He rose above her and smiled. “Thank god. I couldn’t begin to think what
it was I could have done to hurt you. I never want to hurt you Alex. I hope you
know that. I know I hurt you over and over again but I never
want
to
hurt you.”

“Shhh…Ian. It’s okay. You don’t need to say any more.” A wicked grin
crossed her face. She had suddenly regained some strength. “I know you’re not
done with me are you?” She grasped his still bulging shaft and stroked him.

“Don’t Alex. Any other time I’d welcome your touch but I won’t last if
you touch me now. Watching and listening to your orgasm almost set me off. I
want to be inside you. Do you want me inside you Alex...or have you had
enough?” He taunted her.

“Not nearly enough Ian. Not nearly enough. I’ll go crazy if I don’t have
you inside me. Now!”

Ian rose above her and teased her opening, rubbing the tip of his shaft
back and forth over her moist lips.

Ian entered her slowly. He groaned and began to pump slowly but as she
arched her hips toward his he lost control and pumped harder and faster. He had
wanted to take her slow and make it last. He found that he really did want to
show her how he wanted her for more than just sex. He wanted to show Alexandra
that he needed and loved her though he knew he’d never be able to tell her as
much in words.

The climax came fast and furious, as he knew it would. She was so tight,
so wet...she was a witch who had him under her spell. He cried out her name and
she too screamed again in release. He felt her lips tighten around him as she
climaxed yet again. He pumped harder and faster and cried out her name over and
over as his seed filled her. As Ian collapsed atop Alex he thought about how much
he loved to empty himself inside her. How much he’d love to empty himself
inside her and give her his child.

Whoa Foster! You’ve got to stop those kinds of thoughts!

They snuggled together exhausted from the fury of their lovemaking. They
gently kissed each other on the lips and held each other as they drifted off to
sleep.

***

Alex awoke to the shrill of the telephone. What idiot would be calling at
this hour? She felt the weight of Ian’s arm across her waist and she turned and
smiled. He’d stayed the night. She couldn’t remember the last time he’d spent
the whole night with her. He always had some excuse why he had to go home. But
last night when they hadn’t been pleasuring each other he’d held her and she
had never awakened so gloriously happy in her life. Except for the damn phone
ringing.

She reached across Ian for the phone.

“Hello?”

“Alex? It’s Peter. Where are you?”

“I’m at home. Comfy in bed.” Ian stirred at the sound of her voice and
turned to her and smiled. Oh, how she loved that smile! She would give anything
for that smile to be the first thing she saw every morning. If only he didn’t
make her so angry so often. He quickly began kissing her and caressing her and
she giggled, forgetting the caller.

“Alex? Are you still there? What do you mean you’re still in bed? Are you
sick?”

Ian was driving her crazy. She would have to end this conversation fast.

“Why are you calling me at this hour Peter? Couldn’t this wait until I
got to the office?”

“Ian stop it,” she mouthed and smacked him on the rump when he started to
suckle her nipple.

“Can’t help it. I’m starving baby.”

Peter’s voice brought Alex back to the call at hand.

“Okay Alex, I can hear that asshole is there with you and that's your
business I know. But the least you could do is call and let the rest of us who
love and worry about you know you’re still alive if you’re going to be late.”

“Late? What are you talking about Peter it’s...,” she glanced at her
alarm clock to see that it was 10:00 a.m.! My god, she had overslept...not
surprisingly.

“Peter I am so sorry. I didn’t realize what time it was. My alarm didn’t
go off for some reason this morning.”

“Sure doll. If that’s the excuse you want to give okay. But can we expect
Mr. Foster to let you come in at all today?”

The annoyance and jealousy in Peter’s voice didn’t escape Alex’s notice.

“Listen Peter. I’m sorry and I’ll be there within the hour but I would
appreciate you keeping your snide comments and thoughts to yourself. My
personal life is none of your business just as yours is none of mine.”

Alex hung up the phone and Ian could feel how her body had tensed up
under his touch because of Peter’s call.

“Alex. Come on now. Don’t let little Mister Busybody spoil our morning.”

“I’d like to know why my alarm didn’t go off. I specifically remember
setting it before I jumped into the tub last night.”

