It didn’t take long for her to find a rhythm with Ronan guiding her hips. She soon found the right movement and pace to give them both the most amount of pleasure. He was so long she felt him in her body in a way she never could have imagined before. At first not sure if it was pleasurable or painful, she soon melted into the feeling and found her body relaxing, accepting him.

“That’s it, Destiny. You can take all of me.” His fingers dug into her hips as he moved her fluidly in a motion that helped accommodate his size better.

With her dress still half-on and half-off, the skirt whirled out around them, covering his belly and thighs. She reached up and caressed her own breasts. The fire in his eyes as he watched was its own reward.

“Come for me again, baby.” He changed his movements just enough so he now brushed against her clit with every thrust, but it was too much. She couldn’t come a
third
time. Her poor, abused clit was still so tender from the first…

“Ahhhhh.”

A slow smile broke across his face, and she realized he knew
exactly
what he was doing. He’d shut off her internal monologue and had actually brought her to the crest of another orgasm.

“I’m not coming until you do, and I’m about desperate here, Destiny.” He ground against her again and looked into her eyes with such longing. She knew she could never deny him. She moved her body in cadence with his, and before she knew what was happening, another orgasm started to claw its way up from the very center of her being, digging into her skin and pulling her into the abyss.

She cried out, not even caring anymore who heard her or even what Ronan would think of her.

Ronan growled deep in his throat. “That’s my girl.”

He flipped her onto the bed and came down atop her. Full of fire and need, he began to pound deep into her, and with every thrust, he hit the center of her, causing her to yelp and squeal, but good God, it felt delicious.

She watched his features as the orgasm took him, going from passionate intent, to glorious rapture. He was a beautiful man and never more so than right that second. He grabbed her hips and pulled her body hard onto his with his every plunge, and soon she lost her ability to keep up. She became more like a ragdoll being fucked mercilessly by a powerful beast. She was small and feminine and
sexy
.

When the orgasm crested, he came down atop her. Keeping enough of his weight off her, careful not to squish her, but in the way he lay over her, she felt protected, safe, cherished…even loved. She reached up and kissed his forehead.

“I never knew it could be like that.” She still wasn’t even entirely certain what it was she’d experienced, but sex had
never
been that way for her at any time in her existence.

He smiled down at her, his breath still shaky. “Honey, we’re just getting started.”

She thrilled at the promise in his words, even though she still had doubts. He was committed to her resort at least through the summer, though. Suddenly she was looking very forward to what may unfold between them.

He moved away only long enough to dispose of the condom then came right back to her. He pushed back her hair and pressed a hard kiss to her forehead before rolling and taking her into his arms as they lay side by side.

“I see so much in you, Destiny. So much that you don’t. I’m making it my mission that before I leave, you’ll see it too.”

He kissed her forehead again then snuggled around her.

She lay listening to him breathe, completely surrounded by his body. If she could surrender her pride and hardheadedness to Aiden’s input on the resort, maybe she could do the same for Ronan in bed. She didn’t know what exactly it was that he saw, but she knew in her soul she wanted to see it, too, because he saw a woman she wasn’t really in touch with. She almost recognized this woman, but at the last minute the recognition always eluded her. Could it really be so easy to find her again after all these years?

She looked up at Ronan, and he took it as invitation to kiss her slowly, causing her to burn and smolder with reawakening need.

She pulled away and looked at him very seriously.

“Ronan?”

“Yes, minx?”

She giggled.

“Don’t let me push you away, okay?” She looked away from him, hating exposing herself.

“Are you planning to?”

“Not planning as such.” She looked back up. “I just know myself. I want to see this through. I
need
to. So please, promise me you won’t let me push you away?”

His fingers softly grazed over her shoulder and down her back. The air conditioning unit kicked in, making an awful squeal at first. Everything in her was fighting her urge to run. She lay still. She waited.

“I promise you this, from now until my work here is done, you will have my undivided attention. I will make it my mission to be there for you in any way you need, from getting that damn AC to stop whining, to making you come as many times a day as you need. I promise you passion and laughter. I promise you discretion. I promise to show you sides of yourself I’m betting you don’t know exist right now, but I cannot promise you that I will force myself on you. I don’t play games, Destiny, if you want me to go, I will.”

He placed his fingers beneath her chin and tugged up so she was captured in his gaze.

“So be
very
certain that’s what you want before you push.”

She drew a deep breath and knew exactly what he was doing. He was a man who took responsibility for himself. He expected the same of her.

“I can’t promise I won’t freak out on you.” She chewed her lip.

“Just be honest with me, and I think we can work through anything that comes up.”

That was a fair enough argument.

“I bought a whole resort.”

“You did,” he answered calmly.

“I moved away from the town I’ve lived in my whole life.” She swallowed, still unable to understand how exactly she’d found the courage to make that move.

“You did.”

She drew a breath as she started to feel the panic rise.

“I raised two pretty great kids.”

“You damn well did!” He smiled at her, and she took pleasure in his praise.

She pushed away from him, but only so she could get back atop him. Straddling him, she placed both her palms flat against his chest, basking in the warmth of his skin beneath them.

“Then I can handle a strictly sexual liaison with a damn fine man for a few months without freaking out or panicking or pushing him away.”

He placed his hands atop hers, then slid up her wrists to the lower parts of her arm.

