As she walked through the lobby, she paused for a moment staring at the bluebonnets, which had calmed her nerves the day before. She wondered briefly about who had chosen them and why, but as she rode the lift up to the very top floor those thoughts were pushed out, as she prepared herself for what was up ahead.
As the doors of the lift opened up and revealed the top floor, Kylie found her breath caught in her throat. The walls were floor to ceiling windows in which you could look out over the entire city. It was a bright Summer day and although the towering buildings had made the streets she had walked earlier that morning shaded, the whole floor was basked in the warm sunshine that poured through, undisturbed and unchallenged by anything. She walked out of the lift and into the large room that opened up in front of her.
"You must be Kylie?" A woman's voice called out as she walked further into the office floor.
"Yes." Kylie said, searching the room and finally finding the woman to whom the voice belonged to.
She was a petite and pretty blonde but came off as approachable instantaneously. She smiled as Kylie's eyes met hers and indicated for Kylie to come over to her.
"I'm Rachel." She said extending her hand.
Kylie shook it heeling grateful that Rachel seemed much friendlier than Sasha who had interviewed her the previous day.
"Will I be working with you?" Kylie asked following Rachel over to her desk.
"You will. There's another woman too, Sasha, I think she interviewed you?" Rachel said, as she shuffled some papers around.
"Yes, I met her yesterday" Kylie nodded.
"Well you probably won't see her around very often, she mainly handles staffing." Rachel said, as though she could read Kylie's mind about Sasha.
"Do we not all have the same job?" Kylie asked, curious as to why one person, could need three personal assistants.
"No, that's why he has three of us, Sasha is in charge of staffing and public relations, I'm in charge of appointments and you, your job is to run his errands and ensure that everything he needs gets to him efficiently." She said, as she found the papers she had been looking for and passed them to Kylie.
Kylie took them and read what was written down. It was a list of jobs that needed to be done, dry cleaning, lunch instructions and other such errands.
"So I'm his errand girl?" Kylie asked, but not in an ungrateful way.
"Yes, I suppose that's what you are." She smiled as she spoke.
After Kylie had gone through the entire list, she created an order to the things she had to do and got to it. She knew that Christopher would be back in the office at lunchtime, and that was when she would meet him for the first time to deliver him his lunch.
The morning's tasks took longer than usual as she found herself lost on almost every errand. Kylie managed to pick up the Sushi she had called ahead and ordered, and get back to the office in time though.
She could feel her nerves picking up again, as she approached the office. Rachel smiled at her as she walked passed and wished her luck. This only made Kylie more nervous though, as she realised that this would be his first impression of her and she needed to make it a good one. She got to the door and knocked twice, softly against the expensive wood.
"Come in." A deep, husky voice carried through. Kylie took a deep breath and opened the doors.
"Hi, I'm Ky..." Kylie started but couldn't finish, as her eyes fell on the familiar looking man sitting behind the desk.
He looked up, as her sentence faltered and his piercing blue eyes met hers from across the room. Kylie could feel her pulse in her ears, as she stood in shock. He was handsome, with a defined jawline and glowing golden skin, she could tell even though he was sitting down that he was tall, toned and muscular, but that wasn't what made her words get caught in her throat.
She knew this man, he was older and had a different look to his eyes than the last time she had seen him, but she knew him, it was Noah.
"Can I help you?" He said looking annoyed at the interruption followed by the lack of explanation for it.
"Ah...Sorry...I'm your new assistant, Kylie." She stammered, realising that he clearly didn't recognise her.
"Okay?" Christopher half questioned, as though he couldn't understand as to why he would need to know her name.
She watched as his eyes roamed around her body before freezing for a moment on her generous chest, she noticed a small twitch on his upper lip.
"I've brought you, your lunch Mr Matthews." Kylie said, trying to pull back some professionalism.
"Leave it on my desk." He said, dropping his eyes back to his monitor. Kylie walked over and placed the white paper bag on his desk.
"Mr Matthews?" Kylie said, interrupting him from his work again.
"What?" He said, looking frustrated by the continued conversation.
The annoyance in his voice put Kylie on edge and she realised that she had better leave.
"Have a good day." She said quickly, flashing a smile at him.

"You know the billionaire!?" Felix exclaimed, looking as though he couldn't quite believe what Kylie had just told him.
"We grew up together." Kylie said. Her first day at work had finished and she had told Felix everything, as soon as she had gotten home.
"But he doesn't remember you?" Felix said with his eyebrow arching.
"No.." Kylie said, trying to hide the disappointment in her voice, but Felix knew her too well to be fooled.
"Don't be down sweetie, maybe you just look different to what you did, back then." Felix said, trying to excuse the idea that he had simply just forgotten her.
"Well he looked different, bigger, more handsome...But I still remembered him! I could never forget him" Kylie said in a manner of fact, type of way.
