Chapter 23

Saturday

Pulling into the hostel car park a little after ten am, I
could see Sam looking out of her window on the top floor, locking the car I
walked towards the back door as it opened with a puffing Sam on the other side.
Her hair was tied up exposing her lovely neck, wearing dark jeans and a checked
shirt she looked amazing.

“Hey...”. She smiled grabbing my hand pulling me up the
stairs to her apartment, quickly shutting the door behind us, we were both out
of breath facing each other barely a foot apart.

“You look nice”. I smiled still puffing as she moved closer
placing her soft lips on mine, our lips parted allowing our tongues to caress
each other. As she pulled away I saw the darkness in her eyes making my body
pulsate as she continued to hold my gaze.

“You do realise you’re in my room.....alone....with me?”

“I know....I think our secrets out....the same rule doesn’t
apply in your flat does it?”

She looked at me eyebrows raised. “If it does I intend on
breaking it as much as possible”.

I laughed. “So what are we taking today?”

Turning to regard her room from the door, it looked sparse
now except for the paperwork filled desk and six taped-up boxes of various
sizes sitting on the bed. “All the boxes if they’ll fit?”

“Okay...they should fit easily”. I moved behind her placing
my arms around her waist pulling her tight to me, my breasts flattening against
her back closing my eyes to breathe in her intoxicating scent. “Are you still
nervous about moving?” I ask bringing myself back to reality.

“A bit....but more excited I think.....it’s a new start”.

Turning in my arms, our eyes meet. “And it means we get to
spend more time alone”.

The thought brought a wide smile to my face, before her eyes
bore into mine wiping away any smile as she dipped her head placing a soft kiss
on my trembling lips, the throbbing is back again, I respond to her kiss.
Struggling to breathe I pulled away resting my head on her shoulder, I felt her
gently kiss the side of my face as she whispered in my ear.

“I think we’ve taken it slow for long enough....don’t you?”

My mind was racing at the thought of being intimate with
Sam. “Yes”. I barely whispered into her neck. I felt myself break out in a cold
sweat at the reality of our conversation, we had danced around it for so long I
wasn’t sure how or where to start.

A knock at the door broke the moment, before I could even
attempt to put words in a sentence Sam placed a quick kiss on my lips before
pulling away to answer the door.

“Hi Mike”.

Shit, why does he always show up at inopportune moments has he
got some kind of sixth sense. I watched as Sam arranged a time for him to drop
off her new double mattress to the flat this afternoon, another disruption. I
was surprised by my internal rant considering how much Mike had helped us both
and he was an all-round good guy. Berating myself I considered if I was jealous
of other people spending time with Sam, I had never felt this way before but
then I had never met anyone like Sam before. I shook off the thoughts of
jealousy replacing them with sexual frustration, I had never waited this long
to be intimate with someone. Not that I was a serial one night stander, but I
usually waited till the customary third date to make a move if I felt the
feeling was mutual. In this case I had waited six months, probably some kind of
record if you discount the sofa humping incident. I was as nervous as hell, but
at the same time felt ready to take it further, more importantly it was
officially mutual.

Shutting the door she turned to me rolling her eyes at the
inopportune interruption. “I think we’ll pick this up again later?”

Momentarily raising my eyebrows in agreement I enquired.
“So?....Should we get out of here?” Without waiting for a reply I started
moving towards the boxes, picking them up as Sam opened the door. Hearing her
following me down the stairs as I open the back door, wedging it open with my
foot, I waited for her to catch up.

“Hey how come you’re only carrying one and I’ve got two?”

“It’s not a competition....anyway if I was carrying two I
couldn’t do this”. Dropping her hand to grope my bottom on the way past me as
she headed for the car. I found it hard to hide my grin as we created a jigsaw
of boxes, would it always be like this with Sam. She could bring a smile to my
face with just one look or the briefest of touches. Heading off for the flat
across town, I felt Sam’s eyes on me turning to her briefly when traffic
allowed I raised my eyebrows to question her stare.

“What are you smiling at?”

“Nothing”. I replied placing my hand in hers. “Just happy I
guess”. I continued flashing her another smile.

