W
hat the hell
are you doing here, Estée?” Dascha muttered as he began his sprint back across the bridge, once again into the mouth of danger. She was supposed to have left, damn it.

Grendel appeared to be deep in conversation with her, and as Dascha drew nearer his bloodlust increased. The man was handling her face, thrusting his own mere inches away from hers as though it was his right to put his filthy hands on her.

“Get your fucking paws off her,” he growled as he approached, mere seconds later. “You said you’d let her go. That was the fucking deal.”

“I say a great many things,” said Grendel, his hand still holding her jaw as his men grasped her arms, anchoring her in place. “I mean very few of them.”

“Let. Her. Go.”

“You know what? I don’t think I will. I think I’ll keep her. A tiger trophy for my wall.”

Once again, tourists were stopping to watch, then, moments later moving on as they found pigeons and other interesting things to gawk at.

“Estée, I told you to leave,” growled Dascha. “You shouldn’t have come here.”

“You want me to miss all the fun?” she asked, her voice tight in her throat. “I wouldn’t dream of it.”

Dascha ground his jaw once again, not sure if he was angry or pleased that she’d come looking for him. He turned once again to Grendel’s men. “Listen, Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Asshole, let her go, or I’ll take your spleens out. And just to make it more fun, I should tell you that I don’t have a scalpel or anaesthetic.”

The shifter closest to him turned his head and growled.

“Cool. A reaction. Come on, why don’t you try actually hurting me?” said Dascha.

“No,” said Estée. “Let them take me. Dascha, this was never your fight. Just go. This was all my doing from the beginning. It’s time for it to end.”

“If you think I’m leaving you with these three oxygen wasters, you have a pretty low opinion of me,” he replied.

“Listen to the lady, Dascha,” said Grendel. “She wants you to leave. And I would much prefer to keep her than to dispose of you. You’re free to go.”

Dascha sized up the situation: there was no way, even in wolf form, that he could take on these two men. But if he let Estée go he might lose her forever, and that was unacceptable, to put it mildly.

“Fine,” he said, backing away, hands up in submission. “Take her away.”

Estée looked at him, her eyes conveying a silent apology for her foolishness.

He watched the men lead her towards a perpendicular side street, where a large, black sedan sat tucked away from the crowds. As Grendel came close its driver emerged and opened the back door for him.

Dascha followed at a distance, formulating plan after plan, nothing working out in his mind. He had to stop them, but how?

He needed help.

And as though someone had heard his request, the tourists who milled around the area suddenly began to move in, surrounding the sedan in a tight circle, their faces pointed outwards, expressionless as their arms crossed over their chests.

As they did so, Dascha could see that they every one of them was male. Not only that, but
large
males, with bright blue eyes and broad shoulders. Shifters. This was the Fraternity of the Claw. But how had they ended up here?

“What is the meaning of this?” asked Grendel of the barricade made of male flesh. “Let us through or I’ll have you all arrested.”

“Will you now?” asked Colin, stepping out from among the others to face his enemy. Dascha ran towards them, dodging traffic as he did so. Estée was still imprisoned by the men’s arms, but unharmed as far as he could tell.

“What do you think, Alpha?” asked Colin, his eyes going to Dascha’s own for a moment, as the other shifter approached. “Do you think we can take them?”

“I do,” he said.

With that, the pack shifted as one. Twenty enormous wolves now surrounded the black car, pacing, growling at the bodyguards and at Grendel, who stood frozen, unwilling to stoop so low as to shift himself.

But his two bodyguards shifted: large bears; one a grizzly, the other an impressive polar bear. Not surprisingly, they were enormous.

Each let out a roar, huge canines on exhibit.

But bears with no combat experience, genetically modified or not, had nothing on the skills of a well-honed pack of wolves. The members of the Fraternity stalked their prey only for a moment before leaping, some on the bears’ backs, others lunging at their throats. In seconds, the two thugs were bloodied, each suffering from multiple wounds. To their credit, they fought on, their incredible strength sustaining them for a time.

Dascha reached for Estée’s hand, which had been freed when the two large men had shifted.

“You all right?” he asked.

She nodded.

“Okay, good.”

He ripped off his jacket and threw it to the ground, shifting into his black wolf shape. His new pack was doing its job; now it was time to do his.