"Sure you did, but weren't you like, you know, in love with him?" Felix said carefully, as to not hurt her feelings.
"But we were best friends Felix, we grew up together, we saw each other every single day for years." She said not even bothering to mask the pain in her voice this time.
"Well, why didn't you remind him?" Felix asked curiously.
He knew that Noah had meant a lot to her, she had told him about him long before that day. He couldn't understand why, after all these years; she hadn't just told him who she was.
"Because." Kylie said, not really knowing what the answer was.
"Because?" Felix pushed, not accepting the half assed answer that she had given him.
"Well, he's changed his name, he never tried to get back in touch, I just figured, he doesn't want to know." Kylie said. Felix nodded his head.
"I understand sweetie." He said after a moment.
Kylie groaned and threw herself back onto her bed. In all the times she had dreamed of coming to New York, she had never once considered the possibility of running into Noah, or Christopher, or whatever his name was.
"Do you think I should quit?" She asked Felix. He shook his head.
"No! This is your stepping stone girl, don't you dare give up, just because some dude from your past has shown up!" He told her.
"You're right." She said, nodding her head slowly.
"I always am." Felix said, grinning at her.
Kylie rolled her eyes, which was something she often did, when talking to Felix.
"Are you planning on telling him who you are?" Felix asked.
"Honestly, I don't know" Kylie said.
She was trying to make sense of her thoughts. They were racing around in her head, faster than she could process them and it was making her almost feel dizzy. She closed her eyes and put her hand over them.
"Don't be so melodramatic." Felix said watching her.
"Shut up!" She shot back playfully throwing a pillow at him.
As night fell, Kylie tried to sleep early, the problem was the thoughts which had been racing in her head still hadn't slowed down.
She wondered to herself whether she should tell him. Whether she should just burst into his office and demand that he remembered her. She couldn't shake the feeling though it was a bad idea though. He clearly didn't want to be remembered as Noah and surely her walking in there and calling him out, would only land her jobless and broken hearted.
Kylie wasn't sure when she had fallen asleep, but as her alarm buzzed beside her head, she awoke with a start. Her dreams had been filled with Noah as she opened her eyes, all the problems that had arisen the day before, came shooting back into the forefront of her mind.
She tried to push the thoughts aside, as she got ready, but they fought back and only got louder. How could she have loved him all these years and he didn't even remember her face?
Before she had left work the day before, Rachel had given her a list of things she was to do that day, the first of which was collecting Christopher's breakfast and delivering it to the office.
As Kylie carried the brown bag and latte into the lift, she could feel her heart racing. She was still unsure about what she should do and the day had come too quickly for her liking. As she walked into the open plan office, she greeted at Rachel who was already behind her desk.
"Good Morning Rachel." Kylie said, trying to sound calm and collected.
"Hi." Rachel said, without looking away from her computer screen.
When she had reached Christopher's office doors, she knocked, twice softly.
"Come in." His voice called out. Kylie pushed open the door and walked in.
"Good morning Mr Matthews." She said as she placed the brown bag and latte on his desk. He didn't look up to acknowledge her. "I've brought you your breakfast." She continued, after he hadn't replied to her good morning.
"Yes, Louise, was it?" He finally said looking up at her.
"It's Kylie." She replied, a little more curtly than she had intended to.
"Right, Kylie." He said, ignoring the sharp tone she had just used.
Kylie wasn't sure as to what to do next. She wanted to stay in the room with him, to make him remember her, without her having to tell him who she was, but she didn't know how.
"The flowers in the lobby are beautiful." She finally said, deciding that might help him remember, as it had her on the day she had come in for her interview. He looked up, in surprise, but Kylie couldn't tell whether it was surprise over her mentioning the flowers, or surprise over her still being there.
"Yes, they're Bluebonnets." He said with a sigh, giving no further explanation.
"Do they grow around here?" Kylie asked coyly, pushing him into a response, without giving away her intentions.
"No, they're native to Texas." He said flatly.
"Oh, I'm originally from Texas." Kylie said, grasping the moment with both hands.
Christopher looked at her for a moment, letting his eyes meet hers. For a second, Kylie thought he might be remembering her, there was a look in his eye which told her he was considering something.
"Look Kylie, I'm kind of busy, you know with a multi billion dollar company to run and all, can I help you with something?" He said with a sarcastic under tone.
Kylie felt a wave of disappointment accompanied with embarrassment wash over her.
"No, sorry to have disturbed you." She said quickly and retreated out of the office.

Kylie had been working as Christopher's assistant for almost a month and he still hadn't remembered who she was. With each day that passed, Kylie could feel her frustration growing. She had dropped enough hints, spoken about Texas enough times and caught his eye far too many times for him to have not got it by now.
"You should just tell him." Felix said one day, after Kylie had been venting her frustrations again to him, for the hundredth time that week.
