“You’re going to miss who won,” she exclaimed on a laugh.

Vincent was raised up, partially over her shoulder with his hand spread across her stomach over the silk PJs, as if he was feeling her laugh.

“Our version of
Chopped
. In the kitchen. You in that baby doll,” he told her with amusement in his deep voice.

“You don’t know how to cook,” she reminded him, looking up at him, while trying to look serious.

“Don’t care if I fucking cook. I’ll watch you.”

Oh wow.
He meant it too. She tried to bite back her grin. Barely worked. “Won’t be able to keep on the ‘no sex’ thing, handsome,” she warned him.

His eyes were smiling as he tried to sound affronted. “Beautiful, you questioning
my
willpower?”

Not really. He had a ton. So she tried. “No, honey. My own,” she declared. “I won’t be able to keep my hands
off
you.” Then she added for devilry, “And my mouth.”

His gaze moved to her mouth and his hand pressed into her stomach more warmly.

“Really like how you do that, baby,” he murmured. “Very attractive.” She blinked at him. Did he mean her? That he thought ... “Doesn’t bother you a bit, does it?” he asked her, as she wondered what he was talking about.

“What?”

“Special,” he murmured, looking over her face.

Now that she got! “Vincent,” she whispered, and he moved his hand to cup her cheek, stroking lightly.

“Just things I like about you, beautiful.” Then he said, even deeper, “Really like.”

Then she was getting very kissed for these things he really liked. Kissed with deep tongue, until she was clutching his hair. Then, with his lips lifted, and a breath away, he murmured, “Lots of women wouldn’t just give me that vulnerability so easily. Too much ego. You, bright light, you just hand it to me. You don’t argue about I’ll lose my willpower, you simply say you will lose yours.”

Oh, that. He liked that.

She smiled slowly. “And only you would notice,” she told him. Then she kissed him, slow, hot, and thorough, until he had to get up off the couch and walk it off.

But he had her anteing up over their cell sex that night in the dark. Him residing one room away.

Then Friday morning she cooked him pancakes while blushing over cell sex from the night before.

“Pull your panties down,” he’d ordered on her cell last night in his bossy, sexy voice. When she’d done it, he’d said, “Grab them between your legs and pull, until your knees are touching your chest.”

As she’d done it, she’d felt the exposure. It felt as if she were waiting for him. For his hot, thick erection.

“You wet?” he’d asked, in a rumble that had quivered through her.

“Yes,” she’d whispered hoarsely.

“What do you call me,” he’d demanded.

“Chief. Yes, Chief.”

“Put your fingers in my wetness, baby. Keep your legs high.”

Oh. God. Wow. In the light of day, he never mentioned her calling him “Chief,” which sounded like “Master” to her.

But the features on his chiseled, masculine face, and the intimate knowledge in his dark eyes as he lazily looked at her over the rim of his coffee mug, told her that he knew all her sexual secrets. It was amazing what they were doing over the phone each night and she wondered if he’d planned it somehow. The connection was so intimate it was as if she could feel him inside her.

When she reached for the coffee pot, while standing beside him, she felt a brush near her ear.

“Such a good girl,” he murmured.

Tess instantly blushed and then squirmed, clutching the coffee pot. He meant she’d submitted to everything he’d dared her to do over the phone last night. She dared herself to look directly at him, and then they stood speaking through their gazes for a full minute.

“Is that the way it’s going to be when we ... when we resume making love,” she asked, trying not to stutter.

He looked sexy as hell and a bit surprised, then amused. “Baby, I want you any way I can get you.” He paused, leaned closer as if he was slanting his head to kiss her. “But that’s the way I like you best.”

Incredible feelings rushed through her. She thought he should be able to hear the thumping of her heartbeat as her hand wobbled. Vincent caught her hand and the coffee pot, guiding them to pour as he leaned back from her lips a little ways. But the instant he helped her set the coffee pot back, his face returned with his black eyes melt-worthy.

“Are you going to let me be your Chief?” His voice was so low it purred straight through her sex, then pooled hotly. Things flushed and swelled on her body as she swayed toward him, their lips touching.

In some type of Vincent sexual haze, she murmured, “Yes.”