He turned to Grendel, whose back was now pressed into the car’s side, a look of horror on his face.

Dascha growled, padding towards the man, who thrust himself into the vehicle, grabbing Estée by the wrist and yanking her in alongside him. He pulled the door shut behind them.

The driver, who appeared to be human, followed suit.

But the car wasn’t going anywhere; not with the enormous wolf bodies surrounding it.

Dascha lunged at the passenger window, his enormous jaw striking and cracking the glass. Once more he threw his large form at it, this time forcing the window to shatter inwards in tiny fragments.

Fixed on the car’s interior his eyes took in a miraculous sight: a white tiger, crouching on all four legs. It growled at Grendel, transformed into his animal shape which stood, apparently terrified, on the seat: a small, helpless-looking tabby cat.

If wolves could laugh, Dascha would have done just that. Instead, he shifted, reaching in and opening the car door from the inside to let the tiger out, slamming it shut to contain the non-threat that was the house cat. It was no wonder the guy was working on genetic enhancement; he was Garfield.

Within minutes, the enormous bears were on the ground, weakened by their blood loss, the wolves standing over them, too merciful to do further damage. None was willing to go in for the kill until Dascha issued the order, but they were making damn sure the bears didn’t move.

“Tell them to hold off,” said Estée, who had shifted as she observed the bloodbath. “Don’t kill those men. I don’t think they even know what they’re fighting for.”

Dascha nodded.

“Let them be,” he said to the wolves. “They’re not going to hurt anyone now. Genetically engineered or not, these guys aren’t crafty enough to be real fighters. Grendel forgot that warriors need training, and being huge doesn’t mean that you can win a battle against a pack of wolves. He has some work to do before he can create a proper super-army.”

One by one, the pack reverted to their human forms, pulling on clothing that had been salvaged from the ground. Dascha and Estée did the same, though the tiger shifter’s clothing was in fairly bad shape. She reached for her familiar satchel and pulled out the white dress that she’d bought in Amiens.

“You’re free,” Dascha said, as the black sedan drove away.

“Are you sure? Grendel will probably look for vengeance for humiliating him like this.”

“He only wanted what was inside your jade tiger,” said Dascha. “He’s not the sort of man who puts effort into anything he doesn’t need to.”

Inside
my tiger? I don’t understand.”

“I’ll explain later,” said Dascha. “Meanwhile, I stole it for you once again.” He extracted the familiar green cat from the pocket of his jeans. “It seems that Grendel wasn’t interested in it once its belly had been emptied.” He handed it to a grateful Estée.

“I think we have some decisions to make.” Dascha turned to face Colin, who stood quietly beside them.

“Thank you for what you’ve all done here,” he said. “And you as well, Estée. This was all a trap that you devised together, wasn’t it? How did you know where to find us?”

“Tower Bridge, remember? You’d always wanted to come here. Somehow, I figured that you’d find a way to see the place, even if it was going to be the location of your murder.”

“Clever girl.”

“And,” she said, smiling. “I knew they’d try and grab me. I knew that
you
would try and save me. And we knew that the pack would follow you to the ends of the earth, after what you did for them.”

“Well, aren’t you far more intelligent than I am?” he asked, pulling her to him. “What would I do without you?”

“Probably sit on your ass, watch football and look pretty,” she said.

“Well, that all sounds awfully sweet. But it wouldn’t make me happy. And you, my dear, make me very fucking happy.”

“Watch your fucking language.”

People milling about the Tower Bridge that day wondered how it was that a polar bear and grizzly bear lay on the ground nearby, that a number of half-naked men were standing around them on a street corner, and who the completely naked man was who made out in the middle of it all with a beautiful dark-haired woman.

Most chalked it up to some bizarre work of modern performance art.

But none realized that it marked a new Alpha’s leadership of the Fraternity of the Claw.

S
o what are
we going to do about him?” Estée asked as she looked out the window of their room at the Ritz Carlton. Finally, a nice hotel.

“Grendel? He’s a little out of my league at the moment,” said Dascha, stepping up behind her, his body devoid of clothing, and putting his hands around her waist. “But I should tell you: I sent Tristan a little email that happens to contain the audio file of a conversation I had with Grendel. It’s very revealing, and I’m sure the media would love to get their hands on it, though we need to save it for a rainy day.”

