Everyone drove off as Cali stood there on the front lawn.
She took a deep breath and James held her hand. That
house was such a beautiful nightmare. Cali slowly walked
up the steps of the house; flash backs were coming back to
her as tears started to fall down her face. She opened the
door to the house and she stepped inside. She was
shaking. It was all over for real, this was the last time she
would ever have to step foot in to that house.

“Can you wait here? I need to do this on my own,” Cali
said as she turned and looked at James who was standing
on the porch watching her.

“Take as much time as you need and I will be here waiting
for you when you come out,” James said in a comforting
way.

Cali walked into the living room and looked around at the
walls and at the fire place. She had goose bumps all over
body. She walked into the dining room and Cali looked
around and for a moment she saw herself as a little girl
crying at the kitchen table. The little girl looked up at her
with sad eyes; “Will my life always be this bad?”
Veronica’s ghost asked.

Cali was standing there in shock, was she going crazy?

“No it will get worse, and there will be times when you
want to die but what you need to remember is that nothing
that happens to you is your fault and when you stop
blaming yourself one day all this will go away and you
will be happy and free from all this pain,” Cali whispered,
as tears fell from her eyes. The little girl smiled and then
she disappeared.

Cali walked through the kitchen; it brought back so many
memories. She walked down the hallway and stood at the
bottom of the stairs. She was looking up at the dark
landing when she was flooded with memories. Cali’s legs
started to shake as she slowly took one step at a time,
gripping the railing. Cali got to the top of the stairs and
she looked down the hallway to the bathroom. She saw an
image of her father chasing her to the bathroom. She
could hear tears falling to the floor and she could hear the
screams of torture and fear. Cali gasped as she opened up
the door to Veronica’s bedroom. Her chest hurt and she
felt like she couldn’t breathe, but she had to let go of her
past and that was the only way. She looked around the
room and she walked to the window and looked outside to
the small little town. Cali saw that girl again crying on her
bed and she saw an image of a women standing over her.
It was her mother Katie, she was trying to comfort the little
girl but the little girl just lay on the bed crying.
The image of Katie looked over at Cali with tears in her
eyes. “I know I was evil but I loved her and I didn’t mean to
do this to her,” Katie whispered.

“This is your fault, you did do this to her,” Cali said
staring back at the ghost. “Why did you leave her if you
loved her so much?”

“I didn’t have a choice, I didn’t want to go; he made me
leave. He controlled everything. I know the things I did in
my life were horrible but I fell in love with a monster and
paid for it until the day he killed me,” the ghost of Katie
whispered.

“He really destroyed everything he touched,” Cali
breathed in sharp.

“Will she be ok or will he kill her too?” the ghost of Katie
asked.

“She is stronger than you were and she will one day break
free from him and she will be happy,” Cali whispered.

“I knew she was amazing from the first time I saw her
perfect face. I love you Veronica for what it’s worth, I
really love you,” the ghost of Katie said as she looked into
Cali’s eyes and then she disappeared.

Cali took a few deeps breath and she walked in her father’s
bedroom. The memories hit her like a ton of bricks and she
fell to her knees.
“No more you will not hurt me anymore. I am done with
you, good bye forever,” Cali cried and then she saw the
ghost of Harold Burns standing by the window with tears
in his eyes.

“I never knew how evil I was until I died and now I will
endure all the pain I put on others for the rest of eternity,”
the ghost whispered as he turned to face her. Cali looked
into his eyes and she started shaking, her whole body hurt
and she was paralyzed by her fear. She got up off her
knees and stood there on unsteady legs. She wanted to
scream and scream at him and tell him everything she was
feeling and every bad thing he did to her but she didn’t
need to say anything. As she was looking at him he
started to burn and flames came over his body and he
screamed out as the flames of the fire devoured him until
he disappeared.

Cali took a deep breath and she wiped her tears away.
“Good bye Veronica Burns. Rest in peace, I love you.”

Cali walked down the stairs and out the front door. She
closed the door tightly behind her and then she locked it.
She turned around and James was standing there looking
at her with his incredible loving eyes and his arms wide
open waiting for her.

He held out his hand for her and they walked down the
steps of the porch and got into his car.
“I love you Cali Quinn, I will always be here for you no
matter what,” James said as he held her hand and they
drove away.

Cali didn’t looked back, she didn’t want to. She was done
with that life and she was headed somewhere better and
she couldn’t be happier in that moment.
