He shrugged as he pulled her close. The beat was too fast, but they worked it out. And while she was caught snug in his arms, he whispered into her ear.
“There’s more.”
She laid her head down on his shoulder and just sighed happily. “There doesn’t have to be, you know. This is great, John. This is so beyond great there aren’t words.”
He tightened his hold on her, but he didn’t comment. They didn’t say a word more until the music ended and he stepped back. “I had to give you that dance before I said the rest.”
“John—”
“I love you, Alea. I should have said it earlier, but I’m saying it now. I want to marry you. I want you to be the mother of my children, and I want you to remind me every day how lucky I am to be with you.”
There it was. The absolute perfect words from the perfect man in the whole world. “God, John, when you do something, you sure know how to do it right.”
He frowned at her a moment. “So, um…”
“Yes, John. Yes, to all of it. Always and forever, yes!” Then while her family and friends cheered, she threw herself into his arms.
He caught her. He’d always catch her, just as she would always be there for him. But just in case he forgot who he was holding, she wrapped her legs around him. This was one man she was going to grab onto every way she knew how.
Then he was kissing her. Deep and hard and as thoroughly as he did everything. Suddenly she knew that all she’d imagined about their future together was just a pale shadow of what was going to be. Because he was so much more than she’d ever thought possible. And together, they were amazing.
Flat out amazing.
Then he pulled away, mostly so they could breathe. He said something to her but she couldn’t hear him over the cheers, though she guessed. She laughed as the crowd finally quieted. Then she looked into his eyes. “Let’s go find a pool table.”
He grinned. “Same stakes?”
“Always. Not that you’ll ever beat me again.”
He laughed. “My stick game gets better with practice.”
“I’m counting on it.”
