CHAPTER ONE

I
WANTED
TO
RUN
to him.

Every muscle in my body tensed, ready to go to Asher. Was he bleeding? I couldn't see. Was he safe?

The big bikers crowded around him, blocking Asher from my view. But they weren't bothering with him anymore. Their fight was over. Instead, they shouted.

"What the fuck was that!"

That will last thing I heard before it all went dark. I should have noticed. I should have sensed
something
, but my mind was only focused on Asher.

So when the rough cloth filled my mouth, I was shocked. I tried to scream but the sounds were muffled by the fabric, trapped in my throat. Before I could move, a blindfold wrapped around my face and a bag slipped over my head.

I couldn't see. I couldn't speak. I could barely even breathe.

Someone grabbed me, wrapping their arm around my waist and lifting me off the ground. It was almost like I was a rag doll, thrown over their shoulder.

At first, I was too shocked to react. It didn't seem real. How did everything go from beating the Tarantulas, to the safe house burning down, to Asher being shot? How was I gagged and blindfolded when everything was supposed to have been okay?

That's when I threw my first punch. My fists met with hard leather and muscle, but that didn't stop me. I kicked. I could hear whoever was holding me groan as my fingers dug into his flesh and scraped. I wanted to draw blood. I wanted to break bones.

But that wasn't going to happen. Rope was wrapped around my wrists and ankles, chafing against my skin. I tried to struggle, but I was tied up tight.

The next thing I knew bikes were roaring. I thought that it was the Dark Riders. Maybe they were coming to save me. Maybe they had noticed what had happened and were coming to kick some ass.

I waited, hoping to hear familiar voices but there was nothing. Someone dropped me onto a bike, arranging me so that I wouldn't fall. And then we started to move.

The acrid smell of burning wood and plastic grew more and more faint. I didn't even know where I was. All I knew was that I was on the back of a bike traveling farther and farther away from the Dark Riders.

Tears welled in my eyes and wet the blindfold. The fabric stuck to my eyelids and cheeks as I cried. In the darkness, the same scene played in my mind over and over again.

The fire. A boom. Asher's fall.

CHAPTER TWO

T
HE
MOTORCYCLES
JERKED
AS
they traveled over the rough road. It jostled me, making me jump on the back of the bike. It felt like I was constantly on the verge of falling, and tumbling down into the asphalt speeding past us.

By the time the motorcycles stopped, my whole body hurt. The ropes had cut into my skin. The friction rubbed away my skin and made irritated spots that burned any time I moved.

Even though I have no idea where it was, I was happy just to stop moving for a moment. But then we were going again. Finally the engines cut and feet stomped on the ground around me.

Someone lifted me into the air and threw me over their shoulder again. This time I didn't have enough energy to fight. What could I do, knee him to death?

A door creaked and it sounded like we were moving across wooden planks. Another door and my body jerked. It felt like we were moving downstairs.

Finally, we stopped. For the first time, I heard them.

"Throw her down in here," a voice said. It sounded like it was gruff from years of smoking cigarettes.

"Should I take the blindfold off?" another voice asked. This one was younger, more uncertain.

"No," the first voice said. "Leave her."

Then I fell. My shoulder hit first, crashing into the hard ground below me. My hands were still tied, so I couldn't even brace myself. I screamed, but the gag muffled my sounds again.

Someone laughed and a door slammed shut.

For a while, I listened. I couldn't hear any other voices, just the sound of my own breathing and my heart beating. After all the noise and confusion, it was eerie.

I tried again to get out of my bonds, but all I managed to do was rub my wrists raw. Dank and musty smells filled my nose. Wet dirt clung to my skin as I lay on the ground.

After a while, I struggled to sit up. My clothes became caked with muck in the process, but at least my face wasn't on the ground anymore. Still, in the complete darkness even far off noises made me jump.

Then the door opened. I heard its high creak followed by the sounds of footsteps coming into the room. The majority of them stopped, but one continued walking towards me.

A hand touched my skin and I jumped. It reached out again and grabbed me, pulling me closer with a strong grip. I felt the touch move down my body, grazing over my skin and clothes.

It made my stomach churn. Who was touching me? Some
new
biker thug? I wanted to reach out and punch whoever it was in the face, but there was nothing I could do about it. Finally, the hand lingered at my feet.

With a tug, the ropes came loose.

It took me a moment to even realize what had happened.

A gravelly low voice came out of the silence. "Now, don't kick."

The hands moved up my body and around my back. They pressed me forward and I fell onto a broad chest. Leather pressed against my cheek, and I smelled smoked wood and sweat on his skin.