Ohmygod. Had she just said that! But then his hot mouth was kissing hers and his tongue swept deep into her mouth, making her moan and fall against him.

Back to present time, Tess stood in the bathroom, looking down at her wedding rings, still on her finger. She’d sort of given herself to Vincent this morning. Saying yes to the control he liked and, she had to admit, she liked. She understood, even under his charismatic sexual haze, that she’d been saying “yes” to a lot more than him bossing her sexually.

She’d been saying yes to him ... to all of him,
and
them. Them completely together.

Tess sighed, looking at herself in the mirror. She was ready to go and as dolled up as she could make herself. Rusty had left with her stamp of approval on Tess’ makeup and outfit. Vincent would be there soon to pick her up. She wasn’t sure where they were going and there were not many places in their smaller town for her outfit to fit in. Certainly not Lulu’s or Kickin Rodeo. Maybe he’d take her to the steak place farther down the highway and closer to the next town over.

She kept looking in the mirror. She was looking good in her dress and makeup. “Can’t believe how hard this is,” she muttered. Then she pulled her wedding rings off. “There!”

She curled them in her hand, squeezing, praying this bad marriage had not scarred her for any future chance. But that was far ahead of anything she could think about now.

Resolutely, she pulled open a random drawer in Vincent’s bathroom, seeing some razors and fingernail clippers. “Perfect,” she muttered, tossing her worthless rings into the drawer.

TWENTY-THREE / I THINK THIS HAS LEGS, BEAUTIFUL

T
he very first thing Vincent noticed was Tess had taken off her wedding rings. That was incredible because of how damn fantastic she looked, but he’d been watching those rings for a long time. He saw the rings were gone, but the next second it was all about her in that dress. Shoulders bared, cleavage begging for attention, legs so long and shaped up to her perfect ass. His curvy woman barely wrapped in sparkling, deep red.

He’d steeled himself to see her again, because the outfit just begged him to throw her into the bed and fuck her with those gold heels wrapped over his back.

It was doubly hard keeping his hands off her, because he had the gift she’d given him that morning. Her ...
all
of her. She wanted to be with him, and she wanted him in control. His new thing. His fucking new dick hardener. He knew it had to do with his ex. No way was he going back to being any woman’s personal toy. He wanted it the other way. Him toying with his woman.

The way he was with Tess fit him like a glove ... he’d just not known it. Now he’d found it, he wasn’t giving it up.

He watched Tess watching him. She really liked his outfit. Well, he had to do something to size up to his baby and her body in that dress. One vow, though. Next time she was in that dress he was bending her across something stable ... pulling that hem up over her sweet ass ... spreading those long legs, then fitting his cock with a hard thrust inside her wetness.

Instead, he gathered his willpower like a vise he would control. He knew by Tess’ gaze, which was hot and adoring, that she liked his black suit, tie, and snakeskin cowboy boots.

Then he heard the arrival of their ride. The noise got louder and louder, with Tess’ gaze widening.

“What is that?” she asked, sounding excited, while looking up at the ceiling as if it would blow off.

He walked to her side, grabbed her flimsy wrap and the sparkly purse she’d set on an island stool beside her.

“It’s okay, beautiful,” he assured her, grasping her hand that he wanted to feel without any wedding rings on.

“But, Vincent, what in the world?”

She clutched his forearm as he hooked her back and began moving them to the rear of the house. He ignored her exclamation, not really question. “Do you dance?” he asked her.

Her amazed gaze lifted to his as he opened the back door. “Do you?” she asked, sounding very surprised.

He chuckled, then waited for her next exclamation as he ushered her out the back door.

“A helicopter!”

Vincent pulled her against him, holding her steady and in place, waiting for the helicopter blades to slow. He wasn’t going to ruin her hair and makeup. His pilot knew to stop the blades before they got inside the copter.

“A helicopter?” Tess exclaimed again, this time against his throat. “Vincent?”

Vincent took Tess to a trendy steakhouse in Dallas that did justice to her attire, but still served real food that wasn’t gourmet, which he didn’t care for. He had acquaintances, he was rich, and Tess loved the helicopter ride, after her initial shock. He’d had the helicopter set down on top of an upscale tower building in downtown Dallas. Pulled in some favors for that. He and Tess took an elevator down to a white limo he had waiting.