She gripped my hand tightly for a moment before softly
caressing it. “Me too”.

Parking in the nearest car park, it took two trips to carry
the boxes and tools up to the flat, closing the door we were alone again.

“Do you want a drink before we start?” She asked unpacking
croissants and brioche from a shopping bag placing them next to a brimming
fruit bowl.

“Sure...do you have any water?”

“In the fridge I think?”

“Did you do that too?” I looked up to see her pointing at
the edging strip.

“Yeah...I found one in the garage so I thought I’d put it to
good use”.

“Thank you....you’re very good to me aren’t you?”

“It’s hard not to be”. I said catching her raised eyebrows
as I looked over at her.

Following her to the fridge I put my arms around her as she
opened the door, kissing her neck before saying. “You know what we were talking
about earlier?....I’m a bit nervous about....it?”

Turning to face me she placed her hands on my hips, before
fixing her eyes on mine. “Me too...... maybe we need to stop stressing about it
and it will just happen……...when was the last time you slept with someone?”

“You mean besides you on my sofa?” I said giggling feeling
my face heat up.

She dropped her gaze to my waist pulling our hips together
giggling. “Besides that?”

I hadn’t really talked about Kate but I didn’t want to hide
it or lie to her. “Christmas”.

Her eyes widened. “Really.....who was that?”

“My sister’s child minder....she sort of threw herself at me
one night....when we were out”. I said hoping she didn’t read anything into it,
as it meant nothing in relation to what I felt for her. “It was just a one
night thing”.

She laughed resting her forehead on my shoulder. “Is that
the effect you have on women?.......Were you nervous then?”

“No....I was a bit drunk....it just sort of
happened.....don’t tell Nat she doesn’t know about it and I’d rather she
didn’t.....she’d kill me if she lost her child-minder”.

“What about you?” I asked trying to deflect my
embarrassment.

There was a sharp intake of breath as she looked at me.
“Over a year”.

Holding her gaze I realised she must have meant Kim, pulling
her in for a tight hug I buried my face in the crook of her neck. Feeling her
whispered breath against my neck. “I’ve not met anyone I wanted to be with till
I met you”.

Pulling back I looked into her dark green eyes, moving
closer I grazed my lips with hers. As I released her she spoke in a soft voice.

“I don’t want to be drunk when we sleep together”.

“Me neither...I want to remember it”. I said holding her
gaze.

She smiled pushing stay hairs behind my ear, before gently
kissing it and whispering. “Me too”. We cuddled for a few moments before she
pulled away to begin unpacking boxes. I leant on the worktop watching her
stealth like movements as she moved between boxes placing books and CD’s in
neat piles. Unaware she was talking to me until I realised she was full on
staring at me hands on hips,  quickly making myself busy sorting out the paint
tins from the different rooms while eating several brioche.

Thirty minutes later we were painting the bathroom, my
attention was drawn to Sam stretching on the ladder to reach the ceiling,
exposing a creamy white mid-rift even in scruffy paint stained clothes she
still took my breath away.

“So?....When will you actually be moved in then?” I asked
trying to chase away thoughts of what the rest of her body looked like under
those grungy clothes.

She continued working the roller covering the last patch of
yellow wall. “Uhh Wednesday.....or Thursday I think......I’ve just got a few
more things to move across mainly clothes and work stuff”.

“Do you want me to give you a hand or drive you over?”

She made her way down the ladder her job complete, I turned
to watch her as she wiped her hands on her jeans after putting the roller back
in its tray. Moving behind me she placed the tray in the sink I felt her hand
grip my hips, I could feel the heat from her body against my back.

“No I should be okay, I can carry it.....I was wondering if
you wanted to come round for tea after work on Friday as it’s my first proper
payday?.....I could cook to thank you for all your hard work?”

“Yeah...sounds good....what are we having?”

“You’ll have to wait and see”. Her hands move around my
waist as she breathed against my neck, I could smell her scent as she pulled me
tighter whispering in my ear. “I thought maybe you could stay over?.....Maybe
spend the weekend together?”

