Everything in my life had changed over the
summer. Nothing was ever going to bring my mom back, and having
Allison break off our friendship was like losing a sister. Jake had
completely stolen my heart and then had broken it, even if it
hadn't been his intention. But I knew I had come out of a very dark
time much stronger and more appreciative of what I had in my life
than ever before. I felt more than ever that I was loved, and for
all that I had lost that year, I had gained in return a father I
believed was trying his best to be a good parent to me, a trusted
friend in Jill, and a little sister who looked up to me. I was
pretty sure it was going to be a good year.
