He’d heard America was security conscious these days especially after the 9/11 bombings but, still, he was surprised at the fifteen-minute
grilling
he had at the hands of airport security. He’d answered their questions confidently though he had thought a few of them were rather peculiar. But the male and female officials had been pleasant enough and as they gave him permission to leave they both made a point of wishing him a pleasant stay in their country. As he left the small claustrophobic cubicle and the door closed behind him, the female official beckoned through the glass window to another visitor to America to come forward from the lengthy queue. Security officer Clint McGregor watched as the latest interviewee walked across the wide expanse that led to the terminal exit and picked up the internal telephone.
“Ashley,” she shouted.
He caught sight of her on the other side of the barrier manned by two fully-armed New York cops. She waved like an excited schoolgirl.
“Ashley… over here.”
She looked different. He waited patiently as the sliding doors filtered the throng through one or two at a time. He expected a nervous meeting, perhaps a little cold even.
But no.
She rushed forward, her eyes pulled him in like a black hole and he took her in his arms and kissed her. He crushed her with a pressure that told her he never wanted to let her go and he knew… they knew… that it was right.
“Ashley, I’ve missed you so much, more than you could imagine.”
“Me too… me too.”
His hand caressed her face and he leaned forward to taste her again. His tongue pushed gently against her lips. It felt so good… so right, and he wanted to be in her hotel bedroom making love to her time and time again. He wanted to discover the parts of her body he had only imagined in the past.
He felt a hand gently push him in the back. He turned around to face the New York cop who was staring at him.
“Could you please move along, sir? You’re causing an obstruction.”The cop was smiling.
Ashley blushed and took Claire’s hand.
“C’mon, let’s get out of here.”The cop’s partner looked on.
“Have a nice day, sir,” the cop shouted as they turned and walked away.
Claire Macbeth and Ashley Clarke left the terminal building and joined the queue for the yellow cabs.
The two cops watched them every step of the way until they took up their position in the cab rank.
The older cop Gavin Anderson turned to his young understudy John Bonner.
Bonner raised his eyebrows.”Is that them, buddy?”
The older cop nodded his head.”That’s them, John, our friends from across the pond... the undesirables.”
Always a man of quotes, he placed a hand on John Bonner’s shoulder.
“Put your trust in God, my friend, and keep your powder dry.”
Ken Scott is fast becoming an internationally recognised talent in the world of fiction and ghost-written autobiographies.
His latest book ‘Do The Birds Still Sing In Hell?’ is set to become an international best-seller and is well on the way to becoming a motion picture. It is being translated into several different languages. He is currently working on two autobiographical projects with the glamour model Alicia Douvall and an award-winning Liverpool born actress. Both books are crammed with controversial content, typical of Ken Scott’s ‘sensational’ books. Ken also worked with the troubled athlete Dwain Chambers on his book ‘Race Against Me’.
This is Ken Scott’s third work of fiction.
