Prologue
Muff
“Y
ou’d make a cute Santa,” Serenity grins, skipping along beside me.
I give her a foul look, to which her grin widens.
“Why do you all assume that because I’ve got red hair, I would make the best Santa? Jackson is the oldest - make him do it.”
“He’s too mean.”
I chuckle. “Is that what I need to be? Mean?
Serenity giggles, and hooks her arm through mine. “You don’t need to be mean, just your charming self...maybe if you get a bit fatter...”
I grin down at her. “Dream on, princess. This belly isn’t goin’ anywhere. The ladies love it, you know.”
“Hey, I thought it was all for Janine now?”
I chuckle softly. “Yeah, princess, it’s all for her, and trust me...she loves it.”
She flushes and looks away, and I know she’s thinking about the ménage I had with her and Jackson. It was a night I wouldn’t be forgetting any time soon, and, by the color in her cheeks, she wouldn’t either.
“If I recall, you loved it too...”
She smacks me on the arm. “Don’t make me regret it, Muff!”
I laugh and wrap an arm around her, pulling her close. “You’d never regret it!”
“No,” she sighs. “You’re probably right about that.”
“I don’t blame you, princess. I’m hard to get over.”
“You, hard to get over? Dream on buddy!”
I hear Jackson’s voice from behind us, and I grin, turning and hugging Serenity closer. “Don’t judge her Jack’s, she really can’t help the fact that my mouth is...”
“Careful, Muff,” Jackson scoffs, leaning forward and gripping Serenity by her shoulders, then pulling her to his side.
Serenity lets out a sweet-as-shit little giggle. “Now, now, you two, you know Jackson is my number one...”
“In real life,” I add in a teasing tone. “No one said anything about fantasies.”
Serenity laughs softly, and looks up at Jackson. “Are we almost ready to go?”
“We sure are, darlin’.”
“Let’s get this party started then!” I grin, slapping my hands together.
We’re heading up to the mountains for Christmas. After all the bullshit that went down recently with the clubs, we decided a Christmas away was exactly what we all needed. Snow, eggnog, one hell of a hot spa, and log cabins—sounds fuckin’ perfect to me. There aren’t many occasions where we all get to spend time away from the club just to enjoy our lives and our family. We’re going up alone for two nights, and then the kids will follow so we can all spend Christmas day together.
However, a group of bikers in cabins for a few days could prove to be...
Interesting.
Chapter 1
Ho’ Ho’ Ho’
Janine
“So, are you and Muff going to get your freak on the entire time we’re up there?” Addison asks, wiggling her eyebrows at me.
I smile, feeling my cheeks heat. “Well, that’s for me to know and...”
“Yeah yeah, me not to know.” She pouts.
“All that snow...I could do the old ‘Hold me, I’m frozen,’ trick.”
Addison giggles, and tosses a thick coat into her suitcase. “That’s a good one. I might try that. Cade has his cranky pants on - God knows, the man needs to get laid.”
“Who needs to get laid?” Ciara calls out, skipping into the room.
“Cade.” I chuckle.
“Oh, I think all of those angry bikers need to get laid.”
“I got laid this morning,” Serenity says, walking into the room, and wrapping her arm around my shoulder.
“Ew,” we all say, scrunching our noses.
“Well, y’all are whining about not getting laid, I figured I’d add some Christmas cheer in.”
“Are you all packed?” I ask her. “You know you can’t wear sexy lingerie up there, don’t you?”
She wiggles her brows at me. “I most certainly can...fireplace...warm biker...”
I frown. “I have a cold bed...”
They all laugh softly. “Let the man in your pants, and it won’t matter.”
I wave a hand, stepping away from Serenity and reaching into my suitcase to triple check I have my coat. “I just...he’s not pushing the issue...I know he’s being respectful, but damn, it’s getting hard to look at him and not jump his bones. I want to push it, but, God...”
“Push it for him, don’t be shy,” Ciara says, pulling on a pair of boots.
“What if he...doesn’t want to?”
They all give me horrified expressions.
“Are you freaking serious?” Addison says, throwing her hair up and fastening it with a clip. “The man strips you down and fucks you with his eyes every time you’re in the same room.”
I bite my lip. Does he? Muff and I have been going steady for a few months now, but we haven’t had sex. I wasn’t sure if it was me, or him, or if we were just not as serious as I would hope. I don’t really want to consider that, because he is my little ray of sunshine at the end of a very dark tunnel. I’ve been basically left alone, with debts to clean up and a little girl asking about her daddy. It hasn’t been easy.
“He cares, J...” Ciara says, her voice going soft. “Trust us.”
I lift my head, smiling. “I know; it’s okay. I’m sure this weekend will be the perfect opportunity for us to...”
“Fuck,” Addison says, with a sly grin.
“Make sweet, sweet love,” Ciara giggles.
“Do the horizontal dance of loooove,” Serenity adds.
I burst out into a fit of giggles. “Stop it!”
“Yo, woman!”
We all turn to see Spike appear in the doorway with Cade. Spike has his son in his arms, upside-down. I smile; the two of them together are totally adorable. Little Danny adores his daddy.
“Spike!” Ciara laughs. “Pretty sure you have our son up the wrong way.”
Spike grins at her. “Baby, he likes it better this way.”
She rolls her eyes and walks over, gripping her son and lifting him from Spike’s arms. “Your daddy is a rebel!”
“Don’t listen to her, little buddy.” Cade grins. “She tells lies.”
