“I dare to believe that, even though I should have told you weeks ago that this was my home.” He released her hands and framed her face with his hands. “But I was afraid that I would lose you because you would care more about what your family thought than our love.”

“I want to be a part of my family, but not at the price of losing you.”

“Will you be a part of my family too?”

She whispered, “You want to marry me?”

“As soon as the bridge is finished, we will celebrate our wedding vows in the very middle of it. I think it is time that we bring the hatred between our families back to the love it should have been.” He brushed his lips against her cheek. “I wanted to put all this hatred and these silly old traditions behind me, but, even though it might be a folly to marry a Kinloch, I can think of no better way to spend the rest of my life.”

“Nor can I.” As she leaned into his kiss, she delighted in the love that only their two hearts could bridge.
