“Hey,” said Rick. “Kill me? I'm your brother.”

“I don't give a fuck,” said Jake, swinging the knife again. “No one can have her, she's mine. I deserve her.”

Jake darted at him, wielding the knife, and Rick ducked his blow, barely avoiding his brother's attack. He charged him, his shoulder down, and they crashed into the wall together. Jake cried out, the wind knocked from his body, and Rick heard the crack of his ribs, obviously broken. The knife clattered to the floor, and Rick stooped to pluck it off the carpet before his brother could get hold of it again.

“Fuck,” yelled Jake, tears streaming down his face as he clutched his broken ribs. He turned, his eyes burning with hatred as he glared at his brother, before darting off down the hall toward the kitchen. Rick ran after him, his shoulder screaming from the impact with the wall, ripped from its socket by the collision, useless and limp by his side. As he came around the corner, his brother was leaping off the front steps, heading toward the car in the driveway.

“Jake,” Rick called, not wanting to lose his brother again, not when he was so close. He needed to keep hold of him, get him back to the hospital, get him back on his medications. If he lost him now, he didn't know what he would do.

“Fuck you,” said Jake, jumping into Alex's car and turning the key. “Fucking kill you!” He pulled out into the street, the tires squealing, and drove off into the darkness.

Rick stood in the driveway, the knife in his hand, and watched as the lights went on in the windows of the house across the street. He needed to go back into the house, needed to see if she was in fact there, if she was all right. Walking back into the house, he strode purposefully down the hall to his brother's room, and threw open the door.

She had been lying on a bare mattress, her skin pale in the light of the bedside lamp. His brother had pulled all the pictures off the walls, leaving them stark and white, showing signs of water damage coming through the ceiling of the old house. He stood in the doorway, staring at her, willing her to move, unable to imagine if he were looking down upon her lifeless body. He stepped into the room, cradling his dislocated arm, and sat down gingerly on the edge of the mattress next to her.

He reached out his good arm, gently placing his fingertips on the pale skin of her cheek. He breathed a sigh of relief, finding it warm. Her eyelids fluttered, and she moaned as if waking from a nightmare.

“You're okay,” he said, more to convince himself that she was all right, that his brother hadn't harmed her, than to comfort her.

Chapter Nine

Rick rubbed his eyes, dragging himself from the memories of that night, the police and the paramedics arriving at the same time, the hours of questioning both at the house and at the police station. He wasn’t allowed to rest, to go search for his brother; he was held in the interrogation room until the detectives had the entire story. He answered their endless questions, feeling as though they were covering the same subjects again and again, wasting time when they could be out there searching.

His thoughts frequently returned to her, to Alex. Was she all right? He knew that the paramedics had taken her to the hospital, but no one had given him an update on her condition. Why should they? he thought. It wasn’t as though he were family. He wanted to be with her, put his arms around her and pull her close to him, where he would know that she was safe and warm, protected from any danger. But he didn’t know if she would ever want to even see him again, when she found out his secret, that he knew exactly what was going on, and why she had been kidnapped.

In the end, after the story had come out, she had somehow forgiven him for keeping it from her. He was amazed that she actually wanted to speak to him again, after all she had been through, but she had even convinced her father to keep him on as her bodyguard. She understood, holding his hand as he told her the story of his life, and how she became a part of it at the hands of his mentally unstable brother. More than that, she had accepted his apologies, welcoming him back into her warm arms, her embrace comforting him after he had been cold to her for so long.

He smiled as he turned into the parking lot of his favorite pizza place, able to ignore, if only for a moment, that they were still in danger, and just enjoy the fact that he had such a wonderful, powerful, vibrant woman in his life. He wished that things were different, and that they could have a real chance at happiness.

Chapter Ten

              Fucker.

Jake watched as his brother walked out of her office and headed to his car, his jaw twitching as he clenched his teeth, his stomach churning with rage at the smug smile on Rick’s face. He had taken her, stolen her right out of his bed. Jake would never forgive him, for taking what he deserved, trying to keep her all for himself.

He couldn’t deal with this. The others were screaming, raging that he had lost her. He needed to get her back, even if it meant killing his own brother to do so.

Turning the key in the ignition of the old car, Jake gazed up at her window one last time before pulling out into traffic, heading downtown. He needed to make some final preparations before putting his plan into motion. It was going to work this time. It had to. It was perfect.

