“No,” she answered.

He kissed her with the same passion he’d seen in her eyes and twisted his fingers around, finding and stroking her G-spot. He used his thumb and worked her nub, and her channel clenched around his fingers. She was close, so very close. He wouldn’t deny her, not after what she’d given him.

“I’m going to release your hands, baby. I want to feel you holding me as I send you over the edge.”

She nodded, and he let her hands go. Using his free hand, he grabbed her ass and squeezed as he gave her the pressure she sought.

“Oh God.” Her channel clenched on his fingers. “Yes.”

Her nails dug into his shirt, breaking skin beneath the fabric. The pain alone made him move faster, wishing it was his cock instead of his hand.

He leaned into her as he applied the pressure he’d been keeping from her. “Come for me, baby.”

His name was whispered on her lips, and he watched the ecstasy fill her face, her eyes, and her body as she held on tightly. He slowed his caress, kissing her lips as she came down from her orgasm. Her body, molded against his, was compliant and warm. He slipped his fingers free and brought them to his mouth, sucking her juices for the first time. He held her gaze as he pulled them out and then kissed her once again, letting her taste the heaven that had him rock-hard.

He fixed her bra and lowered her shirt. Reaching between them, he zipped her jeans and refastened the button as he broke the kiss. Her cheeks were rosy; her eyes were glazed, and he was painfully close to embarrassing himself right where he stood.

Cole slipped his fingers through hers and took her out of his now favorite room in the house and back into the kitchen. “Make yourself at home. I need to go take a quick shower.”

Her eyes widened. “That’s twice you gave and I didn’t reciprocate.”

“I’m not keeping count,” he answered and winked. “Tonight I make no promises, other than to leave you and me both completely sated.”

“Shouldn’t we be tracking down the pyro? I could call Declan or even Landon. I’m sure they could help.”

Cole cupped her cheek and kissed her once again, this time tender and slow. “I’ve got guys coming to help me find Crompton. They’ll be here in the morning, and they’re better equipped to deal with him.”

She nodded, and Cole walked backward, completely in awe of the woman who had shattered to pieces in his arms, excited about the prospect of watching her do it again in bed. The night couldn’t come quick enough where she was concerned.

Chapter 8

Alexis waited for Cole to go upstairs before she grabbed the counter and lowered her head.

“I can’t believe I did that, again,” she chastised herself, knowing tonight she’d get to feel him up close and personal in bed. “I’m such a slut.”

She shook her head. The man was a god in every sense of the word, and the way he touched her, the way he brought out the vixen she never knew she was, stunned even her.

Alexis heard the shower running and headed straight into his study. This man was a mystery to her. Yes, he’d told her things about himself that probably many people didn’t know. But there was plenty else she didn’t know. She moved straight to his desk and sat down in his chair, pulling out the drawers, hoping to find something, anything that might give her better insight. She shut the drawers and moved over to the double-door cabinet. She pulled them open to find two lit screens on the inside. The security monitors showed the outside of the house.

She quickly shut the doors, stepped out of the study, and moved silently to the library with his stacks of books. She was missing something. She was sure of it. She ran her fingers over the old spines of some of the classics. She pulled on the books in some asinine attempt to uncover another hidden room. What was she expecting to find? A playroom or something just as devious? The man was demanding, and the way he played her was skilled to say the least.

Alexis was still pulling books when Cole cleared his throat as he entered. “What are you hunting for?”

“More secrets,” she answered honestly. “Pictures, anything to give me a better understanding of the man I’ll be having sex with tonight.”

He chuckled and came up behind her, wrapping his arms around her waist. He placed a gentle kiss on her neck. “You know more about me than most, but ask me anything. I’m an open book to you.”

“See, now there you go being sweet again.”

“Yeah, well, you’ve shown me the rewards for being that way. I wasn’t expecting that kiss.”

“I have a feeling there isn’t much that catches you off guard.” she teased and pulled down another book halfway, sure there was another secret compartment she was missing.

“Tell me about the man who took the pictures.”

He kissed her once more and stepped back, taking her hand. “I’ll do better than that. I’ll show you.”

He guided her back into the study and opened the cabinet full of monitors. He glanced over his shoulder. “You’ve been snooping.”

She shrugged and gave him a playful smile. “What gave me away?”

“Nothing you would have noticed. I leave things a certain way on purpose, so I’ll know if things are tampered with. For instance, this cabinet, when you found it, wasn’t shut all the way. There was a gap, unnoticeable to the naked eye, but very noticeable to me. So when I came in here and found it shut all the way, it told me you’d been in here.”

“Oh, well then, you’ll notice I’ve snooped in your desk too.” She gave him a saucy wink.

Cole put a CD into the player and grabbed the remote before moving to stand behind Alexis. “This is Phillip Crompton.”

He hit Play, and a man that Alexis was sure she’d seen before filled the screen. The CD comprised a series of photos, none of which had been taken on the island. The man looked military. His brown hair was cut short. Tattoos covered both arms. He was wearing fatigues and a black shirt. His face was hard, as though he’d not only seen horrible things, but had also caused them. He had a scar up by his temple, which made her breath hitch.

“Freeze that.”

He clicked the button, and she moved closer to the screen. “I know this guy. Well, not really know, know him, but I’ve seen him.”

“Where, Alexis?”

“He’s been around my house.” Her veins felt ice cold as the blood rushed from her face. “I think the first time I saw him was at the park when I was running and the second time was in the salon. He came in and sat in my chair.”

“Any other times?” Cole moved to her side and placed his palm on her back.

