Two babies. My word, what on earth was Kayla thinking. At this moment, I feel terrible for how I treated her; how I reacted to her about sleeping with Vinny. I can’t believe she would want me to be Rose’s mother.

I hate the circumstances surrounding how this came to be—her death—but I’ll make the most of this. I’ll raise Rose, as my apology to Kayla. At this point, this is the only way I can.

There is a knock on my front door as I’m putting Rose down in the pack-n-play I set up in my spare bedroom. I cover her up and close the door quietly. Making my way down the stairs, I realize I haven’t changed since I got home from the club. I must look like a mess.

Slowly, I open the front door, fighting my sleepiness. “Hey,” Vinny says when I open the door.

“Hey,” I say softly. He just lost Kayla. I don’t even know at this point who he actually loved, if he loved both of us, or who he loved more. I take him in; he looks haggard, sad.

“Come in,” I say, opening the door wider.

“Where is she?” his gruff voice asks.

“I just put her down. She’s in the room next to Elizabeth’s,” I tell him.

His shoulders sag, and he goes to the couch and sits down. “When will she be up?” he asks.

I shake my head. “I don’t know. I just put her down,” I tell him. I sit down on the other side of the couch. “I’m sorry about what happened to Kayla, Vinny.”  I feel so bad for him. I can’t believe this has happened. I want so badly to comfort him, to ease his pain. I have to put my feelings aside for now.

He snorts. “Sure you are. You’re probably thrilled she’s dead.”

“Excuse me? I never wanted her dead. As much as I hated her, that’s something I wouldn’t wish on anyone,” I tell him, getting angry. Wow, is that how he really feels about me? Am I that horrible of a person?

“Sure, Lilly. You hate me and her so much, you probably wanted it. More than anything, you probably fuckin’ wanted it,” Vinny shouts at me.

“Fuck you!” I yell at him. “You fucked around on me with her. I have every right to the feelings I have. Every fucking right. But I never wished her dead!” I scream.

“Fuck you, Lilly,” he says, clenching his jaw. “I’ll be back in about an hour to get my daughter. I sure as fuck ain’t gonna let you raise her. You’re nothing but a hateful bitch.”

I take in his words like a blow. “Well, I guess that answers the questions in my head,” I tell him, choking back a sob.

“What questions,” he asks, his eyes narrowing on me.

“Who you actually loved,” I spit out. “I wasted years on you. Years. All those years, I could have moved on, found someone else, so thanks for wasting my life,” I tell him with as much venom as I can force out. “I’ll call you when she wakes up. Get out.”

Vinny’s face pales. “Lilly, I’m sorry. I didn’t...” he starts.

I shake my head and get off the couch. “Get out,” I say, pointing to the door.

“Lilly, I didn’t love her. I cared for her, yes, but I only ever loved you,” he says, pleading with me. “I shouldn’t have said that shit I just spouted out,” he says, swallowing.

“I don’t care. You just dealt the final blow. I’m done, washing my hands of you. I’ll always be there for Rose if she needs a mother, but I’m glad we had this mind blowing conversation. Opened my eyes hugely. Now, get out.” I can’t believe this shit. He really has a lot of nerve. After everything we have been through, I can’t, I just can’t…

Vinny looks wrecked, but right now, I don’t care. When he gets to the door, he turns around and looks at me, his eyes almost pleading. “I want to respect Kayla’s wishes with you raising her as your own. I can’t raise her by myself, Lilly.”

“That’s fine. We can work something out later on,” I tell him. I won’t punish the baby because of the things Vinny does and says.

His jaw clenches, and he leaves, slamming the door behind him. I hear a loud popping sound, so I rush to the front window and peek out. Vinny is ravaged. His gun is out, and he’s firing at his truck. He sags to the ground, letting out a roar.

I slowly step away from the window and put the blinds back in place with tears streaming down my face. How did all this happen? This is such a mess.

I pick up my phone, trying to get my crying under control, and dial Jasper’s number.

“Yeah? Everything okay, Lilly-pad?” he asks when he answers.

“Jasper,” I whisper out. “You need to come over. Vinny is losing it outside right now,” I say, my voice cracking as I tell him what I saw out my window.

“Okay, I’ll be there as soon as I can. You stay in the house,” Jasper says, hanging up.

I go back to the window and look out. Watching Vinny self-destruct like this, I can’t handle it. It hurts, watching him feeling this way over Kayla. I have never seen Vinny like this.  I don’t care what he says; he had to feel something for her. They made a child together. This is killing him. I don’t know what to do for him. I don’t know how to fix this. I hear Jasper’s bike. He can help Vinny. Right now, all I can do is take care of his girls.

I go upstairs to my room to get changed. My mom should be here in about an hour to bring home Elizabeth.  I put on a comfortable shirt and jeans.  Rose starts to cry, and I realize I know nothing about this little girl other than that she is my daughter’s sister, and I am going to be her mom. I will raise her as my own. I know what I said before, but things change.

Taking my rage out on my truck, I don’t feel any better. Kneeling on the ground, I just feel like giving up. How could Lilly think I loved Kayla and not her? I get it, I do, but I have been fighting for her ever since she found out about everything.

And the things I said to her in there… What the fuck is wrong with me? I slam my fist into the pavement, breaking the skin over my knuckles. Fucking Kayla... I don’t understand why someone would hurt her.  I know Lilly will step up for Rose and do right by both of my girls. Someone is going to pay for this shit. No one takes from me, hurts my friends and family, and gets away with it. My grief and anger consume me, burning through my veins.

I don’t know how long I’m on the ground when I hear a bike coming down the street and stop at the end of the driveway.

“Zippo,” Angels calls.

I look up and see him coming toward me.

