“And you try to remember what I said,” she added.

“I remember everything you’ve ever said.”

A shiver raced down her spine at his words and surprising her, he swatted her on the butt, squeezing her there right after.

“Everything,” he added with a suggestive caress between her butt cheeks.

Heat flooded her pussy, reminding her that it still wanted more, but her butt clenched too, and she wondered what it would be like to take Robert that way.

Amazing, she was certain.

Chapter Nineteen

The cry of a bird over their heads drew Kris’ attention and Robert watched her reach out automatically for his arm as she stared up at the cloudy sky. He helped her over a rocky part of the trail amazed at how trusting she was.

“Watch your step, not the bird, darling,” he reminded her with a kiss to her nose when she turned those dark eyes on him.

She smiled and lifted her face for a real kiss and he gave her a quick one, unable to resist how sweet she was, no matter how often. The small taste was enough to make him burn for more. Everything about her made him burn for more, so that wasn’t surprising.

The way she’d denied that the drugs had changed him, then blown his mind by stroking him off to show better than any words could that he was a man—and hers—had settled in his chest, anchoring him to her faith. He
was
hers, no matter what else happened in the next few days, she had him completely. Maybe she always had, he thought, watching her walking so peacefully beside him.

She hummed softly, as if they were out for a hike. They’d just survived a car crash, she’d shot at men, he’d scared her badly when he’d passed out, then yelled at her afterwards, but none of it seemed to dim the glow. A glow he’d given her. A sense of pride filled his chest.

She tripped over something buried under the snow, and he reached out to steady her.

“Careful,” he told her, stopping to scan their location. The slippery trail had levelled out from the steep incline they’d been on for hours, but the easier walk also meant he had no view other than the hills surrounding them. His neck prickled every time he checked the ridges for sign of pursuit. They were more exposed than they had been in the denser forests, too, which made his skin crawl.

Each time he saw nothing, heard nothing above their breathing and their quiet passage through the layers of snow, but his unease had grown. Kris had grumbled good-naturedly once when she went hip deep in soft snow that as soon as she got home she was packing snow shoes in her Jeep, then got a shocked look and laughed softly, muttering “or whatever she drove from now on”.

Guilt moved him several times to reassure her that he’d get her an even better Jeep, but each time she’d squeezed his hand and nodded, saying it was okay. Hell, it wasn’t okay, but it’d done the best he could do to make it down off the road without her getting harmed. Hitting his head and totalling her Jeep was more than worth it if she’d not suffered a scratch.

“Do you know how far it is to Laramie from here, Robbie?”

Robbie
. No one had called him that since he was a boy. She had him, though, didn’t she? Because that name sounded right. He might have been the one acting the base animal and growling
mine
, but she’d marked him with a possessiveness that sent a shot of lust down his body every time he thought about it. She loved him. And maybe she was right, he thought, she did know him. She knew him in a way no one ever had.

“If I have it right,” he glanced at his watch and calculated how long they’d been walking, “we’re nearly to the bottom of the foothills.”

“And you want to hike to town from there?” Her attitude was serious even if her tone was incredulous.

“I plan on finding a vehicle,” he reassured her with a nod at the falling snow. “This is going to get worse before it gets better. We aren’t chancing a night hike in it.”

“A vehicle,” she mused, doing that cute as hell repeating she did.

“You tired?” he asked.

She glanced away from the snow for only a second to check in on him. “Not yet. I think we’re nearing a few houses, though. I’ve walked this way before. The houses are for summer tourists. They might have a car…”

“Are you suggesting I steal a car?” he teased her. She swatted his chest lightly and he pulled her in close and kissed her. “If so, you realise that’s a felony, right?”

“But it would be fun.”

“God damn, we’re not Bonnie and Clyde.”

“No, but you do need to get to town and it will take us a day to hike there, and it’s going to snow harder…”

At her teasing voice he swatted her butt again and hauled her closer. She wrapped her arms around his neck and pressed a kiss to his lips. “You’re smart enough to know that, you’re smart enough to know I’ll do it just to get this over with so I can convince you to let me show you how to get your little smartass tingling.”

