.D., is a clinical psychologist, lecturer, and popular teacher of Buddhist mindfulness (vipassana) meditation.

She is the founder and senior teacher of the Insight Meditation Community of Washington and the Meditation Teacher Training Institute of Washington. Tara teaches meditation at centers throughout the United States including Spirit Rock, Omega Institute, Kripalu Center, and the Smithsonian Institute. She has offered speeches and workshops for mental health practitioners at numerous professional conferences. These, along with more than five hundred audio talks and ninety videos, address the value of meditation in relieving shame, fear, and other forms of emotional suffering. Tara is the author of
Radical Acceptance: Embracing Your Life with the Heart of a Buddha
(Bantam, 2003). She lives in Great Falls, Virginia, with her husband Jonathan, her mother, Nancy, and their three dogs.
