**Note from the author**

As a victim of physical and mental abuse I know the struggle, the questions, the second guessing and the helpless feeling a woman goes through.  Walking away was the hardest thing for me, because…he loved me.  Or so he said.  With the help of some very good, understanding friends and law enforcement I was able to finally walk away.  The healing process sucks!  But you will get better.  Don’t second guess your choice to leave; no human deserves to go through the abuse.  You are loved, you deserve better.  Don’t let the guilt trip from the partner stop you, don’t let the iron fist rule your life.  If a family member, friend, or stranger offers to help—let them.

Hold your head high and know you deserve better!! XO

Prologue

If somebody would have told me this is how my life would turn out, never in a million years would I have believed them.

My entire life had been fucked up; starting with the day I was born.

The day I was born my parents gave me up for adoption.  From then on I bounced from foster home to foster home; some were good and some of them not so good.

I lived with the same family from the age of ten until I graduated high school.  They were one of the, not so good families. They were only being a foster home for the fucking money.  They had three of their own biological kids which made me the outsider, but yet, I was their little moneymaker.

My rational thoughts when I was thirteen was the money I had heard them talking about each month was to be used on me for clothes, school supplies, and anything else I would need. But…that’s not how they looked at it.  I didn’t get new anything, everything was a hand me down usually torn, stained, and to small.

I had very few actual friends all through school, I wasn’t allowed to hang out on the weekends with friends, instead I had to stay home and play babysitter for their kids that were younger than me.  When I turned sixteen I asked if I could get a job, to which they both said I could.  Right away I knew they were thinking they would get to keep my paychecks.  When I did get a job as a dishwasher for a local bar/restaurant I asked my boss to pay me in cash and only give me thirty dollars cash out of each paycheck.  At first he was confused and tried to protest until I explained why.

My one true friend was my boss, Albert. Every week he put my check in a lockbox that he had given me the only key to.  Every week my foster parents took twenty of my thirty dollars and told me it would help pay for groceries.  They had no idea that I was saving my paychecks, they thought that I was spending some of my earnings on drugs and alcohol.  Apparently that was what all teenage foster boys did.

One evening Albert called me out to the main dining area after I had put the last load of dishes away.

“I want you to meet somebody; I think he’ll be able to help you after you graduate.” He told me as I walked around the bar.

Sitting at a table were four guys drinking frosty mugs of beer.  “This is Bryan.” Albert said to them.

The one guy looked to be in his mid-thirty’s; he extended his hand to me.  “Bryan,” he nodded as I shook his hand.  “Lucifer, president of the Rail Rider’s MC.”

Motorcycle club seriously!? What the fuck
! I thought to myself, “Nice to meet you sir.” I shifted from one foot to the other.

“Sit down boy.” He pointed at the empty chair between the other two guys.  I looked at their black leather vests, a big patch with white letters stretched across their shoulders said
Rail Riders
.  “Albert’s explained your situation to me.  First off let me say your foster parents are total assholes and I’m sorry you’re living in such a bad place.”

“Thanks?”  I said nervously and looked at the other guys.

“When do you turn eighteen, before or after you graduate?” Lucifer asked.

“One month after I graduate.”

Lucifer nodded his head and took a drink of his beer.  “You know a girl at school named Sydney?  She’s a few years under you.”

“Ah, no, I can’t say that I do.  I pretty much go to school do my work and leave.”

He nodded again, “Okay so,” he leaned his forearms on the table, “I’m here to offer you a place to live and work after school so you don’t end up on the streets.”

“Huh?  I mean, I’ve been saving my money…”

“Do you have family Bryan?  Friends?” one of the other guys asked.  I looked at the name on his vest,
Boots
.

“No sir,” I looked down at the table.

“Then it’s settled, you’ll prospect for our MC for one year after you turn eighteen.”  Lucifer spoke with authority.

“You do know I have no fucking idea what that is right?  I know what an MC is, I know how to mechanic on vehicles and motorcycles.”  I told him.  All the guys including Albert laughed.

“That just means you’re the Bitch of the bunch until they patch you in.  We’ve all done it with a few exceptions.” Albert slapped his hand down on to my shoulder.