She showed him inside that limo how much she loved the surprises, until he’d had to slow them down one step away from stripping her dress off. He realized as she clung to him in the limo that she was as excited to have a little bit of control over him. Because of his promise to hold off on sex, she could tease his libido to fevered heights, then back off with pleased and excited looks on her face.

He grabbed her chin, making her look at him—they were in the limo again after dinner and on to the next surprise stop. “Are you a cock tease?” he asked her, trying to keep humor out of his voice.

“Maybe.” She laughed, rubbing his erection beneath his suit pants with a slow glide of her palm. His other hand, not holding her chin, landed over her hand on his erection, holding it there. He could feel the pulse beat in his cock between their hands.

“I noticed no rings,” he said, letting go of her chin, but keeping her hand pinned over his hard shaft.

She looked down at her hand resting on the tie on his chest. “You’re amazing, Vincent, to notice that,” she murmured. “Last night on the phone and especially this morning, I felt like we ...”

She looked at him with her eyes searching his, while her hand lightly squeezed his erection.

“You thought we what, beautiful?”

“Sort of promised ourselves to each other. Very intimately.” Then her voice whispered, “Chief.”

Christ. How was he going to keep her upright and in that dress? He let go of her hand on his erection, actually lifting her hand off him. “I think this has legs, Tess. What we have between us. It’s long term.”

She nodded, sighing into him. “I do too, Vincent. As crazy a way as we met, I don’t think it’s rebound. I think it’s much more than that.”

He clasped a hand over her hand on his chest. “We got a good look at what we don’t want. After that, was easy to see when good came around.”

She nodded, snuggling closer, then she asked tentatively, “So are you like rich, Vincent?”

Lot of other women would have had his financials staked out all ready. They’d know. He really liked the feeling that Tess wasn’t about that. She’d be perfectly happy in his ranch house driving in his truck.

“Yeah,” he answered simply.

“Okay,” she replied. She patted his chest once. “All those charities, of course you are, if I’d been thinking.”

“Kind of points to that,” he agreed with her.

She looked away out the window, and he straightened, wondering what she was thinking. He heard her murmur, “I’m just kind of regular.”

But the inner window divide on the limo started lowering and he felt the limo stopping, which interrupted his reply. No fucking way Tess was regular. But he got it. He didn’t act or move around like a rich man either.

“Sir, just call and I will be out front to pick you up,” the limo driver said.

Vincent watched Tess’ eyes light up when she saw the popular Dallas nightclub that played new country-western. He knew three dancing moves ... the two-step, slow, then slower. He grasped Tess’ hand, pulling her to the front of the line. The beefy bouncer nodded them right in, as Vincent called to Tess.

“Hope you can dance, sweetheart.”

She laughed, staying tight to his arm with wonder in her eyes at being let in ahead of everyone.

TWENTY-FOUR / CHIEF, NO MORE WAITING

E
arly next morning, Tess heard her cell phone ringing. After the amazing date with Vincent, they’d gotten back to the ranch house so late the night before there’d been no cell phone sex. But from previous sessions, she always kept her cell close, and without even opening her eyes, she grabbed it and answered the call.

“The sexiest dancer I’ve ever seen.”

“Chief,” she whispered, pleased to hear Vincent’s voice. God, he was amazing and he’d treated her like a queen last night. It was the best date she’d ever been on, with the best man. And he so
could
dance.

“Some of those moves you were doing, honey, made me hot. That hip action,” she told him. Then she added again, because she’d told him a dozen times last night, “Thank you, it was so special. I loved it. All of it.”

“That sweet mouth of yours showed me lots of special kisses last night, beautiful,” he murmured back. Then he asked, “You go to bed naked, like I asked.”

“I did, Chief,” she murmured back, stretching slowly under the sheets, feeling sexy.

“Nipples hard for me?”

“Hard, tight, and aching, Chief.”

“That’s my wet, baby.”

She moaned.

“I left you something in the dresser drawer, top left. Go get it.”
