Cali lay there breathing heavily as her body was still
shaking. James leaned over to his night stand and he took
a sip of his wine and then he leaned over top of Cali and
he looked into her eyes with affection, as he gently
touched her face.

“How are you feeling now?” he whispered in her ear as he
kissed her hair.

“Good,” Cali breathed her face flushed with
embarrassment. “I have never experienced anything like
that before.” Cali smiled looking up into his eyes.

“Are you ok? Do you want to keep going?” He moaned as
he kissed her neck making her feel hot letting her know he
wanted her. Cali felt so many things in that moment, she
was over joyed and she felt respected that he kept making
sure she was alright and she knew if she wanted to stop he
would stop. It gave her a power she never knew a woman
could have.
“Yes I do,” Cali whispered and bit her lip.

James leaned over to the night stand and he pulled out a
condom. He ripped open the package and Cali watched as
he put it on. She had never seen a condom before, she was
curious. Everything was so new and exciting for her.
James looked down at her to make sure she was alright he
loved her and wanted to be gentle with her. The last thing
he wanted was to hurt or scare her. She had been through
so much in her life he wanted her experience with him to
be a happy one. Cali looked up at him with her sweet
innocent eyes and she gave him a look that told him she
needed him to love her. She ran her hands over his
shoulders and down his arms. She pulled him onto her,
wrapped her leg around his body and she kissed him with
love and affection. James moved his body so he was
leaning over top of her and he parted her legs with his
legs and he kissed her neck making her moan. He kissed
down to her breasts and he sensually teased at her
nipples with his mouth making her nipples harden. She
pulled him in closer. James looked into her eyes and he
gently rubbed his erection against her. She was still so wet
from her first orgasm. Cali moaned and shook when she
felt him touch her there. That was the moment of truth;
could she move on from her past and fully give herself to
James? She needed to, she had to let go of her past. All
she wanted was to love James. Nothing else mattered at
that moment, not her sisters, or her father or who she
really was, all she wanted was James.
“Are you ready?” James asked looking deep into her eyes
so he could read her response. She smiled and shook her
head.

Cali shut her eyes and took a deep breath as she braced
herself for the sharp pain that she was used to. But James
was gentle and slow and he eased inside her like they
were made for each other. They both moaned as he was
slow and took his time not wanting to hurt her.

James looked into her eyes as he touched her face and he
kissed her lips gently. He was trying so hard to hold his
own passion and desire back, he wanted her experience to
be soft and loving. “I am I hurting you?”

Cali looked into his eyes as he was thrusting into her
slowly and she moaned. “No, this is nice.”

James grabbed her hips gently and pushed deeper inside
of her until her body shook with arousing pleasure
.
Thrusting up and down Cali wrapped her legs around him
pushing him deeper inside her. James kissed her neck and
she closed her eyes.

“I have wanted you like this since the first moment we met
but now oh my god Cali I love you so much,” He moaned
looking into her eyes.

“I know,” She smiled as she matched him thrust for thrust
and she picked up the momentum. “I love you too.”
They moved together as one and the pleasure got so
intense everything inside her tingled and tightened and
she lost herself in him. She came apart beneath him crying
out with pleasure. Her orgasm made him even hotter and
he came fast and hard moaning and panting as he held her
tightly in his arms kissing her lips. They lay there for a
few minutes holding each other before he pulled out of
her.

“Thank you,” Cali breathed and James laughed and looked
into her eyes and touched her face. “Don’t laugh at me, I
mean it. Thank you for being so sweet and gentle with me,
that was very nice.”

It was everything Cali wanted it to be. James was perfect;
so loving, attentive and gentle. She wasn’t scared and hurt,
she didn’t feel pain. All she felt was love and happiness.

Cali lay there in bed feeling the happiest she had ever felt
in her whole life. Nothing else matter but James. She
stopped thinking about what the future had in store for
her; she was living in the moment.