She lifted the alarm to examine it and Ian took it from her and placed it
back on the nightstand.

“Alex, you’re not going to be very happy with me but I shut it off. I
called and checked your schedule with your secretary yesterday so I knew you
had no appointments or court hearings set for today sooooo,” he sighed, “I’m
the reason your alarm didn’t go off.”

“Ian, why would you think it would be okay for you to do something like
that? Damn it now you’ve gotten me in hot water with Peter who is already
extremely jealous of my relationship with you and...,” she stopped when she saw
the wicked grin spread across his face.

“Why you dirty rascal. That’s exactly why you did this isn’t it? You
wanted to make Peter jealous?” Ian laughed but didn’t deny her accusation.

“Yes, Alex I wanted to make Peter jealous. I wanted him to wonder what we
did all night and all morning. I can see him stewing all morning trying to
decide whether or not to call you. It must have driven him mad!”

“You are an evil person Ian Foster. Just evil!” She laughed at the incredibly
gorgeous grin Ian had on his face but she truly felt horrible for Peter.

“Hey, you’ve told me time and time again how you’ve tried to discourage
Pete yet he keeps panting after you like a little puppy dog. I thought I’d help
you out a little. If you’d like I’ll have a little talk with Mr. Grainger and
set him straight and tell him to quit sniffing at your skirts.”

“Ian stop it! Peter is really none of your business. I’ll handle him. He
is a dear friend, my best friend actually and I don’t like him being played
with like this. I’ve always been completely honest with him about my feelings
and even though he hasn’t given up on me I don’t like you rubbing our
relationship in his face. ”

“Okay fine. But like I said, let’s not let him ruin our morning. Okay?”

He took his fingers and twined them through her hair with his left hand
and held her head as he slowly lowered her head back so he could nuzzle her
throat. With a feathery touch his lips caressed the hollow of her throat and
she could feel his heart racing as she touched her hands to his muscular chest.

“Last night Alex you begged me not to stop. Then you begged me to stop.
Which is it now Alex? Do you want me to stop or do you want me to fill you up
and make you come again?”

“Oh, Ian. Please don’t ever listen to me when I tell you to stop. Don’t
ever listen to me.”

Their mouths claimed each other’s and Ian rolled her over on top of him
and gently lowered her onto his throbbing shaft.

“You’re not going to make it to work within the hour baby,” Ian said with
a grin.

“Who cares,” Alex moaned as he filled her and she slowly started to make
love...to the man she loved.

***

The man she loved. Alex knew it and admitted it to herself now as she
showered. She loved Ian Foster and had loved him for years. That was why she
had put up with all of his crap for so long. He is arrogant and conceited.
Brilliant and beautiful. He is cold, uncaring, and evasive. Attentive, tender,
and loving. The warm water slithering down her body reminded her of Ian’s touch
and how it warmed her and made her feel so alive. Yesterday had been one of the
greatest days of her life. She had spent nearly the whole day in Ian’s company
as well as half the day today. She was in love with a man who was resigned to
spending his life alone taking only the bits and pieces he got from her and his
entourage of women. He never admitted to having any feelings for her other than
lust but she couldn’t believe that the man who made such tender, urgent love to
her last night could have done so unless he felt something for her. He’d even
said he wanted to make her forget about being with any other man. What did he
mean if he didn’t mean he wanted a future with her and only her? She had almost
screamed out loud that she loved him this morning. She had come so close but
she knew that would have spoiled everything and sent Ian running out the door.
She was going to have to play it cool or he’d walk out of her life forever. She
knew she was foolish and yes, she was acting like a school girl, but she would
rather have what she had with Ian, no strings attached, than nothing at all.

Ian was dressed and making coffee while Alex showered. What the hell had
he been thinking spending the night? The whole night had been a huge mistake.
And telling her that he’d even planned on spending the night! He had to undo
the damage he’d done and fast. He was finding it harder and harder to resist
the little nymph so it was time to back off and put some distance between them.
He’d actually told her he didn’t want her to want any other man but him. Plus,
he’d deliberately set out to make Peter, the main man in her life, jealous so
he would back off and leave her alone. He’d actually found himself wanting to
make her pregnant as he spilled his seed inside her. Foster, you are losing it
pal! You need to run and run fast from this woman. It was time to make a clean
break. Time to break it off and not go back. It was the only way to keep his career
aspirations safe.