“It’s okay to be unsure. It’s okay to be scared. It’s okay to get overwhelmed, and it’s okay to tell me
no
if I’m pushing you too hard or too far. Just don’t tell me to go unless you’re sure that’s what you want, because Destiny, I can’t handle you pushing me away then wanting me back over and over again.”

She swallowed. “Is it silly to be this skittish at my age?”

“Darlin’, age has nothing to do with it. You’re lacking experiences and confidence. That can happen to a woman at any age. Just relax. Stop thinking so much.”

Stop thinking so much.

It was easier said than done, but she could try.

No.

She
would
try.

She smiled softly down at him. “I’ll try.”

He reached up behind her neck and pulled her down to him, muttering a simple, “Good girl,” before devouring her with another incendiary kiss.

She didn’t know what she was in for with him, but she liked what she was feeling. She liked the possibilities she saw opening up before her. She’d figure it all out as she went along. She was capable. She was smart. She was horny as hell and just wanted him to fuck her until neither of them could move.

She giggled against his lips.

“What?” He was so soft with her at times. His words were almost a caress themselves.

“I guess I was just excited.” She hoped that didn’t sound too dumb.

“About the possibilities?”

She smiled and nodded. Something in his eyes shifted, like he knew something she didn’t, but she refused to let it worry her, not now. He pulled her back into a kiss, tugging her body down atop him, then curled her into his arms. He was hard again, and she was wet. It was a perfect combination for one long night, and one hot summer.

Chapter Seven

“You should go soak in the hot tub,” Destiny cajoled.

“I would go soak in the hot tub if one gorgeous, sexy redhead would agree to join me.” Ronan reached across the counter of the front check-in and casually drew his fingers through hers.

“I’m watching the desk right now, I can’t.” She pulled her hand back, feeling like a kid afraid of being caught in a PDA by the principal. “But if you’re in pain, you should go.”

“Honey, I have a physical job. I’m
always
in pain.” He rubbed at his shoulder and winced.

“That may be, but this seems worse than an everyday ache.” She was trying not to slip totally into caretaker mode with him, but it was pulling pretty hard at her, especially since he kept flinching.

“Like I said, you come with me and…”

A young blonde woman stepped around the corner toward the desk, and both she and Ronan went into professional mode, stepping back. Destiny smiled a welcome at the woman.

“I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to interrupt.”

“No, you didn’t at all. How can I help you?” Destiny hoped she had reassured her. As the woman came closer, it became apparent she’d been crying.

“I…” She stood for a moment with her mouth open as if she had lost all connection with her brain.

Dressed in gray velvet pajama pants and a short white tee that showed of a sliver of skin across her belly, she had her hands clasped tight in front of her and looked visibly shaken. Destiny felt for her. She had no idea what was going on with this woman, but there was an instant kinship between them all the same.

“It’s okay. Whatever it is, I know we can fix it,” Destiny reassured her.

Ronan even stepped back up to the tall marble counter to be closer, clearly ready to help if needed.

“Why don’t you start with your name?” Destiny smiled.

“Karissa.” She swallowed. “Talbot.”

“And you’re a guest here?”

Destiny recognized a lot of the guests, but the number had risen over the past few weeks, and she wasn’t able to keep as good a check of everything and everyone as she had in the beginning.

“I am. I’ve been here three weeks, actually.” She played nervously with her fingers. “I came down here from North Carolina. I gave myself a month. I was going to find an apartment and a job and then send for my son and… It’s been three weeks, but I can’t find a job, and no one will rent to me and I can’t go back, I just can’t. There’s
nothing
back there for me.”

Tears started to well up in her eyes and spill over as she spoke.

Destiny became overwhelmed with emotion and came around the desk to put her arm around the young woman.

“Don’t you know anyone in the area, sweetheart?” Ronan spoke softly with honest care openly displayed on his face.

“No one. This was just a dream. Something I needed to do, but it’s been so much harder than I had expected, and now I feel like a total failure and…”

“Well, you’ll stay here first of all, for as long as you want.” Destiny couldn’t have it any other way. “And if it’s work you need, good lord I’ve got jobs here!”

Karissa blotted her eyes with a tissue Ronan handed her.

“I don’t want to be a bother or a burden to anyone.”

“Sweetheart, you’re no bother, and believe me, you’re talking to the right woman. Destiny is the patron saint of lost souls.” Ronan’s words and gaze stroked her soul like a tender caress, but she couldn’t lose herself in it right now.

“You are
no
bother. How old is your son, and where is he staying now?” She got back on track while what she wanted was to hug Ronan tight even though it would probably make his shoulder worse.

“He’s twelve, and he’s with my mother. She and I don’t get along very well, but she loves Ian.”

Destiny rolled her eyes. “Believe me, with
that
I can totally relate.”

“I’m back, Des.” Back from break, the girl working the front desk came bounding around the corner like a cat with its tail on fire.

“Yes, I can see that, Jasmine.”

The girl blushed furiously as she realized they weren’t alone. “I’ll just go”—she started walking backward toward the desk—“get back to work.”

“Good deal.” Destiny smiled and walked Karissa up to the counter.

“What room are you in, Karissa?”

“Eighteen twelve,” she answered somewhat hesitantly.

Destiny directed her next comments to Jasmine. “Do a checkout on her. She’s moving into the family building. What rooms do we have in there?”
