“Yes, of course. For his part in drugging you, and for knowing deep down just what Stella had been doing all these years.”

Libby lay back relieved and visibly relaxed. She closed her eyes as tears threatened to escape. The past few hours had been so traumatic. Robert put his arms around her and held her close.

“Please don’t—” she said.

Alarmed Robert drew back. “Don’t what?”

“Please don’t ever stop holding me.”

Robert stared down into her tear-laden eyes. “Never my love, never ever.”

Sometime later there was a knock on the door, and Robert stood up to admit Diana. She softly enquired whether she might come in when Libby turned to see who her new visitor was.

“I think it is about time you two met,” Robert said as Diana approached the bed.

“I’m sure we’re going to be good friends,” Diana said, smiling at Libby. “Robert has told me all about you. I think you’re exactly what he needs.”

The two women eyed each other as Robert held his breath. Apart from his sister, they were the two most important females in his life, and it was imperative that they got along.

Libby returned Diana’s smile. “I did wonder at first if I might have a rival. That was until Robert explained about you.”

Robert let out his breath in relief. Things were going to be okay. A noise at the half-closed door had them looking towards the disturbance.

“Steve!”

“I thought I might find you all here. Wherever there’s trouble, you can count on Diana being in the thick of it. How are you, my darling? Are you going to tell me what you’ve been up to this time?”

Robert laughed at the guilty look on his cousin’s face as she gazed lovingly at her husband. “Don’t worry about her, Steve. It looks like we have someone else who’s just as accident-prone, trouble following wherever she goes. Sit down, and we’ll fill you in. You have no idea what you’ve missed.”