They both lay there naked, looking into each other’s eyes.
They loved each other and they knew each other’s deepest
and darkest secrets. They understood each other in ways
that the outside world couldn’t understand.

“Are you scared about what’s going to happen?” James
asked as he touched her hand.
“I’m not scared anymore. I wasn’t ready to go to jail and
face the truth but now I am. I can face the truth now
because I actually believe that not everything is my fault. If
I go to jail now at least I can say I got a chance to live. I
got to see the ocean, I learned how to dance, I tried
lobster, jumped on a bed, got drunk with my best friend, I
had more than one really amazing kiss, I got to go on a
yacht and a plane. I got to choose to make love to the man
I love and it was really good. All of this has been amazing,
every single minute with you has been wonderful,” Cali
said with tears in her eyes and a smile on her face.

“Will you let me help you? I will go with you, I will be there
through the whole thing,” James said squeezing her hand
tightly. “James you have to let me go,” Cali said, as the
words escaped from her lips her heart broke and so did
his.

He pulled his hand away from her, got up and went over to
his dresser. He pulled something out and walked back to
the bed and lay back down beside Cali.

“If you won’t let me be there with you, at least take
something to remember me by. I want you to always know
you are loved no matter what happens in our lives and
where we end up. I love you,” James said. As he held her
hand he slipped a ring on to her finger. “This was my
mother’s. It was given to her on the day I was born, it’s my
birthstone.”
Cali looked at the ring on her hand. It was an aquamarine
light blue princess cut, white gold ring, with two little
diamonds on both side. It was beautiful.

“I will cherish it always. Every time I look at it I will think of
you and be happy in the moment, no matter what is going
on in my life,” Cali said smiling as she leaned in and
kissed him. “I’m sorry. I don’t have anything special to
give you.” He didn’t say anything he just smiled and
kissed her again.

“Every moment I am with you is special you have given me
your heart and so much more,” James said in a soft, sweet
voice. “I don’t want to fall asleep because I don’t want
tomorrow to come. I don’t want to say good bye.”

“No matter what happens no one can take away what we
have shared and we will always have our memories,” Cali
whispered. “You know you told me you didn’t like your job
but today it didn’t seem that way.”

“It’s hard to explain. I love things about my job and I hate
things about my job. It was my dad’s business and
everything about the company reminds me of him. It
reminds me of everything we all lost and of all the things I
hate about myself. I love our employees and I love our
product. We have amazing computers and software and
there aren’t many family run major international
companies anymore. I love that we are still one, but I didn’t
have a choice on what I wanted to do with my life. I was
just told; you own half of this company and I had to learn
how to run it. I wish I loved it as much as Carl does, but I
don’t know what I want to do. I am torn, I still don’t know
what to do,” James said.

“You will figure it out. The answer will come to you and
you will know the right thing to do,” Cali said. “You have
to figure out what moves you, what makes you happy,
what you are passionate about and then find a way to
bring that into the company or leave and do what you
love. No one can tell you what’s right for you.”

“Well what would you do if you could do anything?” James
asked.

“I would study art. Hopefully one day become an artist
and have an art gallery where I could display my work and
teach other young artists,” Cali said smiling as her face lit
up. She imagined having her own studio. “But that’s just a
dream.” Her smile disappeared.

“It’s a beautiful dream,” James said as he kissed her.

They both stared into each other’s eyes until they fell
asleep.

Cali woke up the next morning to James holding on to her
really tightly and she looked into his eyes and he was
staring at her.

“Sorry did I wake you with my screaming again?” Cali
asked as she yawned.
“No, I just wanted to hold you in my arms one last time
before we have to say good bye,” James whispered.

Cali kissed him and they held each other tightly until he
fell back to asleep.

Once James was asleep she packed her bags as quietly as
she could, being careful not to wake him. She got dressed
in a grey pin striped suit James bought her. She put on a
grey hat and black shoes but she left all the rest of the
clothing. She didn’t need them where she was going. She
found a pen and a piece of paper and she wrote him a
letter.