The ropes around my wrists fell open. Quickly, I brought them to my chest and tried to nurse my sore hands back to life. They burned with each movement.

"Almost done," the same voice said.

His hands moved up my body again. They brushed against the sides of my chest and I flinched, worried about where they might go next. The man laughed, but didn't stop. His hand traveled up my shoulders, across my neck, and finally to my face.

The light was blinding when the bag and blindfold finally came off.

"There you are," the man in front of me said.

He was crouched low, his face at the same level as mine. His grey eyes looked me over, but I couldn't tear my eyes away from the large spider tattooed in the middle of his chest.

The man smiled and ran his hands through his dark hair.

"Nice," he said, "but not exactly his type."

"
Who's
type?" I asked.

"Wild's type, of course," he said.

My eyes widened. Hadn't he been waiting for me? How many other girls had he been with to have a
type
?

"Oh, that's cute," the guy said. "You thought you were the only one? Wild is a
biker
after all. You know what bikers are like."

Something twisted in the pit of my stomach. He had to be lying. Asher would never be like that. Right?

"Around here, they call me Venom," he said. He came close and stroked my cheek. "And what's your name, pretty thing?"

I spit, the liquid splashing in his face. Venom didn't flinch. He only wiped himself dry with his sleeve.

Venom's other hand jumped out, his fingers wrapping tight around my throat as he threw me to the ground. I gasped for breath.

"I understand that we haven't been properly acquainted, so you might have thought you could get away with that kind of shit," he said. "But I'm the fucking president of this motorcycle club and no bitch is going to spit in my face. I'll let you off this time, but there will be no next time."

Venoms hand tightened even more around my throat. It felt like he was crushing it.

"Now. I'll ask you again," he said. "
What. Is. Your. Name.
"

I could barely push the words out. The sound struggled to get past my lips.

"Lily."

As soon as I said it, he dropped me. I coughed and rubbed my throat with my hands, taking huge gulps of air to refill my lungs.

"Well,
Lilly
, I brought you some food."

Honestly, it looked beautiful. He brought out a plate with a long BLT sub and some potato chips. Next to it was a can of Coke. After a few days living on the Dark Riders' emergency rations, it was the most delicious thing I'd ever seen.

My mouth watered, and moved to the sub, but then I stopped. Why should I take food from this guy? He could have poisoned it. I don't even know what he
wants
with me. I grabbed the food and threw it on the floor.

"Ah, so you're going to play it brave?" Venom said.

I didn't answer him. Venom took the can of Coke and downed it in two gulps. He crushed it with one hand and threw the mangled aluminum at my feet.

"Let's see how long that lasts."

CHAPTER THREE

V
ENOM
GOT
UP
AND
left with the other guys behind him. The door slammed as he shut it. I looked at the floor. They hadn't even taken the trash with them, so the smell of the wasted bacon, lettuce, and tomatoes, taunted me.

It was fine. It was only going to be a short time. The Dark Riders were going to save me. Definitely. All I had to do was wait.

The first few hours were the worst. It was hard to get my mind off the hunger that gripped my body. It felt as if something was clawing inside of me, making my stomach scream out. Even my throat went dry. Even a drop of soda seemed like a delicious thing.

I tried to hold out for as long as I could, but eventually I couldn't hold it back anymore. At least I was able to make it to a corner of the small room, but that didn't hide the stench of the warm yellow liquid as it flowed out of my body.

It was impossible to tell if it was day or night. Wooden boards completely covered the windows so that no light could get in. There was only the constant flickering of the fluorescent bulbs above me.

I forced myself to sleep. It was hard, with no blanket, not even a jacket to cover me. But sleep was better than the gnawing in my gut.

Unfortunately, the sleep seemed only to last a moment before I woke up to the blazing lights above me. My head throbbed, pounding with pain. I barely wanted to open my eyes. There was nothing to see anyway.

My lips cracked. Every time I moved my mouth the dry skin split and I could taste blood on my tongue. Oh well. As least I was tasting
something
.

I played with the ring on my pinky, twisting it this way and that. Asher's voice came into my mind again.

"I wanted you to remember how I felt."

Even though it was just the other day, it already seemed so long ago. What was he doing now? Was he worried? Was he hurt?

Would he be on his bike, coming to save me like a night in shining armor? Or was it like Venom had said, and would Asher have already forgotten about me? Maybe someone else was already in his arms.

Hours passed. I still wasn't sure how many, but I was sure that I was tired. My body felt like it was eating itself from the inside out, and I barely even had enough energy to move around in the tiny, dirty little cell.
