He put his hand over his eyes. "God," he groaned out softly. "I'm such an idiot." Yes, it had been a very long time since the two had last met, and Lyle had filled out immensely, but Micah felt he still should have known the guy when he'd been watching them this whole time. His fear of losing Jason forever had obviously clouded more than just his judgment.

He sat up slowly, waiting for another rush of wooziness to hit him and was quite comforted when it didn't come. The room was empty.

"Where–?"

The rumble of deep voices coming from the kitchen told him where they were.

He heard the screen door tap against its frame as someone either came or went from the cottage, just as Jason entered the living room.

"Good, you're awake. What the hell happened there? You passed out on us. Are you sick? Do you need a doctor? Shit, Micah, you scared me when you didn't come around right away, damn you."

Micah blushed, feeling embarrassed under the man's scrutiny. "I'm fine, Jason. I don't really know why I passed out, though. All I remember is a feeling of lightheadedness washing over me, and then, darkness. I'm sorry to have been so much trouble." He made a move to get up, but Jason's firm hand on his chest stopped him.

"Hold on there, eagle boy. You're not going anywhere until I know you're not ill and until we talk about that piece of news you dropped on me in the kitchen." Jason's eyes darkened in confusion and pain. His voice became gruff. "You don't just say you've made a mistake and then get to leave this house without me getting my say in it, too, you know."

Micah sat back against the cushions, his breath escaping from his chest as his heart again beat a staccato rhythm. "Okay. Yes, I'd like to talk to you, too." His earlier courage slowly returning, he lifted his chin and looked directly into the dark pools of brown across from him. "I can admit when I'm wrong. Question is, what can I do about it? Are you willing to give me another shot? Can you forgive me being stupid enough to think I wasn't meant to be with you? That you'd be better off without me and your people wouldn't shun you if I wasn't around to complicate your life?"

"Micah," Jason began, then shook his head. "I told you none of that mattered to me. I'm gay. That's enough for things to be an issue with the panthers." He made a face, and Micah could see the aggravation and disgust at his people's refusal to understand, to accept him for who he was. "I can't procreate within my line, and that in and of itself pissed off the Alpha. Even if it wasn't you, wasn't an avian shifter, rather another panther, they'd not accept me anyway. I don't care."

He looked right into Micah's eyes and leaned forward just a tad. "I've never cared about the customs, Micah." He'd said it before, but this time, Micah felt the immensity of what Jason was truly saying. "The way the pride did things? Never cared. I thought you'd know that just by the fact that I'd moved out here, away from all of that. I built my home here instead of with the others in the woods. I don't want to be part of that."

He sat back and ran his hands through his hair with a heavy sigh. "I need to live my own life, and that meant with whomever I was lucky enough to fall in love with, regardless if they were shifter or not. Now, can I forgive you?" Jason sucked in a deep breath, filling his lungs, his chest expanding, paused with the air held for a moment, and then blew it out slowly.

Micah felt his heart drop to the bottom of his belly, pain coursed through him as he fully expected Jason to say he couldn't. He had no one to blame but himself. However, it still hurt like hell, even though he'd expected it.
Micah decided if he was going to have his heart broken, he was going to be on his feet and face it. Pushing himself off the couch, he stood, back straight, bracing himself for the agonizing disappointment.

"I'm sorry—" He was cut off when Jason abruptly stood and pushed him against the wall, one hand coming to rest next to Micah's head. Lean muscles spanned his arm and cotton-clad chest.

Micah put out a hand and splayed his fingers across Jason's collarbone, whispering his lover's name, a question in his voice. Warm breath caressed his cheek. He bowed his head for a moment and a soft sound came out, like an extended groan. Lifting his head, Micah ran his fingers over Jason's square jaw, whispering across the silky stubble framing the edges of the goatee. He ran his thumb across Jason's lower lip, noting the velvety softness overlaying the firm chin with its thatch of hair placed in the center. Very much like Jason, so smooth on the surface, but unyielding, strong underneath.

Micah traced the curve of a fine ear, the strong tendons of Jason's neck. The hair was soft and he buried his fingers in it, reveling in the feel of the short strands gliding against his palm, tickling his skin. He brought his other hand up to trace the elegant lines of Jason's high cheekbones, long lashes, his dark brows.

He leaned forward, brushing his lips over that beautiful mouth. He'd never kissed anyone the way he'd kissed Jason before and he shivered, remembering the feel of his lover's lips on his, the amazing sensations that just kissing him had always caused. A jolt like electricity went down his spine when Jason grabbed the back of his neck and pulled Micah toward him, hot lips moving, caressing, bruising. Jason's tongue slipped into his mouth, stroking, and he moaned deeply, his legs trembling.

Jason drew back, panting, his eyes like transparent pools to his soul; the love he felt for Micah shone from within their depths. "Christ." He lunged for Micah's lips again, like a man drowning, and Micah caught him by the shoulders, his eyes closing under the onslaught of sensation. Jason's hands dropped from his neck and came to rest on Micah's hips.

Their bodies rubbed against each other and sparks went off behind Micah's eyelids. Pulsing and engorged, he knew he had to get out of his shorts, now. His pulse raced and his breath came in short pants. He felt sweat trickle down his neck.

"Please," he whispered against Jason's lips and shuddered as a shiver raced down his spine.

Pulling back for a breath, Jason looked him over. His pupils were so dilated with desire the irises looked black. "You look so hot like that," he muttered, his deft hand undoing the button and zipper on Micah's shorts. He found and pulled out Micah's stiff cock, wrenching a cry from him. Jason hesitated. The beautiful man standing before Micah wasn't so sure of his moves anymore.