Ian sat at the table reading the morning paper and sipping coffee when
Alex entered the kitchen. What she would give to have this scene every morning.
She felt kind of free and liberated now that she had admitted to herself that
she was crazy in love with this complicated man.

Ian offered her a cup.

“Coffee. Thank you so much. I truly need this before facing Peter this
morning. Oops. I guess I mean this afternoon.” Alex was trying to keep
conversation light because the stern look on Ian’s face hadn’t escaped her when
she walked in the kitchen. Brace yourself kid. Here comes the brush off. She
had seen that look before. She just hadn’t figured that after last night... it
always started with his rambling.

“Look Alex. I really gotta get going. I wasted enough of the day as it
is. It’s been fun and I hope you’re not in too much hot water with Peter. The
way he has the hots for you, I doubt he’ll hold it against you for long. After
all, you are his star defense attorney and the most beautiful thing he’s got in
his life. I’m going to be working on that Ashland Grove murder case over the
next couple of weeks so I doubt you’ll see much of me. See ya later baby.” He
grabbed his jacket and gave her a quick kiss on the cheek and started toward
the door.

“Ian wait.” Alex’s sweet voice stopped him in his tracks. He was afraid
to turn and look in those angelic eyes but he did. Hurt. The hurt was there.
He’d done it again and couldn’t…...wouldn’t do it again.

“What is it Alex?”

“That’s what I want to know Ian. What is it? What have I done or said to
upset you and send you running this time?”

“What are you talking about Alex? Please I need to go. I don’t have time
to get into any deep discussions now. We’ll talk about it later. I’ll see ya
later.”

“Will you? Will you see me later? I thought, well I thought last night
and this morning were beautiful. I don’t know what I’ve done to upset you.
Please tell me and I’ll make it right,” she pleaded. “I’m sorry whatever it
was.” “
Begging. I’m begging to this man. What is wrong with me?”
Alex
thought.

Ian couldn’t breathe. His chest tightened and he couldn’t find the words
to soothe her. He needed to get out of there.

“Alex there’s nothing wrong, really. Quit worrying. I gotta go.” He gave
her another quick peck on the cheek avoiding the look in her eyes and raced out
the door closing it behind him and leaning back on the door to take a deep
breath. This was getting harder and harder. This had to be it. He couldn’t go
through this again and he knew damn well he couldn’t put her through this
again. What was that girl’s name he took to the Governor’s Ball last month?
Jennifer. That was it. He was going to have to spend some time with Jennifer
tonight or go crazy thinking of Alex. Damn it. He could hear her crying. He
raced to his car and as far away from Alex as he could go.

Alex was not going to let him do this to her again. She would have
herself a good cry and then get on with her life. This was too much. She had
finally realized she loved the clod and that made this rejection hurt so much
worse. It was time she listened to Peter. Time she got the bastard out of her
system. But she was going to have that good cry first.

***

Alex walked into the office and saw Peter who immediately ceased his
conversation with his partner, Don Anderson, and started toward her.

“Please Peter, I’m sorry. Truly sorry. Despite what you think I overslept
because my alarm didn’t go off and I’m sorry I was so short with you on the
phone. I need to get to work and I warn you, I am in a horribly cranky mood
despite the extra sleep. So please. I don’t even want to talk about it.”

Peter followed her into her office and shut the door. She turned on him
with anger flashing in her eyes. “Peter did you hear a word I just said? I DO
NOT want to talk about it!” She just couldn’t hold back the hurt or the anger
she was feeling. She covered her face with her hands and the tears flowed.
“Please Peter. Just leave me alone!”

Peter made his way to her and took her in his arms. He could tell when she
had walked through the door by her red-rimmed eyes and the miserable look on
her face that she had been crying. Peter held her, stroked her hair and
comforted her without saying a word. When the tears had subsided and she had
calmed herself she found the strength to pull away from Peter’s comforting
arms.
