“Yes, sweetheart, we’re pregnant,” he

whispered bending down to brush his lips

against hers.

“We’re having a baby,” she cried excitedly

reaching for Brandon’s hand. “But I was told

that I couldn’t conceive.”

“I know. We’ve been given another

chance.”

They both watched the technician squirt

gel onto Dominique’s stomach and slide the

wand across her abdomen.

“Here we are, ladies and gents,” she said

after a few moments during which Brandon felt

a terrified certainty that it was all somehow a

huge

mistake.

“There’s

your

baby…hmm…babies.”

Brandon and Dominique watched in awe

as the technician talked them through each step

she took.

“I’d say by the size of the fetuses that

you’re very early on, about seven to eight

weeks. Is that about right, Mrs. Cameron?” the

technician asked.

“Goodness, I have no idea. I don’t even

remember not getting my period. I feel like

such

a

dunce,”

Dominique

groaned,

embarrassed.

“Is everything okay with the baby?”

Brandon asked the question they’d both been

avoiding.

“Everything appears to be just fine with

the babies, Mr. Cameron. There’s nothing on

this sonogram to indicate otherwise,” she said,

taking a towel and wiping the gel from

Dominique’s stomach. Then she pulled the

gown back down over her belly.

Brandon

tightened

his

hold

on

Dominique’s hand. He sighed in relief at the

technician’s words.

“I’ll get this report over to your doctor.

Congratulations!” she said, and left, pushing

the machine along with her.

After the technician left, Brandon and

Dominique held each other and wept.

“I love you, Mrs. Cameron,” he

whispered.

“I love you too, Mr. Cameron,” she

whispered back. “It’s going to be okay this time

Brandon. It feels right.”

“Yes it does. Now I just need to get those

rings back on your finger. How about we do

another ceremony for our families?” Brandon

suggested.

“Oh Brandon, that’s a great idea. Let’s do

it right away,” Dominique cried excited.

“Hopefully the ADA will have dropped the

charges against my client or the jury will find

him innocent.”

“Your part in that case is finished

Dominique. The ADA had no other choice but

to drop the charges once it was leaked that he

was on the take along with half of the other

attorneys. It’s one big disaster and an

embarrassment for the state. Heads are getting

ready to roll, I can tell you that much. Federal

has jurisdiction now,” Brandon informed her.

“Oh wow! I have a feeling this is going to

be around for a long time,” Dominique said.

“Did they find out what happened with the

building?”

“Not yet. There’s something else. “We

discovered your father had a part in you being

put on this case. I won’t go into all of that now.

That and the building is another investigation.

But you know what? I don’t care, because as

soon as we get this wedding over with, we’re

out of here for a month,” Brandon said.

“Oh really? And just where, pray tell, are

we going?” she asked.

“I don’t know yet. Wherever we go it will

have lovely beaches and lots of sun,” Brandon

said.

“Deal. Now kiss me,” she demanded.

“My pleasure,” he said, claiming her lips

in a passionate kiss.

“Ah, Brandon did that technician say

babies?” she asked with a lift of her brow.

Brandon thought for a moment. “I don’t

think she did…did she?” He pondered her

question.

They stared at each other for a moment

before they both looked towards the closed

curtain and simultaneously called out.

“NURSE!”

EPILOGUE

Dominique and Brandon renewed their

vows in the backyard of Brandon’s parents’

home two weeks after Dominique was

discharged from the hospital.

Dominique’s father did not attend. He

was in the hospital with congestive heart

failure. Dominique had gone to see him several

times before the wedding. She’d never told him

that she and Brandon were renewing their

vows. He didn’t seem to care. He still had no

remorse for anything he’d done. When the time

came, he’d be sent home with a private nurse.

The family was finished with him—his

immediate family, anyway.

Dominique and Brandon now sat on a

private beach in the Bahamas enjoying the sun,

the water, and each other. Brandon made sure

Dominique got plenty of rest and waited on her

hand and foot.

They’d been through the fire and

survived. They might have been singed a few

times…but not burned.

“You okay, baby?” she heard her husband

ask. He did that a lot.

262

“No, I’m not,” she answered.

Brandon jumped up from his sitting

position. “What’s wrong?”

“I need my husband to make love to me,”

she said slyly.

“Dammit, woman, you just gave me a few

more gray hairs!” he barked with false anger.

“What can I say? I’m addicted to my

husband,” she sassed.

Brandon leaned forward, gently pushed

Dominique back and climbed on top of her.