Unbearable tenderness filled Micah and a spike of white-hot desire moved through him, making him gasp. "Please." It was a softly whispered plea. "Jason, make me come."

With a sigh that sounded like relief, Jason pressed his lips to Micah's jaw, scraped his teeth over the slight stubble, then nibbled his way down to the hollow at the base of the other man's throat. A flick of his tongue across the small indent gathered the familiar taste of his lover and he moaned, the vibration deep in his chest. He sank to his knees, wrapped his hands around the base and guided Micah's hardness into his mouth, enclosing it in velvety heat.

To finally feel those callused hands stroking his cock again, gave him such profound excitement as Jason's warm, soft mouth slid over his hard shaft. He sighed in relief as his lover's tongue began to stroke and tenderly worship the large vein on the sensitive underside. A jolt of pleasure shot up from his balls to his spine. His mouth open in a silent cry, Micah thrust into the warmth, his knees going weak with pleasure. He tangled his fingers in Jason's silky, dark hair and bit his bottom lip, trying to distract himself from coming too soon. But it was like fighting a losing battle.

He couldn't stop his hips from bucking as Jason's languid, sucking strokes intensified and his tongue probed Micah's slit. His testicles tightened up, his breathing became short, and his hips pumped helplessly.

Warm hands grabbed his hips, a lost cause holding them immobile. Strong fingers pressed against his buttocks as Jason swallowed Micah even further down, seeming to instinctively sense his impending release, his soft hair tickling Micah's balls and the skin around his groin.

His cock knocked the back of Jason's throat and his lover hummed in delight as he bucked and thrust; once, twice, and he felt the quake start deep inside, heat coiling and then bursting from the root of his cock in great waves. His shout echoed through the room as he released his cream into Jason's mouth.

Jason's warm mouth never left him until he was done, and when he pulled away, panting, Micah slid to his knees, sparkling darkness eating at his vision again.

Unexpectedly, muscled arms grabbed him and swung him up.

"What are you doing?" he asked. The world seemed to tilt and spin around him.

"The bed."

Micah could hear the smile in his lover's voice. Jason's arms under his knees and back held Micah securely against the broad chest.

"More comfortable."

He was laid out on the soft bed and insistent hands pulled off his shoes and socks, shorts and underwear. He was half in and half out of his shirt so he pulled that off as well, falling back on the soft comforter and pillows littering the bed, naked and tingling with anticipation.

The sight of the bare muscles shifting in Jason's chest as he took off his shirt sent a fresh wave of heat coursing into Micah's groin. He reached out for Jason and pulled him down, feeling that hard cock, hot and heavy against his thigh. "I want you."

Jason groaned, shifting against Micah, his nipples stiffening, his eyelids fluttering closed. Dark hair messed, muscles straining in arms and shoulders as he pressed his body against his lover. Jason was the sexiest thing Micah had ever seen.

"God, I..." Jason licked his lips, looked into Micah's eyes. "I want to come inside you."

"Yes. Do it." Micah smiled.

Jason shifted, picking up a tube from the bedside table drawer.

It was like the first time all over again. Jason went slow, coating two fingers with the slippery gel and pushing inside Micah in careful, deep strokes that left him breathless and bucking against the intrusion. He spread his legs wider on the bed, pressing down against the digits, his cock achingly hard once more. "More," he whispered, fearing his control shattering. "Want you inside."

When the fingers withdrew and the head of Jason's cock breached him, pushing past the tight ring of muscle, Micah forced his eyes open, wanting to see his lover's expression. He almost came at the sight. Jason's mouth was open, his face twisted in an expression of pleasure so intense it could've been pain. His eyelids were heavy, the lashes wet.

Jason pushed deeper and they both gasped. "Micah, I have to... oh jeezus, Micah." Jason started to thrust, deep and slow, but soon his control faded and he pumped his hips harder, faster. "Oh, God..."

Micah couldn't speak; the world had narrowed down to Jason's unique, manly scent tormenting his senses, the searing rigid flesh sliding into him, the small explosions already starting in his belly, the tight pressure in his balls so intense his mind whirled. He lifted his legs and wrapped them around Jason's waist, groaning as the angle changed and the penetration deepened. Jason's cock brushed against his prostate, sending hot sparks down his shaft and tearing a strangled cry from his throat. He rocked his hips, needing more, and Jason gave it to him, fucking him hard until orgasm hit. Convulsing with it, he grabbed Jason's shoulder and pressed his mouth to muscled flesh, smothering a scream, shooting his seed between their bodies, scalding hot.

Jason slammed into him one more time, then stilled with a deep groan as a wet heat burst inside his ass and the other man fell on top of him, sucking in air desperately.

Arms like steel bands wrapped around Micah's back, confining him to his lover as the aftershocks rocked him; jolts of pleasure left his legs trembling and his balls aching. They held each other, shaking, until it was over and Jason rolled to the bed beside him. He was suddenly cradled against a muscular shoulder, Jason's arm encircling his waist.

Jason stroked the side of Micah's face, slicking back sweat-drenched hair, the scent of their lovemaking surrounding them and sleep attempting to suck him down with the force of a storm. Micah inhaled the familiar, intoxicating scent of the man who lay beside him and relaxed, giving into the comfort of the darkness washing over him. As the last few bits of light flicked across his fading vision, he realized he now knew for sure his last decision had finally been the right one. He would give anything to spend forever with the man he loved, and the man who loved him enough to forgive him, to fight against anything that would keep them apart. His heart full to bursting, Micah knew he was home.
