Ally woke with a fright
,
sweat bathing her, her breathing ragged
and raw
.

A nightmare. It was just
a nightmare.
Not real.

But dammit, that was the second one this week, what the hell was going on?

Scenes from the
terrifying dream
drifted
through her head
as she lay in bed and concentrated on slowing her breathing. Sweat saturated her nightgown but the
man
still fast asleep
beside
her
,
reassured her that
she hadn’t thrashed about, or worse, screamed.

Even Jake couldn’t have slept through that. W
hen Jake slept, he really slept.
H
e’d learned to grab sleep where he could
when he’d gone through medical school
. Even now, with his own practice, he often worked long hours and on those days, fell into bed, drifting immediately into a heavy sleep.

Ally
had
hoped
her
nightmares
would have disappeared by now
. It was so wonderful
being
with
Jake
.
She felt safe, secure, and so
happy.
She’d been living with Jake for a year now, and h
er nightmares had slowly become fewer and fewer, her insecurities lessening.
Before this week, her last nightmare had been over six weeks ago
.

So why had
she had two nightmares this week
?
What was triggering them?

Ally
took a deep breath, feeling sticky,
shaky and slightly ill. Fear still bubbled in her stomach and she knew she wasn’t going back to sleep tonight.
She glanced at the bedside clock
.
3.3
5
am. No way could she lie here for another
four hours.

She desperately wanted a glass of water and a long, hot shower. All she had to do was sneak out of bed without waking Jake. Shouldn’t be hard, he’d worked a long day. He was exhausted.

Moving slowly, inch by inch, she climbed from the
bed;
shivering slightly as cool air hit her damp body.
Standing
,
she walked past the door leading to the connected bathroom
in favo
r of th
e guest
bathroom f
a
rther down the passage.

Quickly stripping off her nightgown
,
Ally
hopped in
to
the steaming shower, sighing with satisfaction.
Hot water massaged
her tense muscle
s
, relaxing her bit by bit.
Remnants of the nightmare still remained, however.

Why did she still let
the asshole
affect her this way? Why couldn’t she just let the past go? She had a great man w
ho loved her, who cherished
and protected her. Why couldn’t she just let herself be happy?

Instead Lyle still infected her dreams. Yelling at her, berating her. Hurting her.

Growing light
-headed from the heat
,
she turned off the dials and stepped out to towel herself dry.

“You okay, sweetheart?”

Ally let out a yelp, jumping up as
Jake spoke
from behind her. Swirling around
,
she held her hand to her chest, breathing heavily
as she tried
to calm
her raging heartbeat
.

“Hey
. H
ey
,
now,”
Jake
kept his voice
low and
soothing as he held up his hands in a placating manner. “It’s just me
,
sweetheart
.”

Ally took a deep
breath
. “You frightened me.
I didn’t hear you come in.”

Jake
frowned
with concern
, his eyes darkening as they raced over her still trembling body. “I didn’t feel you get up. Why didn’t you wake me up,
sweet
?” He took the towel from her and finished drying her body. Ally closed her eyes and drew comfort from his caring.

“You need your sleep,” s
he explained
once he’d stopped
drying her. Opening her eyes
,
she saw him pick up her nightgown
. He stared at the sweat-soaked gown with
a
frown.
Turning back, he
placed a hand on her forehead.

Ally smiled.
He was always fussing over her
, worrying about her
. Another woman might have found it smothering, she relished it.
“I’m fine
,
Jake
.”

“You’re running a temperature.” H
is face was concerned as he lifted her int
o his arms.

Ally gasped in surprise at the sudden move
.

Jake
! Put me down!”

Jake
ignored her protest and carried her down to their bedroom, placing her on their bed. “Why didn’t you tell me you felt sick?
You should have woken me up as soon as you started to feel ill.

I didn’t wake you up because I don’t feel ill, Jake
.
Honey, I’m fine. I was just a bit hot in bed and then I took a hot shower. I promise I’m not sick.

Jake
grasped her wrist in his hand, placing his fingers over her pulse.
As a doctor h
e saw sick people every day
,
yet he
always
went into overprotective mode
if he thought she
was unwell.
It was almost funny the way he
overreacted
. Well, it would be if she wasn’t on the receiving end. Last month she’d had to spend a week in bed for a simple cold.

Having no wish to spend tomorrow in bed
,
Ally
grabbed his hand as he
stood and pushed the blankets over her. He turned towards the bathroom.

Jake
,
I’m fine
,” she told him.

I just woke up sweaty and wanted a shower.”

He ran a hand over her damp hair.
“You should have woken me up, kid.
I don’t like the thought of you awake and feeling ill. You could have
had a dizzy spell and
slipped in the shower and I wouldn’t have know
n
.”

Jake
,” she sighed in exasperation. “I don’t feel ill. I’m fine. I just woke up and couldn’t go back to sleep, okay?”

“Hmm.” H
e looked down at her thoughtfully, as if gauging the truth. “All right. I’ll take your temperature to be sure
,
though
,
and then I think I have a way of helping you sleep.”

Jake
,
come back to
bed
;
you’ve only had a few hours sleep
.” She didn’t like causing him so much trouble, he’d
gotten home very late
and she knew he had to be absolutely exhausted.
“I was just going to get up and watch some TV.”

She
tried
to sit but he pushed
her back down gently, standing over her with a firm look on his face.

“You’re not getting up to watch TV
,
little girl, it

s far too late for t
hat. Now, lie back and let me
look after you.”

Ally’s insides danced
at the words. It only took those two words ‘little girl’
combined with his take
charge voice
to put her into little girl mode.
When his
dark, deep voice took on a stern but loving tone
she instantly reacted
.
Her stomach dropped and she regressed back to being
a
little girl.

That voice, those words meant that Jake was firmly in charge and that Ally, as his little girl, didn’t need to worry about anything but doing as her Daddy told her. Which
,
of course
,
she didn’t always manage to do
, b
ut then nobody expected a little girl to be perfect, certainly not her Daddy.

Ally
hadn’t let
her little girl free
for two weeks now.
Jake
’s schedule had been hectic and he’d been away more than he’d been home. Ally realised she’d missed their Daddy/little girl time.

Leaning over
,
he opened the drawer beside his bed and pulled out a binky. “Open up,” he ordered softly, smiling gently as she immediately opened her mouth and begun sucking happily.

“G
ood girl,
y
ou just lie there and I’ll be back soon
,

he whispered kissing her forehead before he stood and left the room.

Ally
was a grown woman. In a month’s time she’d be thirty-three. But while she spent many of her days as an adult, shoppi
ng, paying bills
,
working,
the little part of her was never far from the surface. This part of her
needed to come out
sometimes
, to be loved, to be looked
after
, to have her Daddy take charge
.

All
y
was introduced to
Jake
through a friend
. She couldn’t believe it when she met him. He was perfect. Gorgeous, kind, smart. A well-respected doctor, he’d been part of the
age play
lifestyle for years and was looking for a little girl to take care of.
When they’d met,
Jake
was already living
here
in this
gated community
. Only people who were part of the lifestyle or who wanted to be were allowed into this community and they had to go through a rigorous screening in order to even be considered by the community’s council
.

He’d set up
his own medical practice
within the community.
H
e also worked at
least one day
a
week at the
hospital in the city
;
usually it was this work that kept him working all hours of the night
.