“I can fix that,” he said reaching between

them to remove her bikini bottom and tossing

it aside. Then he removed his swimming trunks

and tossed them next to her bottoms. Using his

knees, he parted her legs, aligned his erection

with her opening and gently pushed inside her.

“Umm,” Dominique moaned.

“I know, baby. You feel so good,”

Brandon groaned increasing his tempo. Taking

her lips in a scorching kiss, Brandon lifted her

hips for her to receive more of him but he was

still careful. Because of her condition, he didn’t

want to get rough with her. He continued to

kiss her. Tracing kisses all over her face, hair,

mouth, neck, and shoulders, then back to pull

her tongue into his mouth. His orgasm was

near. He gyrated against her in a circular

motion, back and forth, as gently as he could

under the circumstances.

The obstetrician hadn’t told them not to

make love. In fact, she’d explicitly said that they

could. But she had informed them that as

Dominique’s pregnancy progressed she would

probably need a stitch in her uterus to keep her

from delivering too soon, and that she’d

probably be on bed rest early on to be safe.

Brandon intended to spoil her and wait

on her hand and foot.

He

groaned

in

pleasure.

When

Dominique’s vaginal walls clenched his cock, he

knew she was near her release. Good. He was

ready, too. His lips left her mouth, captured her

hardened nipple between his teeth, and pulled

it into his mouth. Dominique cried out her

release, triggering his own climax. She milked

him for all that he was worth, and he loved it.

Crying out, he fell against her in pure bliss.

“Dominique?”

“Y-Yes?”

“We made it, baby. Through everything

we made it.” He smiled against her breast.

“We did. Thank you for hanging in there

with me. I love you, Brandon.”

“I love you, too. Very much.”

“Why the hell do we keep doing this

shit?” Sinjin asked his men and comrades.

“I don’t know, Grim…justice. Maybe,”

Red answered.

Sinjin sneered. “Justice. We’ll see. Cysco,

I think I see movement on your side,” Sinjin

said into his mouthpiece.

“Gotcha, Grim,” Cysco acknowledged.

Sinjin looked through his night goggles.

He could see into the guarded house where the

girls were being kept. “Damn. Seems like they

bring more girls in by the day. We have to move

on this soon. We need to get the girls out. That

son-of-a-bitch, Martinez, is going down. If it

has to be by my hand, so be it,” Sinjin barked.

He couldn’t stand men who hurt women and

children, and for this asshole to be human-

trafficking young girls was Martinez’s death

sentence. He had to die. Prison wasn’t enough.

“Grim, they’re moving some of the girls.

Shit, one of them is fighting one of the men.

Through the Fire

265

They’re getting ready to drug her. I can see one

of them with the syringe in his hand,” his other

watchman, Ten, informed him.

“Watch my back—I’m going in,” Sinjin

whispered. Sinjin made his way through the tall

trees, past the security system—
child’s play
, he

thought scornfully—and into the house. “I’m

in.”

“On your six, Grim,” Red said.

Sinjin ducked just in time. Damn, he

needed to keep his senses about him. He

couldn’t let emotion blind him from doing his

job.

“Grim, they took the drugged one to the

room in the back on the right,” Red informed

him. He could hear his men loud and clear, as if

they were standing right beside him. Sinjin

quickly made his way down the hall, disarmed

the man guarding the door with ease, then

dragged him inside the room. He quickly

looked over at the bed and saw that the young

lady, whoever she was, was knocked out. The

room was semi-dark so he couldn’t tell

anything else from where he was standing.

Sinjin dropped the disarmed guard to the

ground and slid him under the bed, kicking him

in the head for extra measure. “Fucking creep,”

266

SERENITY KING

he murmured. Then quickly, he went over to

the bed to lift the young lady and get her to

safety. This one was a beaut. If he didn’t know

any better he’d think that he knew her. She

looked very familiar. However, with all the

gook on her face and the wig, he couldn’t be

sure. He did know for certain that this was not

one of Martinez’s girls. In fact, she was dressed

for battle, in black from head to toe. No wonder

they wanted her.
Who are you darlin’ and why

is such a beautiful woman out here alone?

She still wasn’t moving, and that

concerned him. Just to be safe, Sinjin checked

for a pulse at the vein in her neck. As he did so,

he knocked the wig off of her head and froze.

Asia
? Fuck! I will kill that motherfucker

with my bare hands,” Sinjin barked into his

mouthpiece.