And that’s how I got involved in the Rail Riders MC.  I wouldn’t change it for the world, they treated me like family from day one.  I’m not saying I liked some of the stupid shit they had me do, but, if I wanted patched in I had to do what needed to be done.  I quit working for Albert and started for the MC as a mechanic.

I met Lucifer’s daughter Sydney and her friend Theresa one day when they came into the club house.  I vaguely remembered seeing them around school, but then again I didn’t pay attention to many of the other students.

“HEY!” the small beautiful brunette walked up to me.  “I’m Sydney.” She extended her hand.

“Bryan.” I replied and smiled.

“I’m Theresa, I remember seeing you around school!” she smiled and stuck her hand out for me.  The very second our hands met, we both felt it.  Heat and electricity from each other’s touch, it was something I’d never felt before.

I grinned at her; I could tell she felt the same sensations.  I pulled my hand away and stuffed it in my pocket.  I had been warned that they were off limits, especially Sydney. “Right, so uh, what are you two up to today?”  I couldn’t take my eyes off of Theresa.  Her long blond hair was in a ponytail with a large blue and silver ribbon tied around it to match their cheerleading uniforms.  Sydney cleared her throat and smiled.

“Dad said you need to give us a ride to the school, my car won’t start.” She held a set of car keys out to me.  “When you get back you’re supposed to look at it and see what’s wrong with it.”

“Okay.” I narrowed my eyes at her.  If this was a set up from the other members I was going to be pissed.  My cell phone rang I pulled it out of my pocket.  Lucifer was calling, “Yeah Prez?”

“Prospect…” he knew I hated being called that so he laughed, “I need you to take those two overly hyper cheerleaders to the school.”

“I’m on it.” I stood from the bar stool.

“Don’t ever use those words in the same sentence as my daughter and you ever again.” He clipped out and hung up.

We exited the club house and went to my pickup, and piled in to it.  Theresa sat in the middle and Sydney by the door.  I gripped the steering wheel so tight my knuckles were turning white, and my fingers itched to see how soft those toned legs of Theresa’s would feel.  The thoughts that were running through my mind were nothing short of X-rated, and then I remembered that she was only a high school kid.  Sydney cranked the music up, both the girls sang along with Hinder as we cruised down the highway.

That was the day that I met the woman that I would eventually find to be my one true love.

~~~~
Nothing about Theresa’s world and mine were the same.  We started dating while she and Sydney were away at college, her family welcomed me into theirs with open arms.  I got along great with both of her parents too.
Nothing, and I do mean nothing, could have prepared me for the day she told me she was pregnant.  Theresa was scared shitless and so was I.  She and Sydney actually found out on the same day that they were expecting and that their due dates were only days apart.
Absolutely nothing could have prepared me for the day that I was finally able to hold our daughter in my arms.  The delivery part sure sucked since Theresa’s pegged me in the head with a phone, then apologized ten seconds later.  When the doctor put our baby girl in my arms, her tiny fingers wrapped around my thumb, she had rosy cheeks, her little pink lips pouting showing what would be perfect little dimples.  I broke down and cried and so did Theresa, come to find out Cade did too when his son Ryder was born an hour earlier.
“We did good.” Theresa said from the hospital bed.
“We did, didn’t we.” I replied.  “God I love you.” I told her.
She wiped a tear from her face, “I love you too.”
Becoming a dad was flat out fucking amazing.  It’s amazing how much a person can fall in love with such a tiny bundle of human.  One night while I was rocking Harley to sleep I stared down at her, she was a spitting image of Theresa.  Then I started thinking about my own childhood, how could my parents not want me, do they ever wonder how I turned out, how I’m doing in life, or where I’m at? Were the questions that I often asked myself.  Theresa had offered to help me find them but it just wasn’t something high on my priority list.  Protecting my wife and daughter were my two top priorities in life.
Yes my wife! A year after Harley was born, in true Sydney and Theresa fashion they shared a wedding day.  Cade and I drew the line after that.  By pure fate did our children share the same birthdate.  It was pure annoyance that we all had to share the same wedding date.  Like Cade said to me that day though, “This way we can remind each other when our anniversary is, or we’ll both be in the dog house.”
