Her eyes were full of pure raw lust.

I think my dick got harder if that were even possible. I needed to cool this shit down or else I wasn’t going to be able to make it through dinner.

“I know.” I winked at her.

She grabbed her bag off the bed and I looked down at my watch. We had about forty-five minutes to get there, check into our suite, and make our dinner reservation.

I grabbed the bag from her, walked across the hall, got my shit, and we headed to the casino.

We pulled up to New York, New York where used valet service for my car. I grabbed our bags out of the back seat and we headed inside.

“So you chose Gallagher’s?” She smiled at me. I think this was her first choice, as well.

“Yeah, I looked at both of the menus, and this place seemed more my speed. I don’t think I’ve heard of half of what was on that other menu.” I guided her to the check-in desk.

“So we’re also going to be staying the night here, too?” Again with the smile.

“Yes, is that okay with you?” I hoped like hell it was.

“Absolutely, you just made my day. After finding out your good news, which I didn’t doubt for one moment, and then the baby kicking, this has turned out to be a very good day that keeps getting better. I feel so special,” she said placing her hand over her belly.