Dear James,

I couldn’t say good bye, it would have been too hard for both of us. It
was fate that we met. You came into my life right when I needed you
and you saved me from myself. I opened up to you in ways I could
have never imagined and I couldn’t be happier to know that you could
still love me even after everything I have been through and done in
my life. You are the best thing that has ever happened to me. You
helped me live; you taught me that there is still good in this world
filled with so much bad. You let me experience things I have only
read about in books. I am so grateful to you. James I love you and I
feel guilty for dragging you into this mess with me and for letting you
fall in love with me even though I knew we couldn’t be together. But
I am not sorry that it all happened only sorry I have to leave you. I
wish you all good things in your life and when you meet the girl you
are meant to be with I hope she loves you as much as I do and always
will. Remember the things in our lives that are the hardest are also
the things that make us who we are. And who you are; is the man I
love, never change and never be ashamed of who you are. Once you
let yourself be the man I know you can be you will find what you are
looking for.

All my love,

Cali

P.S. All I have to leave for you is this picture I drew of us
together. What we had was real and I will take my memories of you
with me always.

Cali put the letter on the dining room table and she went to
her bag and ripped out a picture from her sketch book and
put it with the letter. Cali wiped tears from her eyes and
she walked out.

Cali got off the elevator and walked through the lobby but
she was stopped by Val, the lady that did her laundry.

“Miss, are you leaving? Can I get you a car?” Val asked in
a sweet voice with concern written on her face.
“Oh no I am fine I will just call a cab,” Cali said with tears
in her eyes.

“Oh no miss, I will put you in a car, I insist,” Val said
grabbing Cali’s bag as she walked to the front desk and
called for a car to come.

Cali walked outside and a car was waiting for her. Cali got
into the black car and she looked at the big high rise
building and her heart ached.

“Where to Miss?” The driver asked.

“To the Envy police station,” Cali said, and the driver
nodded his head and they drove off.

Cali looked out the window the whole drive as tears fell
down her face. She looked down at her hand and saw the
ring James gave her and she took a deep breath and wiped
her tears away.

Chapter 25

They pulled up to the Envy police station and Cali got out
of the car and grabbed her bag. She put her hat back on
her head, put her sunglasses on and she walked up the
steps and into the police station. No one recognized her.
Cali saw her sister Claudia through a glass mirror and she
waved. Cali walked right into the chief of polices’ office; he
was on the phone.

“Chief John Mutter I need to speak to Mr. Laurence Quinn,”
Cali demanded her voice was sharp and forceful.

“Who do you think you are coming in here demanding
orders?” Chief Mutter snapped at her as he stood up and
he hung up the phone.

“I have information about Veronica Burns and I believe
agent Quinn from the FBI is the person to speak to about
that case. Am I correct?” Cali asked putting her hands on
her hips with attitude.

“Who are you?” John asked looking at the very classy
women standing in front of him.
“Do you want the information or not?” Cali asked raising
her voice.

“Why don’t you just tell me what you know? I will give the
information to agent Quinn personally,” Chief Mutter said
looking at the woman.

“No, I am talking to agent Quinn or I am not taking at all
and trust me my information is crucial to this
investigation,” Cali responded. “I am the only person that
can help this case.”

“Come with me,” Chief Mutter hissed as he led the way into
an interrogation room. Cali followed him and sat down on
a chair. She crossed her legs and looked up at the chief.
She still had her hat and sunglasses on and he didn’t
know who she was. “I will get agent Quinn, but you might
have to wait a while.”

“That’s fine, I will wait.” Cali said crossing her arms.

The chief left the room and closed the door behind him.
Cali opened up her bag, pulled out her sketch book and
set it on the table. She looked through the life of Veronica
Burns. She shut the book when she heard the door open.
As the book closed she knew she was finally done with
Veronica Burns and she was going to find out who she
really was.