“You dog.”

“Wolf, actually. Also, I will be talking to my Fraternity about how to proceed. And I think we might want to form a Syndicate of our own—there are enough wolf packs around to take down Grendel and his entire army, if we do it right.”

“And so you’ve decided?” she said, turning to him. “You’ll stay here?”

Dascha smiled, and in that one moment, she saw everything she’d ever wished for in one place: he was happy, he was at peace. He was home, where he belonged. An Alpha who’d proven his worth, a man who’d proven his strength.

And in turn she was happy. Perfectly, utterly happy, for the first time in years.

“Of course I’ll stay. That is, unless you’ve changed your mind. You know that you’re stuck with me now,” he said. “I go where you go.”

“I’m not going anywhere. I told Cecile that she’s welcome to visit us anytime. I still want to meet that mate of hers.”

“Well, I hope they give us at least forty-eight hours,” said Dascha, leaning down to kiss her neck, his fingers pulling her robe’s collar away from her skin. “Because I need at least that long to kiss every inch of you.”

“I think we’re safe,” she laughed, her hands running down his bare back, nails dragging gently into his flesh. At last her tiger was at rest inside her; satisfied with life, and even in love. The next time it emerged would be different, controlled. She was at peace now.

Taking his hand, she led him to the king-sized bed.

“What do you suppose the Ritz would charge if we broke this thing?” she asked.

“Let’s find out,” he growled, throwing himself onto the mattress.

Estée climbed atop him, straddling him as he moaned, her naked thighs surrounding him, her slickness slipping along his hard cock.

“Oh, dear God, woman,” he said. “No panties. You’ll be the death of me.”

“Well, I’ll try,” she said, leaning down to allow the robe to split open, her breasts spilling out. “And might I point out that you’re completely naked?”

She eased her pelvis forwards, stroking him with her lips as she looked into his eyes.

“I am?” he asked, looking down. “I hadn’t noticed because of the beautiful naked woman on top of me.”

“Smooth talker.”

“I want you,” he said.

Estée lifted herself several inches as Dascha reached down, positioning himself under her as she eased down onto him.

He gasped in glorious pleasure as her channel took him in, her walls closing tightly around his shaft. He slid his hand over his belly, his thumb seeking out her clit as she rode him, mimicking her motions with his own as he stroked her, his other hand teasing her luscious nipples one at a time, pulling them into tight peaks.

“I’ll never get tired of this,” she said quietly. “You make me feel so beautiful.”

“You
are
beautiful.”

She leaned down and kissed him softly before sitting up, arching her back and easing backwards, still maintaining her rhythm, still fucking him.

Dascha laid his hands on her hips and flipped her over, onto her back. He climbed atop her, thrusting into her hard as she cried out, laughing.

“Oh my,” she said. “You’re a magical wolf, aren’t you?”

He pulled out, his hand guiding his cockhead, slipping it over her bud and watching her face as her eyes squeezed tightly closed, her back arching again underneath him.

“Do you like that, honey?” he asked. “Does it feel good when I used my cock like this?”

“Yes,” she gasped, her slit tightening in response.
Oh, God…

“Are you going to come for me? Because my hard, hard cock loves rubbing your perfect pussy and I love making you come like crazy…”

“I’m going to come for you, my wolf. Keep doing that. Don’t stop,” she growled.

And as he watched his cock grow harder, he slipped its shining head over her, pulling her hood back to expose her beautiful little bud, gently easing over her as her blood rushed to that wonderful spot.

“Yes, baby. You come, and then I’ll give you something big, long, and hard as a reward,” he said, smiling.

And a moment later she bucked under him, a cry emerging from her as the orgasm raged through her body, her fingers grasping at the bedsheets and tearing them from the mattress.

And Dascha sheathed himself inside her in one hard thrust as she came, her sweet pussy milking him, forcing him to explode within her core as he cried out.

Her arms were around him, pulling him deeper inside her as their chests came together, their bodies pressing into each other, as close as two humans could be.

They remained in that position for several minutes, neither speaking. Both in a state of perfect, unfaltering happiness. For the rest of their lives, neither would feel lost, ever again.