Chapter Eleven

“Oh my god,” said Alex, throwing her bags on the floor in the living room before kicking her shoes off her feet. It had been a ridiculous day, meetings after meetings after phone calls after emails, until she was ready to scream at the top of her lungs. Having Rick there didn’t make the situation any easier. Though she enjoyed his company, and truly felt safe with him around, she constantly worried that he was dying of boredom, stuck sitting in her office for hours with absolutely nothing to do. She didn’t have time to entertain him, let alone converse with him; the project had fallen way behind schedule in her absence, and they desperately needed to make up some time.

Rick stepped in behind her, locking the deadbolt on the door, and went to check each of the windows, as he did every time that they returned to make sure that their security had not been compromised. Once he was satisfied, he went to the refrigerator, pulling the door open and staring inside.

“Hey,” he said, turning toward the bedroom door, Alex standing just inside it, pulling the tight-fitting blouse that she had worn to the office over her head, her long, red hair falling over the pale skin of her bare back. He smiled, a hunger perking up inside him that had nothing to do with the fact that there wasn’t any food in the house.

“Yeah?” Alex said, turning her head to look over her shoulder, a wry smile curling her lip as she noticed him watching her undress.

“Are you hungry?” he asked. “Because if you are, we’re going to have to go to the store. There isn’t anything to eat in this place.”

“I know,” she said, puckering her face in irritation. “The last thing I want to do after a day like today is go shopping, but I think that we have to.”

“Yeah,” he said, shutting the door of the refrigerator and crossing to her. He put his arms around her waist, laying his palm flat against her belly, and pressed his lips against the hollow between her neck and shoulder, inhaling the scent of her warm skin. “Now,” he said, “I really like you naked.” He slid his hands up her body, lifting her breasts gently, and pulled at her nipples, causing them to pucker between his fingertips. “But I think you might cause a scene at the market if we take you there like this.”

“All right, all right,” Alex said, slapping his hands away. She loved it, the rush that she felt when he put his hands on her, but if he continued to caress her in that way, they would never go anywhere. She yanked a sports bra out of the laundry hamper, judging it clean enough for the grocery store after a quick sniff. Slipping a t-shirt over it, she traded her dress slacks for a pair of well-loved jeans and headed back out into the living room, putting her hair up into a pony tail as she shoved her feet into her slippers. She had had enough of wearing shoes today. It was bad enough that she had to put clothes on and actually go somewhere, when all she really wanted to do was peel everything off and sink into a warm bath, or into bed with Rick. She wasn’t going to put on shoes.

“Sexy,” Rick said, tugging on the end of her pony tail. His eyes trailed down her body, taking in the coffee stains on the front of the old t-shirt, the holes ripped in the knees of her jeans, and slippers of the kind one normally sees adorning the feet of an octogenarian in a nursing home, a male one.

“Shut up, you,” Alex said, chuckling. “Let’s get this over with so that I can get home and pass out.”

“Yes ma’am,” Rick said, pulling the door open and bowing deeply before her, gesturing for her to precede him into the hall.

“You’re such a dork,” she said, shuffling over in her beslippered feet and pressing the button to call the elevator.

“Yes,” Rick said, locking the bolt on the door and then testing it to make sure it was secure before slipping his keys into his pocket. “But you like me anyways.”

“You know,” Alex said, sliding her arms around his waist as he came to stand with her near the elevator doors, “I think I do.” Pulling his body close to hers, she stood on tip toes, reaching to press her lips to his in a tender kiss.

Rick slid his arms around her, causing a squeak to escape her parted lips as he lifted her feet from the floor, holding her body tightly against his, and deepened the kiss, tasting passion on her warm lips.

The elevator dinged, and the doors slid open before them. Rick stepped into the car, still holding her aloft in his arms, devouring her mouth as he carried her into the elevator and fumbled to push the button for the ground floor. Successfully hitting his target, he blew out a sigh of relief, and then shoved her up against the wall of the elevator. He parted her thighs with his knee and pressing his body between them, holding her with his weight.

Alex slid her arms around his neck, clinging to him as she wrapped her strong legs around his waist, pulling him hard against her. She could feel the heat of his excitement pressing into her. Given the freedom of having its own way, his lust would shred her clothes, tearing them from her body, and bury itself deep in the pounding heat of her sex.

