He shrugged. “I’m a pruner.”
She glared at him. “Is that the fertilizer you were planning to feed me when I asked about it?”
“Probably.”
“And when I gained the ability to communicate with you telepathically? What were you going to say then?”
Keith inhaled. “God, I hope that happens.”
Reaching around Bear’s furry bulk, he took her smaller hand in his, linking their fingers. “I want that with you so much, but because you’re human, I wasn’t sure it would ever happen. Then you told me about your premonitions.”
“That’s true. I shared that with you. It always set me apart and I was scared you’d think I was crazy. But I told you
, even though I rarely have such dreams. You were trying to hide an entire portion of your life from me. Can you understand why I’m upset?”
He nodded. “Of course. But, baby, I can promise it will never happen again.”
“I know. Thanks to Mystique.”
He winced. “No doubt, I owe her. I’m sorry I couldn’t come up with the words to tell you myself.
Please forgive me.”
“You’re lucky I love you.”
She leaned over and he met her halfway. They kissed over Bear’s head. “You’re forgiven,” she whispered against his lips.
He could feel her love like sunshine warming him from the inside despite the chill in the air. He sent that same warmth back to her and he knew she felt it as her smile grew and grew.
