Note:
For more information about using aromatherapy, see page 154. Always dilute aromatherapy oils with vegetable oil before applying to skin unless otherwise advised. If you are using an aromatherapy treatment, wait an hour before administering a homeopathic remedy, or else the strong scent may interfere with the action of the homeopathic medicine.
Gentle Remedies for Infants
Colic
Aromatherapy
Dilla carminitive; dilute 1 drop in 1 tablespoon sweet almond oil; massage tummy.
Homeopathy
Belladonnaif baby's tummy feels hot; baby is constipated; baby has spasms that come and go quickly.

Carbo vegetalis
if baby has a pale face, distended upper abdomen, cold legs from the knee down.
Chamomillabest remedy when infants are teething; abdomen is tender and distended; child vomits or has green, foul-smelling diarrhea.
Magnesia phosphorica
for bloating, burping, gas, relieved by applying warm compresses and bending into fetal position.
Herbal Medicine
Chamomile, peppermint, fennel tea, or a mixture of all threetaken by the mother if breast-feeding, 1/2 cup daily if given via bottle.
Supplement
Probioticstaken by the mother if breast-feeding; if not, give 1/8 to 1/4 teaspoon per day in formula.
Diaper Rash
Aromatherapy
Chamomile Germangentle, soothing antibacterial, antiseptic, disinfectant, and anti-inflammatory.
Homeopathy
Calcarea carbonica
for an infant who tends to perspire on the head and feet, and whose sweat and stools smell sour.
Sulphurfor red, sore rash.
Thuja
for persistent rash.
Herbal Medicine
Calendula lotion or gelsoothing and healing.
Evening primrose oil or lotionanti-inflammatory.
Supplements
Probioticstaken by the mother if breast-feeding; if not, give 1/8 to 1/4 teaspoon per day in formula.