Tingling?

She lifted her brows and planted kisses on his face. “Oh… You’re so scary when you talk like that, all growly.”

He laughed and kissed her lips before he let her go. “Here, let’s take a break. We’ve been walking for hours. You’re sure you’re not tired?”

“No, it feels good to get out, I mean, if we weren’t on the run.”

“We’re not on the run. Here, drink. How many houses are there near here?” He found a fallen log and brushed the snow off so he could sit down. He pulled her gently on his lap after. “I thought the satellite showed a few near the base of the northern foothills, but if that’s where we are, I went way off course.”

She didn’t let him off the hook so easy with the shift in topic. Instead she tilted her head and seemed to gauge his expression for seriousness. “I think you’re simply too big for us to have anal. Or maybe I’m too small for your
big guy
to go near that back door. But if you want to convince me, I might let you try, “she said and wiggled her little butt right over his groin.

He choked on his swallow. “Darling, warn a man before you stay stuff like that, when you’re dangling what he wants right over him,” he wheezed.

She grinned and took the bottle.

“Are you serious?” he asked, stunned and not bothering to move her off his hardening cock to hide how much the thought turned him on. He had visions of giving her that deep, dark pleasure he knew women could only get from anal sex. The complete faith a tiny woman like Kris, or hell any woman, would have to have letting a man take her ass blew him away. The dominance intrigued him but more than that, the knowledge that she’d give him this, what he considered the ultimate in trust, had his mind swirling with ideas on how to convince her.

“You like it this much?” she asked.

He blinked and shook his head. “It’s not that, not the anal, hell, it’s…” What was it? How to explain to her what the idea did to him? “It’s the trust.”

“The trust?” she repeated, frowning and wiping the water from her lips. They both took their gloves off during the hike and she touched the side of his face with her warm fingers. “I trust you. I mean, Robert,” she twisted on his lap to face him. “You’ve been inside me, I trust you. So what is it about this that has you so hard?”

He rubbed his head, a bit embarrassed to answer her until she whispered his name again, with an air of such trust that he knew that no matter what he told her, she’d understand. “Maybe a bit of the dominance, you’d be so…helpless.”

She laughed and nodded, kissing him quickly. “I have a secret to tell you,” she whispered. “Every time, I’m helpless. Every. Time. I can’t get enough of touching you, and at times, when you’re making love to me, I feel like I can’t move, like you’re controlling everything and if I move, I might lose what you’re doing. Well, unless you let me glue your butt down,” she reminded him with a smile.

The way she spoke, as if revealing a secret, made him want her all over again. He knew when they’d made love she had enjoyed it. She was so responsive she showed him with every sigh and soft moan what she liked, but he’d not understood that the feeling of him giving her that, controlling that, thrilled her. It made his chest swell to think he could satisfy her so thoroughly that she trusted him to try anything.

“If you don’t like it, we don’t have to do it. It’s not a huge fantasy, but I think it’s one hell of a hot thing and we should try it. And, darling, your ass makes my mouth water. I won’t deny it. I want to sink in and see if I can give you one hell of an orgasm.”

She made a face and laughed. “My butt is not pretty, I mean,
that
part of my butt is not…”

“Oh hell yes it is. You have the damnedest little rump, with such a tiny little entrance—”

She laughed and tried to cover his face, blushing from his words.

He didn’t let her. “A man looks at these things. Are you saying my body doesn’t turn you on?”

“Well, it does, but I don’t stare at your butt—”

“You don’t?”

She blushed deeper and giggled. “Okay, I do, but not with the intent to, you know,” she waved her hand, he guessed to indicate him tunnelling in her ass.

He laughed so hard, she nearly fell off his lap. Nearly. He tightened his arms around her and kissed her throat. “Baby, I’m a man. We need to take, to have that friction and fill a woman. There’s been times when you’re bent over I nearly come from just the sight of your pink pussy and that little puckered opening.”

