Ramses unfazed grabs Kenjis foot and twists it, sending him flying into the wall. I am up now and I race for Ramses while his back is turned; I wrap my hands around his face and twist with all of my strength , I don’t stop twisting until I hear his head pop off, and its dangling in my hands. His body drops to the floor. My composure regained; I hold his head by the hair, keeping the dripping blood from hitting my boots. Kenji is standing next to me, and we watch as Ramses body twitches on the floor, his hands searching and dragging him across the carpet. Kenji wastes no time and dismembers him limb from limb. He is swift and accurate; the blood of his enemy dripping from his face when he has finished. We toss all of Ramses body parts onto the fire; the last thing we throw onto the fire is his head.

I add some gasoline and we watch the flames roar high in the large fireplace. Ramses at last is no more. When the flames have died down Kenji collects the ashes, he says we must scatter them in the wind, so that he can’t be resurrected again. As we march through the halls of the compound I see bodies littering the floor around almost every corner. Kenji was very busy indeed when he shifted; we are able to walk through the compound unmolested.” You did very good back there Eva. I almost feel like I didn’t do enough.”

“He killed all of my friends Kenji, vampires that I have known since I was first turned and brought into the fold of the coven. Vincent was my friend; it was he who found me wandering the dark streets murdering the homeless to feed myself. Now he is gone. Ramses had to pay; a head for a head.” “I listened out for any signs of life, but it was futile. None were here expect the Ament, who worked for Ramses. They are all dead now, I promise you.” I hold the vase taken from the desk of Ramses, now holding his ashes and I spit into it. “Let us scatter this demons ash to the wind, and be done with it then.” “I think that we must go to Japan and awaken Isis; I believe that she would like to do this herself perhaps.” Before we leave I stop at my old room in Sector 2, I pull on my black leather body suit and wrap the harness on that holds my guns and knives. I throw on some lipstick, and grab a few extra bullets, as I say goodbye to the compound forever. “What about Invictus Eva?” Kenji asks me. “Invictus will keep while we are away; I will lock the compound down no one will even know it is here. If we should need it we can always come back.” “To Japan then.”

We arrived in Japan a week later, Kenji has summoned Isis through her slumber and we make our way through misty jade mountains to reach those who have been keeping watch over her. When we finally come to the village of caves hewn in rock we are met by a band of silent tall vampires, the Sennin, Kenji calls them. They do not want to let us pass however and they have their weapons drawn; Kenji produces a gold ring with a large ruby in the center and hands it to one of the Sennin. He takes it and walks away; soon an old man with long white hair comes out from the caves and greets us. He walks up to Kenji and looks deep in his eyes, they say nothing, but I can tell they are communicating.  After a short time we are lead up a steep long path through the mountains to a small cave hidden behind moss, vines, and tumbled rock. Kenji leads me forward through the opening; the path through the tunnel is winding and narrow and after thirty minutes we finally reach the end.

On a marble slab in the middle of the room, sits Isis, a white linen dress hanging from her shoulders, her long hair, covering her eyes. Kenji walks forward and on bended knee presents her with the vase filled with Ramses remains. “He is dead your highness and you are now safe.” I stand behind Kenji with my head bowed. “Eva, Kenji has shown me how brave you were when you fought. He showed me how you avenged us all. Come my daughter.” I walk up to her and she takes my hand, “You are a true daughter of Egypt, a better warrior I have yet seen. You faced your adversary and won, even though you knew you might perish.” Isis bites her wrist and blood flows freely from the wound. “Drink my daughter; drink so that I may bestow upon you some of my own magic.” I am shocked at this but I do her bidding and drink.

Her blood is creamy on my tongue and as rich as wine. I close my eyes as I savor a deliciousness I have never known before. When she pulls her wrist gently away, I feel for the first time completely full, my lust for blood is no more. “You no longer need blood to survive, and the sunlight shall not harm you any longer. This gift I bestow upon you for your help in saving my life and the lives of all my children.” I don’t know what to say to her, I have not felt this satisfied since I was last human. I drop to my knees and offer her my thanks. “This gift is too great for me, thank you my lady.”  “Kenji you have done well, I can finally be at peace, and if I have need of you again I will call upon you. Be safe in your journeys.” With that we are dismissed and we retreat from the cave.

As we walk down the path through the forest, I feel peaceful and at one with the earth around me. Kenji stops on the trail and turns to me. The look in his eyes is one I have never seen before. The forest around us hums with the sounds of birds and insects, a heavy mist gathers around our ankles. He pulls me closer to him, never looking away from me. “A piece of you has stayed with me when I shifted with you Eva. When I cannot see you I feel you; it’s as if you’re engrained in the very fiber of my being. You are dancing through me a living breathing thing. The thought of you in danger fills me with a black rage; when you are not near me, my soul searches for you in the darkness. I know I can’t face this world without you by my side Eva; tell me if you don’t feel the same and I will never bring it up again.” I touch his cheek with my palm and I brush a stray hair from his face. “I feel the same way, I didn’t want to say anything to you before, I was sure you didn’t feel the same way. You are my other half; the part of me that stayed with you is as numerous as the stars. I feel your spirit clutching at me in the dark, a whisper of you that is always with me.” He pulls me closer to him, his kiss tender and warm. His breath mingles with mine and again we dance the dance of two souls forever entwined. I almost in his kiss as he pulls my body closer to his; I feel him changing and I smile, as we melt away into the mist.