“Feel any better now?” he asks, looking at the bullet holes in my truck. He bends down, taking my gun. Fuck, I am an idiot. I hope no one called the cops, so I don’t have to explain this shit. I’ll apologize to Lilly later.  I’m in no shape to see her or my girls right now.

I snort. “Not really.”

“Come on. I’ll call Eden and tell her I’m not taking the kids today. Need some guy time,” he says, grabbing my arm to help me stand up.

“I’m not riding bitch with you,” I tell him, cracking a small smile.

“No, we’re gonna take your truck. I’ll park my bike here. I’m sure Lilly won’t mind,” he tells me. “Good thing you only shot the fuck outta your door. It’s still driveable.”

I climb inside my truck and start driving once Jasper gets in. I don’t know where and the fuck I’m going, so I just keep driving and listen as Jasper talks. I think he needs to let out some frustration as much as I do.

“We are quite the fucked up pair, aren’t we, man,” he states, and I shrug. “Shit could be worse, I guess,” I reply, staring straight ahead while my knuckles grip the steering wheel. “What you gonna do about Eden? Still not willing to give in and be with her?”

“Fuck, I don’t know. It still doesn’t change the shit she’s done, man. She kept my kids from me. I just can’t see past that, ya know.”

“Yeah, man, I feel you.” I open up and tell Jasper everything about Lilly and Kayla.

It feels good to get it all off my chest, to talk to someone other than Kayla about shit. We drive around for another hour or so, just fucking talking. Seems we both had a lot to say. I drop Jasper at his truck. He says he’ll get his bike later, so I head back to the clubhouse to figure out what in the hell is going on. Someone is fucking with us hard. Thank God they didn’t hurt Lilly or my girls. Fuck, what if they go after Lilly next?

It’s been three weeks since Kayla’s death, and the boss says now’s the time to get the ball rolling for the takeover. I watch Hilary, Eden, and Lilly walk out of Eden’s house, all of them dressed up for a night out. Mrs. Shepard came over to Eden’s place to watch Glenna and the twins. Lilly dropped Elizabeth and Rose off to her mom for the night.

I pick up my phone and call Roni. “Yes?”

“It’s time. Girls are going to a club tonight, and you’re to meet up with them. Try to make nice,” I inform her. “You need to get them out the back doors of the club an hour after they arrive. Don’t care how you do it, just do it. We get them tonight.”

“Okay,” she whispers out. Bitch has been trying to do anything she can to get out from our control, but it’s either this or death. She doesn’t have a choice.

I hang up without another word and follow slowly behind the cab they get into to head to the club.

Once I watch them enter the building, I drive around to the back alley. Parking the van by the back doors, I pull out my phone and hit dial.

“You have them?” he asks.

“No, but in one hour, they’ll be in the back of this van,” I let him know.

“Good. Finally, we can get this shit going,” he says before hanging up.

I put my cell back in my pocket and wait.

Finally, a night out. The girls and I all agreed that at least once a month, we need one night for us. Thank God we have amazing people to help us out.

After a few dances, we go to the bar to order another drink, when Roni walks up to us. I feel Eden stiffen, and Hilary, I can tell she’s starting to go into bitch mode.

I intervene before anything happens. “Hey, Roni,” I say with a fake smile.

She gives me a small hesitant smile. “Hey, Lilly, Monica is out back. She’s really sick,” she starts. “I don’t want to get her vomit on my new fabulous dress, so I was hoping you three could help me out,” she says.

I roll my eyes. Of course she would say that. Hilary speaks up. “Yeah, we’ll help Monica, and then when she’s fuckin’ sober we’ll coach her on how to never fuckin’ go near you again, family to you or not.”

Roni rolls her eyes dramatically. “Follow me,” she shouts over the music.

I know Monica is going through some shit right now, with Eden being back and losing Jasper. I get that, but her falling into old shit isn’t the way she should be going about things. I miss the friendship we built, so of course I follow Roni outside to help her. Maybe I’ll try to talk some sense into her.

We get outside, but I don’t see anyone. All I see is a blue cargo van. “Where is she, Roni?” I ask her, starting to get pissed.

Just then, the side door opens on the van. “Hey, ladies,” Breaks says, sneering at us.

“What are you doing here? I didn’t realize Jasper was still having you guys on protection duty,” Eden says.

“Oh, baby, I ain’t here for him. I’m here for you three,” he says. He pulls out a gun and points it at us. We all go still. “Thanks, Roni, you did your job. Now get in the front. You three, get in, now.”

“What are you doing?” Eden whispers to him.

“Get in, and you’ll all find out.”

“I’m not going anywhere with you,” Hilary says, cocking her hip and crossing her arms.

“Get in, or I swear a bullet will go in ya,” Breaks says, getting pissed.

“Let’s just do as he says,” I tell the girls quietly.

Hilary shoots me a dirty look. “No, I’m not getting in,” she declares.

Breaks’ gun goes off by Hilary’s foot, and she shrieks. “Okay, okay, I’m getting in,” she says, her voice shaking.

We follow her in, and he shuts the door after he climbs in with us. I try to see who is driving, but I can’t get a good look.

Twenty minutes later, we’re all huddled together to keep from flying all over the back of the van, when we come to a stop and Breaks climbs out of the van.

“Get out,” Breaks demands, pointing the gun at us.

We slowly climb out and look around. I recognize this place from when we were kids. Momma B would bring us up here for camping. Back then, though, there wasn’t a cabin, but now there is.

“You’re lucky the boss lady loves you three. She’s the only reason you ain’t dead,” Breaks grumbles out just as the front door of the cabin opens, and Momma B walks out.

“What?” I say shocked.

“Surprised?” she asks with an evil grin.
