When You’re Mine (Mine #3)

Chapter One

My head throbbed persistently at my temples and tension mounted at the base of my neck. The pressure was increasing and the pain was becoming worse. Twenty two out of tune children sang gregariously out of tune five feet of me, fueling the looming pain. Reaching for my bag, I fished out the bottle of pills the doctor had prescribed. I’d seen every doctor and specialist, and still no solid answers. Nothing worked. It had become a weekly hell I suffered whenever my brain felt it necessary to punish me, which was happening more and more often. I used to only get one or two a month. Now, I was getting them once a week. And the only way to truly manage the pain was in a quiet dark room. Nausea, vomiting, and pain that would cripple the strongest of men would be upon me within the next few hours. Thankfully, I only had to endure this shit for thirty more minutes… and then a weekend of rest.

By the time the bell rang, the pressure had eased considerably. It was a rare occurrence, but sometimes the headaches would back off, sufficing only to inflict a mere dull ache for a couple of hours.

That
…I could handle.

On the way home I decided I was brave enough to stop for a bite to eat. I wasn’t up for cooking and sometimes a glass of wine mixed with the medication helped me sleep better. Walking into the crowded pub, it hit me that it was Friday night. I was about to turn around and leave, opting for a drive through instead, when I heard someone calling my name. Whipping around, I searched for the deep sexy voice making love to my name.

“Tabitha,” I felt him before I saw him.

His big soft hand cupped my elbow gently but the electricity in his touch was anything but subtle. Looking up, I found the eyes of a man I’d met only once, a man whose eyes still haunted my dreams, eyes as fierce as an eagle, but the color of sapphire. Removing his hand from my elbow, I watched with rapt appreciation as he buried it into the pocket of his dress pants. Swallowing hard, I admired the rest of him.

The dark suit was tailor made to fit his lean body perfectly. He had on a white collared shirt and his periwinkle tie was loosely knotted at the base of his neck. His dirty blonde hair was longer that the last time I saw him and the way it curled along his neck made my fingers itch to touch it.

“Barrett,” It had been a year since I’d seen him. Madison had dragged me along for drinks once, to this very pub to be exact.

He smiled and my fluttering heart skipped a beat, just before it sent a rush of heat between my thighs. Damn, could he be any hotter? “I thought that was you.” His assessing blue eyes caressed my body, distrusting heat from my head to my feet. “I was meeting some clients for drinks, but they had to cancel. I was thinking of ordering some dinner. Care to join me?” One hand left the confines of his pocket, gesturing to his table.

No.

Say No!

“Sure.”

Shit, what the hell was I doing?

Madison had been with him, my friend, my dear sweet friend. This was breaking all kinds of girl code rules, whatever the fuck.

Right?

We were just having dinner. Nothing was wrong with two people sharing a meal together. Right?

Right.

Sliding into the corner booth, I watched Barrett remove his charcoal coat before sliding into the seat across from me. He rolled up his sleeves his shirt, and then he tugged at the knot of his tie, sliding it from his neck.  You would have thought he was stripping down naked. I could hardly breathe and my wet pussy was proof that the simple task of finding comfort had suddenly become erotic. Barrett took a sip from his Sam Adams before he unbuttoned the top two buttons of his shirt.

Fuck.

Setting it down, he cleared his throat. “How have you been?”

I needed something to drink. My mouth was so dry. Wonder if he would let me drink that beer from his mouth.

Yeah, I needed to get laid.

“Good. And you.” It was hard to think, much less talk. I didn’t really want to talk anyway. I could think of a million other things I could do with this man besides talk.

“Good. Busy as hell. Are you still teaching?”

“Yes,” I answered, looking over the menu. I couldn’t look at him. I was too horny to look at him. I might crawl over this table and lick him. Or suck him off. I closed my eyes and shuttered a breath.

“Music, right?”

I laid down my menu, looking into his eyes. Now, I was impressed, more than impressed. He’d been completely aloof the first time I met him. I didn’t think he had heard a damn thing I’d said.

“Yes,” I gave him a genuine smile.

“Do you say
yes
to everything?” Tilting his head, a wicked grin darkened his marvelous face. He was that of pure male perfection. His blue eyes sparkled beneath the overhead light like the sun reflecting off the surface of the ocean, but when they darkened that way. Like he had some kind of deep dark secret he only wanted to share with me, I had to pinch my thighs together to alleviate the burn.  All I could think about was getting beneath him. I hadn’t had sex with a man in two weeks. I hadn’t been properly fucked in months. I was beyond due for both. We could go back to his place, or mine and I could let him fuck me nine ways to Sunday and be on my merry way.

Dammit to hell.

I couldn’t sleep with Barrett. What the hell was I thinking? Not after he’d fucked my best friend.

“No.”

“Damn, that could have would have worked out perfect.” He smiled and I swear it lit up the whole damn place. A tiny dimple dented the top of his left cheek and I completely forgot about the reasons why I should not throw myself at him like the deviant slut I was. Most of the time, I was pretty suave in the powers of my seduction. I knew what men wanted and when I wanted a man, I knew what I had to do to get him. The only thing that was stopping me now was…was…

Inhaling a deep breath, I summoned my inner slut, the one that didn’t give a fuck what others thought or the consequences of my actions, the one that didn’t give a rat’s ass about anything except pleasure. I leaned forward, my arms folded on the table in front of me. “Fuck the small talk, Barrett. Why don’t you tell me the real reason you wanted me to join you for dinner.”

He had the nerve to look surprised at first. There were only two reasons why he invited me to join him. He was either interested in knowing about Madison or he was interested in me. There was only one thing I wanted, and it was beneath this table, imprisoned in those impressive pants. I silently wondered if he could fuck a woman like she needed to be fucked, if he would take me from behind or need to look into my eyes. Would he fuck me with such erratic force, it would leave me in an orgasmic coma?