“I don’t remember.”

“It’s okay.” He clicked the Play button again, and the pictures continued. “If he’s been here long enough, he probably noticed my interest in you and started following you. That’s how he probably figured out your special hot springs and where to wait with the camera.”

“Why does he hate you?” she asked.

“Crompton was Special Forces. He was actually my partner at one time. We frequented the same clubs and hangouts together, and that was when I met Victoria. I didn’t even know they’d been an item until she and I had been together for a while. One night I was in a club, and she was alone, and we…”

“You what?” Alexis asked.

“We…played together.”

“I knew it. You’re like a dom or something, aren’t you?”

“I wouldn’t say that. I knew how to give her pleasure, and she craved more. We became an item and eventually married, leaving that lifestyle behind. Once we’d found each other, we didn’t need a club to play in. We had a good life in and out of the bedroom. It wasn’t until I introduced her to Crompton that Victoria explained how they knew each other.”

Cole cleared his throat. “Long story short, Crompton and I had a falling out. We fought each other; he pulled out a knife, stabbed me, and left me for dead.”

“How did you survive?”

“A passing pedestrian saw me in the alley and called for help. Word got back to our commander, and he was discharged after that. Crompton was a career man. He was in for life, and when he was dishonorably discharged, I’m sure it changed him. I never saw him again.”

“He blames you for losing the girl and the job.”

“I guess he does.” Cole’s eyes turned dark as he watched the screen. “We’ll find him, and this time, he won’t walk away. Not now that I know he was responsible for Victoria and has threatened you. He’s living on borrowed time.”

Alexis wrapped her arms around his waist and laid her head against his back, listening to his heart. “I’m sorry you had to go through that.”

“Me too,” he answered.

He turned in her arms and wrapped his around her. “So now you know my dark secret. What other questions can I answer?”

“Do you have a hidden playroom in this house?”

He chuckled. The vibration eased the muscles in her body. “No, but when we’re married, if you want me to install one, all you have to do is say the word.”

“I’m not marrying you. I think maybe you might need a psych eval to check the damage from your mom dropping you. You’re delusional and bossy.”

“A guy can dream,” he whispered against her hair before he kissed her.

The rest of the day was spent getting her things settled and the two of them doing nothing more than talking about their history and getting to know each other. Cole wasn’t a bad guy. He was actually pretty charming when he wanted to be. Well, he had his moments. She smiled at the thought as she helped wash the dinner dishes.

Excitement strummed through her veins from every kiss and every touch, which he’d given more freely now that she’d stopped threatening to dismember his manhood. They spent most of the evening after dinner, on the couch in his living room, watching a movie. He was unusually quiet, and surprisingly, his hands didn’t do any wandering in any foreplay as she would have guessed. Spending time with him was easy, getting to know him even better. The night promised things she’d been severely lacking.

Cole clicked off the TV and stood in front of her, holding out his hand in an offer. Alexis slipped her fingers through his and let him lead the way to his bedroom. She stepped into the room, and her mouth parted. The room was lit in candlelight. The flames danced around the room as he wrapped his arms around her waist. He found the sweet spot behind her ear and kissed.

“When did you have time to do all this?”

“Twenty minutes ago when you were making popcorn and I came upstairs to change.”

“There you go, being all sweet again.”

“I know you said I could touch you, but I kind of forced you into saying yes with the promise of giving you release. I don’t want our first time to be like that. I don’t want to use blackmail for you to agree. Not about this.”

Alexis turned in his arms and kissed his lips again, something that she found she enjoyed more each time. She stepped back, lifted the shirt over her head, and let it slip to the floor at her feet. Reaching behind her, she unhooked her bra and let it slide down her arms. She walked backward to the bed, losing more pieces of clothing as she went, until she was naked. She crawled up into the middle of the oversized mattress. “I choose this. I want you to make love to me.”

Cole shed his shirt, leaving it as he approached the bed. He dropped his track pants and stood nude in front of her. She bit her lips and gripped the comforter, knowing she was in for a long ride.

Cole climbed up the bed and settled between her thighs. Reaching between them, he rubbed his engorged cock against her juices. “I need a condom.”

He reached for the bedside table, pulled out a small packet, and tore it with his teeth. He sheathed the latex down his shaft and hovered over her once again. Holding himself up, with his elbows next to her body, he reached between them and inched his shaft inside her tight channel.

She was hot and ready as she ran her nails down her back.

“I love it when you do that,” he whispered against her neck, kissing her again as he inched in farther. “Damn, baby, you’re so tight, so wet.”

Alexis wrapped her legs around him and used her ankles to help him along the way. “I need to feel all of you. Every last inch.”

Cole slid inside her, filling her, leaving no place untouched. He held still and let her adjust, waiting for her to release her breath. She held his gaze, smiled up at him. He pulled out and slid back in again, starting the rhythm he’d use over and over again. He drove her up to the point of cresting, only to ease back, and then did it all over again, multiple times, until she was withering beneath him.

The cycle continued until she couldn’t take any more. “Please, Cole.”

“I love hearing my name on your lips,” he whispered.

He moved faster, taking her up the hill again.

“Don’t stop this time, please. Come with me. I want to feel your release.”

“Damn, Alexis.” He thrust harder, holding her legs open wide with his arms. He continued to thrust several more times as she held on for the ride, holding, wanting, needing what he gave her and begging for more.

She came, screaming his name, and he continued to move harder, into her once, twice, until he stilled and grunted, shooting his seed into the latex barrier.