I turned in her arms drowning in her green eyes as she lowered
her head lightly brushing my lips with her own. “That sounds even better”. I
replied smiling, moving my free hand behind her neck gently pulling her down
for another kiss, loving the sensation of heat radiating throughout my body
immediately.

The bathroom finished I headed for the kitchen to wash my
hands and paint brush, drying my hands on a towel I spied the brimming fruit
bowl on the worktop. Selecting up an apple I attempted to sit on the only chair
available, the dreaded bean bag. Struggling to get comfortable while eating my
apple, a harsh crackle of a crushing water bottle made me jump out of my skin.

Stopping near the kitchen, she placed the water bottle on
the work surface. “Sitting down on the job?” She said with a smile.

“Just having five a minute break.....slave driver”. I
grinned back.

Striding the length of the room in only a few paces she
turned sitting on top of me nearly making me choke on my apple as I blurt out.
“Ahhh!”

“It’s not my fault you’re sat on the only chair”.

“You could at least turn around”. I managed to splutter out.

Letting out a deep breath, she got up, turned and straddled
me fixing her eyes on me while resting a hand on my shoulder lowering herself
down to sit on me. Keeping her eyes locked on mine as I finished my apple
placing it on a nearby cardboard box with one hand while wiping my mouth with
the other.

“So?”

“So?” I repeat as I moved my hands along the inside of her
thighs leaving one hand in her crotch I gently rubbed the front seem of her
jeans, while moving my other hand to her back preventing her from getting away.
Leaning down she gently nibbled my bottom
lip kissing me softly then
deeper as our tongues met. Slowly I edged her backwards lowering her to the
floor transferring my weight on top of her, my hand travelled up her ribcage to
her full bra as she let out a gasp as my own breathing became more ragged. She
quickly flipped me over lying half on top of me, her hand moved down to my
crotch rubbing gently as she kissed my neck I tried to stifle a low moan
escaping my lips.

I was barely aware of Sam whispering in my ear over the
sound of my heartbeat. “Mike’s dropping off the mattress soon”. Deciding to
ignore her words, pulling her towards me kissing her
again.

Gently unbuttoning my jeans I felt her hand slip down
rubbing the front of my underwear, my moans continue encouraging her as she
slides her hand underneath finding my wetness, circling my clit with her finger
making me moan louder against her kisses, I felt her exploring me. Suddenly she
stops, her attention drawn away, seeing her looking towards the front door
followed by a loud knock. We are frozen, then the jangle of keys. “Shit...he’s
got keys”.

Great timing once again Mike, Sam whips her hand back
getting to her feet heading towards the door. Leaving me frantically buttoning
my jeans trying to regulate my breathing, getting to my feet picking up any
tool handy to try and look industrious.

“Hi Mike sorry....I thought I heard the door we were in the
bathroom finishing off the painting.” I looked on as Mike dragged in the
mattress still in its plastic wrapping, Josh appeared on the other end
stabilising it, I realise they must have carried it from the hostel across
town. Moving it into the bedroom placing it on the bed frame, leaving Sam and I
to remove the plastic sheeting. Sam catches my eye giving me a quick eyebrow
flick at the now fully assembled bed.

“So Alex?....Is all the DIY work done?” Mike asks from the
doorway.

“Umm yeah I think so just a bit of shelving to put up I think”.
I turned to look at Sam for conformation, we both look at her noticing she has
a blank look in her eyes and her hand to her face, just as I am about to call
her name I realise she is sniffing her fingers. Hearing the lull in
conversation, realising we are looking at her and smiles innocently.
“Sorry....what’s that?”

Unbelievable, I tried to hide the shocked look on my face as
I continue my conversation with Mike. “I...I’ve fixed the bathroom door where
it was sticking, and the kitchen cabinets....so I think it’s just a bit more
painting and the shelving in the bathroom and sitting room then we’re done”.

“Great it looks so much better than when I saw it the first
time”.

Folding up the plastic sheeting, I watch as Sam leaves the
room with Josh offering to make tea and show him around the flat, Mike walks
across the room with his hand outstretched to take the plastic sheeting off me.