He groaned, his breath hot upon her neck as he ground his hips into hers, his erection pressing hard against the rough fabric inside his zipper, straining, aching to reach her.

Alex thrust her fingers deep into his hair, grabbing great fistfuls of it and pulling, lifting his head away from where he was nuzzled in her neck. “Listen, you,” she said, her voice rough with desire, teasing him. “I don’t want to be known as the woman who fucks in the elevator,” she chuckled, kissing him passionately before continuing. “So put me down, or take me back upstairs.”

“I have a better idea,” Rick said, a mischievous glint in his eye. Supporting their combined weight on one hand planted firmly against the wall of the elevator, he reached out with his free hand and pressed the stop button on the panel. The car came to an abrupt halt, giving them the sensation of momentary weightlessness.

“What are you doing?” Alex asked, suspicious that she already had an idea as to what was about to happen.

“This,” Rick said, setting her on the hand rail in the elevator, and reaching for the button on her jeans.

“Oh, Rick,” she said, her expression one of disbelief. “What if somebody comes?”

“I’m kind of hoping both of us do,” he replied, a wry smile on his face as the button on her jeans slipped out of its hole and he slid his fingers down the front of her body, pleased to find that she wasn’t wearing panties. He dipped his fingertips into her sex, finding her warm and moist, the soft, slick heat of her making him groan aloud.

Alex’s breath caught in her throat, the heat of desire spreading through her from where he gently stroked the lips of her sex. Her body cried out for attention, for his touch; she ached to have him inside her. She didn’t have even a thought of another person at this point. She needed him.

“Fuck it,” she said, kicking off her slippers and sliding her jeans off her hips. Reaching for him, the wrapped her fist around the waistband of his pants, tugging the button open and forcing down the zipper. His cock sprang free of its confinement, seeming to be reaching for her, as hungry and eager as she was.

Rick put his hands on her hips, spinning her around, and Alex grasped the hand rail of the elevator car with both hands, spreading her legs as far as her jeans would allow, giving him greater access to her body. He palmed the full cheeks of her ass with both hands, kneading them, smiling down at the sight of her, open and inviting, before him. As he watched, admiring the way her pale skin glowed in the fluorescent light, Alex dropped one of her hands, parting the lips of her sex with her fingertips, gently stroking the sensitive bud at its center.

Rick growled, the beast inside him begging to be set loose upon her, and guided the head of his cock into her heat. Grasping her hips with both hands, he thrust himself deep inside her, sucking in a ragged breath as her body clung to him, pulsating heat around him as he held still inside her.

Alex lifted her head, her eyes meeting his in the mirror on the wall inside the elevator, and a wicked smile lit up her face. She continued to stroke her sex, each flick of her fingertip making her body twitch around him, and began to rock herself backward and forward, sliding along the length of him, sucking at him with her pulsing rhythm.

Rick dug his fingertips into the soft, pink flesh of her ass, willing himself not to lose it, enjoying the rocking of her body immensely, not wanting to climax too quickly and ruin the fun. Alex quickened her pace, her fingertips dancing against her clitoris, and began to pant as her body hummed with pleasure. She glided along his cock, the honey shimmering on his shaft, leaving him chilled until she returned to him again, sheathing him in her clinging warmth. She moaned, pleasure building inside her, running through her body in waves, gripping him, pulling him deeper inside her with each thrust.

Unable to stand the tension building inside him any longer, Rick leaned into her, diving deeper, making her cry out at the feeling of fullness, the stretching of having all of him buried inside her. He grabbed her waist, thrusting violently into her, driving himself deep within, feeling her envelop him, swallow him completely. Alex cried out, shuddering with pleasure, as he hammered her body, pounding ecstasy into the very depths of her being. Bolts of electricity shot through her as she felt him deep inside, and her belly began to tighten, to vibrate with pleasure.

“Rick,” she said, reaching for him, her arm stretching around to try and touch him. He grasped her hand, his strong fingers wrapping around hers as her body seized, and she cried out with joy at her release. The spasm, the pulsing, the clutching of her orgasm drove Rick over the edge, and he spilled his pleasure deep within her, blowing out a powerful breath as he did so.