She covered his mouth with her hands again. Her eyes were bright with merriment and he guessed maybe he needed to ease her into knowing what a man wanted from a woman. Whatever that son of a bitch had done to her, he’d not loved her the way a woman needed, wanted and showed him if he paid attention. He’d heard the stupid guy had cheated on her. It didn’t surprise him in the least. Kris was more woman than most men would be able to handle without feeling inadequate. She was smart, sexy, sweet, and so honest with her emotions it was a heady thing having them directed square at a man. Not for him. He soaked her in like a sponge. Even now, when he knew they had to move out, he had her perched on his knee, talking about anal sex and not how to end this mission.

“I can’t believe you said that, let alone own up to doing such a thing,” she whispered looking half scandalized and half disbelieving.

He hauled her over his hips to straddle him completely and leaned into her so his cock was lined up right in the crevice of her ass. He squeezed her there, opening her cheeks so she wouldn’t miss the hard heat of his hard-on.

“Oh! Robert, you are so bad. Stop that!”

“If I weren’t on a mission here you’d be crying out orders for me not to stop, darling.”

He tipped her back up again and kissed her. He loved how much she liked talking sex and having sex, but hell she got him off track when he knew his mind should be on one thing, retrieving those files.

“You do take orders very well, “she whispered.

“Always,” he told her then sat away from her temptation. “So do you but we need to go before we end up naked in the snow again. If I can steal a car, we’re a step ahead of the game.”

“And that means one step closer to making love again?”

He tackled her back in his arms with a mock growl and bit her playfully on one delicate little earlobe. “You know it.”

“Anal?”

He grinned at her still slightly more fearful than interested look. “No, not anal. That will take some building up to, and I know you’ll want to get all ready for it.”

She sat up at that and he knew more questions would begin so he kissed her and stood with her in his arms. “Not now. Hell, if we keep on talking this way, I’m going to rub my dick so raw under these damn pants we won’t have any fun at all.”

“Aw, well, I can always kiss it better,” she whispered.

“Ah God, you’re a mean woman, you know that, don’t you?” he asked, unable to stop the smile when she glowed at his words as if he’d complimented her. But she helped him put the water away in the pack and waited for him to tell her the plan.

“Okay, we head out. Show me where the houses are and we’ll go from there.”

“Okay” she sighed, and took his hand. “This way, but try not to talk about stuff like that for a bit, okay? I’m trying to stay focused. I don’t know how you can talk about sexy stuff and stay focused too.”

He stared at her serious expression with his mouth hanging open. “Who says I can? You kill about ninety per cent of my brain power.”

She laughed but quickly cut off. “Oh, look, through there, that’s the first house, see it down between those trees, the dark red shingles? I can’t believe we were sitting here so close to it!”

He looked and sure enough he could just make it out. The chimney stood out clearly when he walked to the left. It was far enough away to still give them time to scout the area, but close enough that he could have Kris inside a car and warm within the hour. “It’s one of the summer houses?”

“Yes, they are part of an old summer retreat so there’s no running water in the winter and no heat either. The chimney works, though,” she murmured then shook her head. “But you weren’t thinking of staying, were you?”

“No, if they have a car there, we’ll take that.”

“I think the property man has a truck he leaves out here to plough the roads if the owners want to come out and rough it in the winter.”

“And he’s where?” he asked quietly guiding her around a fallen tree.

“He lives in town.”

“Good. Real good,” he said, already forming a plan. “Show me where the truck is.”

“I’m not sure, but we can look around. Do you think there are more men here, waiting for us?”

“No. We’ve hiked about six miles from the crash. The men would have found the crashed Jeep, but they would have to get down to it and with the icy slope and snow that wouldn’t be easy. Then they have to locate our tracks and follow to see where we’re headed.” Hope rose in his chest, but he stifled it before it could get too big. Danger still faced them. He was betting on Walters not knowing that there were copies of the flash drive. He’d been out of the room, so there was a chance he’d not know that little fact. But he might discover where the kid had gone to college and if he did… But if he was lucky, Walters didn’t know the kid’s name so he’d not know who the hell the kid was, let alone where he had gone to school. He was also betting they wanted the flash drive he had safe in his pants pocket and would concentrate on finding that—a sure thing—rather than wasting time on anything else.