Ciara slaps Cade’s shoulder, and follows Spike out of the room. Addison walks over, hand resting on her little round belly, and she smiles up at Cade. “You all packed?”
He grunts. “Fuckin’ clothes, so many of the fuckin’ things. Who needs them?”
Addison leans in close. “You sure won’t.”
A grin appears on Cade’s face, and he wraps her in his arms, tugging her from the room. I beam, and turn to Serenity. “How’s Ava?”
“She’s being a little clingy to Jackson at the moment, but she’ll be okay with your mom for the weekend.”
“Is Danny going to spend time with Ciara’s parents?”
Serenity shrugs. “I think so. I’m not entirely sure what the go is there.”
“I think there were huge issues there over the death of her sister until Danny was born. Apparently it softened them, and he spends a bit of time with them now.”
“I know he spends time with them,” she says. “I just don’t know the full story.”
“I can’t believe we get to be kid-free,” I add, changing the subject. It’s a bit of a touchy one that I’m not entirely sure of.
“I owe your mom big time for this.” She sighs. “Jackson and I have been dying for some time together.”
I smile at her, and lean down, sitting on my suitcase so I can do it up.
“Jesus, woman, what’s in there? Ebony?”
I laugh. “No, she’d be in Muff’s suitcase.”
“She sure does like him, huh?”
I beam and nod. “She does. I love seeing them together.”
“You ladies ready to rumble?”
I hear the sexy, smooth voice that has my heart thudding wildly, and I turn to see Muff standing at the door. The moment I lay my eyes on him, my stomach does those stupid little somersaults that don’t seem to fade, even after all the time we spend together. I slowly let my eyes move up until I’m meeting his. He has these beautiful blue eyes that suck you in, and don’t let you go. His hair is dark red and long, flowing around his shoulders. He’s a mass of colorful tattoos. They’re up his arms, all over his chest and back. He’s divine.
“I’m ready,” I squeak, and then inwardly curse for sounding like a desperate teenage girl about to lose her virginity.
Muff grins, and walks in, catching me in his arms and pulling me close. My breath hitches as I peer up at him, mesmerized by his masculine beauty. He lifts his hand and runs a thumb over my bottom lip.
“I hope you’re ready.”
“Ew, Muff!” Serenity grumbles, zipping up her case.
“Don’t pretend you don’t love it, princess.” He grins, lifting his head.
I know Serenity slept with Muff and Jackson at the same time, and surprisingly, I’m okay with it. I won’t lie and say I haven’t wondered why he slept with her yet hasn’t made any moves on me, but the overall fact that it happened doesn’t bother me.
Well, I don’t think it does anyway. I love my friend, and I wasn’t in the picture when it happened. I don’t blame her for being curious; both of the guys are gorgeous. I wouldn’t have minded being squished between them.
“Dream on, buddy,” Serenity says, rolling her eyes.
Muff chuckles, and looks back down at me. “I’ll be out front. Come when you’re ready,” he murmurs, and then leans down to my ear. “And baby, don’t wear any panties.”
I gape as he grins at me once more, and then walks out, taking my suitcase with him. I turn to Serenity, and she’s practically bouncing on the spot. Before I know it, she begins doing a little dance. “J is going to get laid, J is going to get laid!”
“Stop it!” I giggle, rushing over and leaping into her arms.
It’s nice to feel young again, even if it is just for a moment. I’ve lived such a tough life, working for Hogan, and marrying that pig of a man. For the first time, I’m able to enjoy the life I have been given, and it feels damn good.
“Mommy!” Ebony cries, running into the room. “Nanny is here.”
“Okay, baby.” I smile, leaning down and scooping her into my arms.
Ebony is my life. Without her I would have never continued to fight the way I do now. She might have part of her father in her, but she’s an angel to me. She always will be my reason for being.
“I’ll get Ava,” Serenity says, turning and rushing from the room.
I carry Eb downstairs and see my mother waiting in the living room. When she sees me, she smiles. I’ve been close to my mother most of my life, and while she didn’t agree with my marriage, she tried hard to support me as much as she could, for Ebony’s sake. I am almost sure, however, that she’s not sad to see that pig dead.
I greet her with a kiss to her cheek, and she takes Eb from my arms, smothering her cheek with kisses.
“How are you, my little puppet?” She smiles, tugging Ebony’s thick locks.
“I’m good Nanna. Are we going to bake while Mommy is away?”
“Oh, we sure are.”
“How are you, Mom?” I beam, taking her in.
“I’m well, sweetheart, and you?”
“I’m good, we’re getting there.”
She leans in closer. “Are you dealing with all the debts okay?”
I nod. “I’m trying not to think about it right now, but yes, I’m getting there.”
“If you need the money...”
It’s sweet of her, and I know if I said the word she’d find it for me. The thing is, she doesn’t have a lot of money, and I’d never forgive myself if I took it from her.
“I’m okay, Mom, I promise.”
“I love you, Jay- bear,” she says, hugging me close and pressing a kiss to my forehead.
“Come on, Nanna!” Ebony cries. “Let’s go!”
Serenity brings Ava down, and after a lot of tearful farewells, they leave. Danny is gone now, too, and so, for the first time in months, we’re all child-free.
We’ve decided to take all the trucks up for the trip, being that the snow is beginning to thicken and we can’t risk getting caught in it with the bikes. We’ve hired four cabins, one for each couple. I can’t wait—although the butterflies fluttering around in my stomach at the thought of spending all that time alone with Muff are sending me over the edge.
